Wenger makes excuses for Arshavin’s performance
Andrei Arshavin was given a rare start by Arsene Wenger in this weeks game against Fulham, but as usual he seemed distracted and uninterested. The little Russian was pinpointed by most Arsenal fans as the biggest flop of the match, but Wenger thinks that he should be excused because he hasn’t played for a while.
“I believe it is difficult for a player when he doesn’t play regularly to be absolutely exceptional,” Wenger said.
“I don’t think he had a bad game but I think he suffered a little bit from the fact we were not as sharp as we might have been.
“Your confidence is not at the top as well when you don’t play for one month. You need to play regularly.
“He will come back. He works hard in training and has a good attitude so we just have to keep him tight.”
But Wenger had some praise for his two late substitutes, Abou Diaby and Marouane Chamakh, both of who have been out of action for a long while, but listen to the difference in Wenger’s opinion of them.
He said: “Diaby and Chamakh were fresh and hungry. Hopefully in the coming weeks they will show that.”
So what was Arshavin then? Fresh and unhungry?

This man Wenger should think before saying such ludicrous things. Two players did ok because they were hungry and fresh and the other one didn’t because he was fresh and “unhungry” as he ate a large chunk of Pizza right before the game! Ridiculous!
Manager should stop mollycoddling players who need a kick on their ars to raise their game.

I think Arshavin is turning out to be a one season player.
Get him out whiles teams still want him.
I’ve been one who’s always kept faith with him in the hope that he’ll bring out another “liverpool”.
I don’t think that’s ever gonna be. Let’s just cut our losses and wish him well.
Top Gooner!. Agree or not?:

He’s either bad because he’s knackered or bad because he’s too fresh. If that were true how would any player ever break into the first team with a good performance, according to Wenger it would be impossible.

What a load of crap. Diaby came on an he was brilliant. No excuse for Arse shavings…he needs to be sold. His lack of enthusiasm has been tolerated for far too long. Apparently Anzi offered 25m for him? Sell him plz and buy a player who feels like running after the ball.

Arshavin is a good player. He was not the worst on the pitch vs Fulham. There is still potential in him and some ppl need to stop speaking out of their cynic minds.

And yes, you cant expect to beanch him for most of the time and then score 4 goals when he’s in. On the other side he can put some pore effort in the defensive side, but overall what makes his gime is the amount of time he spends on the pitch…
This is at least how I see things….by putting him down he wont get any better.

I think he’s a super talented player. Arshavin has NEVER been a player that will round around, tracking back and closing people down. I don’t understand why we expect him to do it now. Thats not his game or his best position. Play him in Cesc position and give him freedom to go forward. Thats what he’s good doing. His performance against liverpool is often brought up. If you look at the game, he enjoyed more freedom. Most (i think 3/4) he scored when he was in the box in a central position, not stuck out wide.

I think Arshavin has just lost to much ability as he has aged to keep up with the rigours of the champions league. Let him move on. Bring in a Hazard, a Gotze maybe a striker. Someone who can make a regular difference.

Arshavin is a mid fielder, period.he has no bussiness trying wing or attack.

That’s Arsene Wenger for you, he always get behind his players’ back. Remember some players who had been playing poorly and suddenly got “injured” and at the end of the season got sold.

Not sure if you guys saw the game but although Arshavin wasn’t exactly amazing I think the biggest flop was Ramsey. I love the kid but he just had a horrible game. He missed 2-3 great chances and gave the ball away more to Fulham than any Arsenal teammate. Also why in the world did we sub Chamakh on? I like him too but why not give Park Chu Young the game time. It doesn’t appear that Chamakh is going to be playing for us in the future so why not give the game time to someone who is going to use it.
