Wenger mustn’t ignore the need for new signings in January
Despite all the talk about the potential effect of the loss of van Persie or other players like Song and Walcott to injury (to Arsenal’s ambitions), Arsene Wenger has still ruled out signing players to back up the key men in the January transfer window.
“At the moment, I do nothing in January,” he said. “I have a big squad, but if you knock at my door and say ‘I have a fantastic player for you’, I will not turn it down.
“If we have no injuries, we should get away with it because we have Oxlade-Chamberlain, who can play there, Park, Arshavin and Van Persie. So we still have offensive players, but we could be a bit short if we have an injury.”
As all Arsenal fans will tell you, it is highly unlikely that Oxlade-Chamberlain can play competently in the striker role for Arsenal. Arshavin has also failed to live up to expectations recently and had shown in the 2009/10 season that he does not play the striking role well enough at least at that time. If an injury is to be sustained by van Persie, that leaves Park Chu-Young the only option left since Chamakh leaves for the African Cup of Nations at that period.
Is this not another potential downfall for Arsenal, though? With several strikers available to come to the club by Wenger and Arsenal’s transfer funds, surely the Frenchman is making a mistake by not deciding to sign a few more backup players? Even with the “1st team” playing at the moment, it seems that there is no real “creative spark”. What happens if the players like Hazard and Gotze and Podolski do not arrive?
I think it would be a grave error of judgment by Wenger to not spend again. After reviving the club from its dismal start to the season, should he not go a step earlier to sign the players needed to finish the season well?

We have a big squad, but a fraction are still ineffective!
The likes of squillaci, chamackh, arshavin are still not performing up to scratch!
Gotze is needed, at the moment we have the money, we still need to fill the fabregas nasri gap. With the african nations cup coming and the loss of chamakh and gervinho, he(gotze) will provide fresh cover as well as the inevetable injury or two.
Gotze, ramsey and wilshere will rule the premier league midfield for the coming 10 years and longer!
30 million pounds is an excellent investment, he should definately look to shore up the defence aswell other players wenger should consider in january are the likes of pjanic, damiao, vertonghen, santon, sakho, giroud,hazard etc..
Prepare for either another frustating window or one of wenger splashing..

I believe this is typical Wenger tactics in showing disinterest in signing this transfer window. This ensures the value of our targeted players aren’t inflated.It’s common negotiation strategy not to show the potential seller how much you really want something.
The heat’s on for Wenger to finish top 4 and we all know that will be difficult this year. A striker will be bought to rest RVP or used as an extra injury substitute. With that in mind we all know an attacking midfielder would add more spark in forward movements too.
There’ll most likely be business in ridding players too. Almunia, Bendtner, Denilson, Arshavin, Rosicky all possible candidates. Overall I believe this coming transfer window might be a busy one too.

Wenger is either playing his cards close to his chest, or he is about to make the same mistake he did before the last transfer window. Sure we are in a much better situation squad wise, BUT if RvP gets injured or starts to lose form (heaven forbid), who will step up to the plate and score like he is scoring atm? Park? Chamakh? Don’t kid me. Wenger needs to sign another striker, that is a must. Please Wenger, after putting us in relegation tier and scaring us half to death, then magically turning things around, we are smiling now, our team looks confident. One world class signing, that is all we ask.

If @ all Wenger did not sign any players in d January transfer, Arsenal will face a tough challenge. Also, d Arsenal set back in d second Half of d season, is d Lack of additional players during d January transfer and he Wenger must not Ignore d signing of players in d January transfer window.

I don’t agree with that at all we still need a more dangerous sticker to pattern with RVP or even step up in case of injuries to the like of RVP and chamak. that’s just bull-sheet speech we as arsenal fans never want to hear. remember what happen at the start of the EPL. You never want buy in new players until we were humiliated by man u, that when your eyes where opened so at that moment u were a panic buyer. I though u have learn a lesson OR you’re not VISIONED
in achieving silverware for arsenal. Do it as you said and you lose fans cause our team is strong enough to win silverware though maybe it can.

If he buys one that will be good i believe we are only a creative mid and a top notch second striker to compete for the league but he may have someone in mind who is better that the 2 lets us not make the mostake liverpool did with carolll 35 million they could have bought demba ba and n zogbia and it wouldnt have come to half they spent on caroll i still think wenger as a wildcard in his locker for any unknown who was nasri chambain fabregas etc the lists goes on and on but if he says something now a million teams will jump out but if we make good transfers in jan we can go for champions league or fa cup no doubt

Am i the only one that thinks sammy ameobi would be much better than bale is. That boy needs to be snapped up by the arsenal asap. Also, for january, podolsky is the only realistic option as he can cover both chamakh and gervinhos positions. Sorry mates, no gotze any time soon. A word of advice to hazzard, madrid will kill your carrier. I cant even see him play the way madrid are playing atm let alone benching the likes of cr7, di maria, oezil and co. A word is enough for the wise. By the way, whatever happened to m’villa?

I doubt Lille or Dortmund will sell their star players in january – reluctantly they may let them go in the summer however and for nothing less then 30 million +
If we need someone to give us a creative spark in january, with wilshere not back?, I would go for Granero and save the transfer assault for the summer where arshavin, rosicky, squilachi, chamakh and denilson can be off loaded to sure up funds to make moves hazard and goetze*
I also hope we do not stick with chamakh … he is just not a goal scorer – Maybe anelka till the end of the season could do a job

AW was burnt by the old trafford disaster and will not want to go down that road again. My view is that 1) he does not want to raise the cost of his potential targets and 2) he wants to maintain some calm within the team. Our team is still being rebuilt and he has to avoid unsettling players. AW knows he has to buy a striker. Park is taking long to settle, Chamakh is not firing at the the moment and Arshavin seems to have reached his sell-by date. I think we need to reinforce our attacking options but remember that Wilshere will be back in january.

Am i missing something? Who would you guys drop from the midfield for gotze? I also think that another striker is a must in january, but i am certain chelsea will feel need to spend some money in january with drogba clearly on his way out, wenger will not want a repeat of the mata situation again. I think Arshavin,denilson and bendtner will all be offloaded. We have to be aware that most of the quality players out there will be cup tied, so most of the names above wont be best buys for wenger.

I believe Buying Mario Gotze in the january transfer window will bring a positive change to Arsenal squared than living chamakh at the emirate. Player like podolski, venthogen and M’villa are also good, but i prefer seeing Gotze at the emirate as the first sinning in january. Gotze, Arteta, Wilsher, Ramsey and Song will form a solid midfieder for Arsenal and if player like Chamakh, squallaci, diaby and arshavin are sell, this will give room for experience and better player at the emirate, so please go for Gotze. Arsene Wenger is playing the waiting game. I reckon he has shortlist targets (eg. Gotze) but will want to sell some of our backup players first before consider buying. Thats just him.
I believe he’ll buy a creative attacking mid, that could play both wings and center (TopList – Gotze). But will depend on Wilshere’s recovery and how well Ryo has adapted to EPL.
In terms of defensive players, I don’t think Wenger will purchase any since we have sufficient cover (RB – Sagna, Jenkinson, Koscielny/ LB – Santos, Gibbs, Vermaelen). But a few long term injuries will force Wenger to consider.
Now the strikers, I believe Wenger will give Walcott a chance to play striker position and rotate with van Persie, which leaves OX to play RW with Rosicky and Benayoun as backups. So no strikers needed unless otherwise.
Arsene Wenger’s approach is one of conservative and team balance.
