Wenger – No move for Vieira, he is not a striker!
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has again emphasised his need for a striker as injuries have decimated his front line.
With Van Persie, Nicolas Bendtner and Eduardo all out injured for Saturday’s game against Stoke, he then lost Thomas Rosicky to a groin strain, as well as minor injuries to Gallas, Traore and Arshavin.
Wenger said: “We pick up more injuries than the other big teams, that is true,” Wenger said. “You cannot say there is not a reason for it but we have not found it yet.
“It’s the worst season for injuries for us. And they are all in the same area – in the offensive side. Last year it was in the defensive side.”
He explained the problems with Eduardo and Thomas Rosicky as the lack of regular football over the last couple of years: “He’s devastated and I am as well,” Wenger said of Rosicky. “It’s a vicious circle when you have been out for a long time. Eduardo had not played for 18 months, Tomas has not played for 18 months,”
“When you come back, one or two games, your body has to get used to producing the energy levels again and it’s difficult. Nobody masters that.”
After rubbishing the rumours about Ruud Van Nistelrooy coming to the Emirates, he was then asked about whether he would take the Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira back in January. He replied: “Vieira is not a striker,”
“I don’t think we suffered in midfield on Saturday and we have Abou Diaby who can come back next week.”
“I don’t believe we are especially short there, but we are up front.”

shame. i think patrick could do a massive job for us.
and it will be all the more galling if (as the papers suggest) the barrow boy or chelski snap him up in january.

Viera could EASILY do the Denilson role,can tackle,pass,shoot,header and WON’T get pushed off the ball easily much BETTER THAN Denilson.
Wambam, Silvestre was AVAILABLE cheaply. Wenger is s sucker for a good deal.
