Wenger not worried about facing shareholders questions

Posted on October 23, 2011 by admin

As usual the yearly Arsenal shareholders meeting comes around, and there have talks of mass protests after Arsenal’s disastrous start to the season, but now the Gunners have started to string some wins together, Arsene Wenger is not worried about facing the (usually) tough audience on Thursday.

He said: “I do not meet with the shareholders expecting anything good or bad or fantastic. I do my best for the club and then I can accept the judgement of everybody with a clear conscience.

“What happened in the last few months is that Arsenal qualified for the Champions League for the 14th consecutive time.

“We’re respected all over the world and are one of the few clubs who live with a really healthy financial situation when the whole world is bankrupt.

“There’s nothing to be ashamed of.

“We have not done well enough. I accept that. But we were very close to an exceptional season last year.

“Mathematically, we can still qualify for the Champions League for a 15th time.

“But we have to be realistic and first come back to a much stronger position.

“I believe the team’s getting stronger – so let’s focus on that, be humble and look back at the end of the season with no regrets.”

Do you think Arsenal fans will be appeased by the run of recent results, especially if they beat Stoke today?

Big game today. Mert’s and szczesny are gonna have to control our 6yard box in the air. We seem to be conceding a goal a game. So Hopefully we can score a couple and wrap the points up.

You have to take into account that there are less shareholders now than at any time in our history of being a plc. the major shareholder is kroenke and he has seen his stock rise considerably. he bought most of his shares at around 8k and knows he could sell them for around 14k so why would he be giving wenger a hard time. usmanov is the shareholder who would have the most to gripe about but he wont complain too much as he seeks a place on the board. that leaves around 3% shareholders of whom bought their shares most likely at less than 3k and could sell today to usmanov at around 14k so why would they give wenger a hard time?

    Are you kidding us?
He sells the clubs best players and makes the shareholders a fortune and only spends peanuts on second rate squad players to shut the fans up.
He is making them even richer so it will just be a nice little tea party.
The only request he might get is to qualify for Europe so he can make them some more cash.
What they should be asking him is to cut his 20 million a year salary until he wins something.
I mean if we have a salary policy then the manager should lead by example.

    * compete for fourth place to get profit

reddb, well the silly Nina and Danny would happy to enjoy they money left over by grand parents but they couldn’t see the potential of arsenal. If they keep it and sell it later for just 1~2 years they have double their pocket money. Who to blame, sure the traitor Nina and Danny by inviting the greedy shareholder

Wenger has a lot to answer… A total mess for the last 6 years…
Yes we have a “healthy” financial situation, but it does not win us the league, the CL or even one of those “small” cups…!!!

So what’s the positives?? The finance? If we are in it for the finance, we are already league and CL champion… Other than that we suck tremendously.

  9. Big Gun says:

We have played well of late, and that is simply because the PLAYERS have done so. They have given their all and us fans have noticed. We must also remember though that probably the only tough team we have beaten was Stoke. We have Chelsea Saturday so the proof will be in the pudding. No good beating the weaker teams when we cannot beat the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, United etc. We need to be able to compete with the top teams to win trophies.

Arsene still has much to answer for concerning the defensive problem we have had since 3 seasons ago and only now are things starting to look better after ending up in the relegation zone. The last minute ‘rush’ buys in the last transfer window was a major concern. The millions we made after selling Clichy, Fabregas, Nasri, Eboue, Bendtner and many others, and nothing really to show for it except the Ox and one or two other promising players which will only benefit us in a few seasons from now. (We need results NOW.) The continual lies and contradictory statements from AW and the board about the wage structure, which players Arsenal want to sell and keep etc etc.

If AW had done his job properly (bolstered the defense) and perhaps the board allocating more funds to buying the much needed players, we would have won something last season and wouldn’t be looking at another trophy less season again.

It’s great for the shareholders and board members Arsenal is in a great financial position. Fantastic, so why are they skimping when buying players? It makes sense to think that a team in a solid financial position would able to afford world class players? Yet we keep buying youngsters which the majority become great players, and at their peak get sold for millions and we are back in the same situation. Other teams in debt still somehow manage to fork out on world class players and it has helped tremendously (Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, City)

So I think the shareholders and AW should be grilled to a crisp as to why things so obviously have not been done properly. Six seasons without a trophy is too long for Arsenal. The fans know why and we want to know what hell is going to be done about it.
