Wenger – One more defender coming in……
Arsene Wenger has finally admitted that he intends to buy “one more defender”, but he failed to mention if it would be a replacement for Gael Clichy at left-back or another central defender to give competition to Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Johan Djourou.
Wenger said: “We will have to find one more defender. I can promise we work very hard on it.
“Around Europe you will see little movement as clubs who are selling hold out as long as they can. It will speed up in August.”
When specifically asked if it was true that Arsenal had made a bid for Everton’s Phil Jagielka, Wenger replied: “I do not want to do to clubs what some clubs do to us.”
If another central defender comes in (Samba please!) will this mean that Squillaci will become an outcast in the mould of Mikael Silvestre? Or could Wenger send him out on loan? (Please!)

Tired of these cock stories..it’s not that he is doing a favor to Arsenal to get one more defender…I might not be the Manager of Arsenal & might not possess the basic credentials for the same, yet most would agree that we need 2 at the back…one strong & reputed CB & one LB … Sorry, don’t think Gibbs can replace Clichy yet..he is too injury-prone … that fact alomne requires us to have a cover. Trarore is pathetic to say the least… And I don’t see Vermelean playing in LB unless it’s an emergency situation….

Trarore is a player that I like, but he is no starter yet.. we need Baines! but would prefer Cahill as a CB and Verma on the left.. Perfect…

guys, it’s not trarore but Traoré at first, then, he did a good season with Juventus, maybe not ready yet to step up with the first team but could become a valuable player at least a good replacement, however I agree for Baines.

You lot make me laugh. I call you media sheep. Just because someone mentioned Baines and the media latched on to it, now you all think he is the best LB for Arsenal.
You ignore the fact that Baines isn’t that strong defensively, certainly not more so than Traore or Gibbs. He isn’t good in the air, which doesn’t address another problem and his main skill that makes him such a good attacking LB is his crossing which is as useful to Arsenal as a chocolate teapot.

This is perfect!!! one more GOOD CB (not samba) Kyle bartley Coming up Vermealen to LB, if we bought an established LB like baines or enrique Gibbs will never get the play time to develop, this way Verm can Switch to CB if needed and Gibbs can cover.

I doubt he would go for another youth player or younger if he tried for jagielka, I reckon they will go after samba seeing as though we only need to add 2 more million to get samba who wants to play for arsenal and is old, fits the bill if you ask me

Wenger is and has not been thinking straight for some time. If he really thinks with one more defender he can seriously compete for trophies, he is living in a dream world. He is about to loose 2 major players, Cesc and Nasri. He has lost Clichy and has not been replaced, thinking that Gibbs will replace. Maybe Wenger needs to see his injury record. He needs to seriously needs to spend some serious money in bringing some experienced players who can take Arsenal to the next level. He needs to buy both Samba and Cahill. Replacement for Cesc and Nasri will need to be bought. He also needs to buy an established LB and invest in players like Lukaku, Hazard, Chamberland. Yes initial investment is big but coming seasons he does not need to spend as much. For so many years Wenger has neglected to invest in the team and thus we are in this position. He has bought some waste of space players that has not done anything to enhance the team. If he cannot spend the money, I think he should resign. It is hard to say it but that is the reality.

Is this the same Wenger that said the same statement a month ago except then he said the month when things would pick up is July?
Haha at the fans trying to defend him. He treats everyone as though they are stupid. His own players are now wanting to leave.

The sad thing is that Wenger is such an amazing coach that not even with much effort or spending he could easily have turned this squad around. Instead he had his head in the clouds.

I cant believe Wenger is taking so long to sign Samba, he’s the perfect man for the job: A tower of strength, a man who will command the youngsters on the pitch (which could result in less unlikely screw-ups), a quality cb (who was actually 1 of 2 best centre backs of the 10/11 season along with vidic) and possibly a new captain if cesc leaves. All this for roughly £15m? Doesnt take long to make this kind of a decision..

My opinion on wenger signings…
1. Gervinho= He is superb, he scored 2 goals in just 15 minutes in his first debut with Arsenal at Cologne. Totally reached the headlines and has proved that he still has his scoring touch from Lille. Don’t know how Wengers gonna fit him in the XI with Walcott and Van Persie looking superb.
2. Carl Jenkinson= Seriously, i never thought that this guy would be this good. He proved himself in the 4-0 win over Malaysia in their first Asia Tour match. His quick, accurate, and plays like a midfielder.
3. Ryo Myaichi(earlier)= Best signing yet as a youngster for Arsenal this year. His a 17-year old Japanese man who plays at the left and has yet to prove very much next season. He is the Nasri/Cesc Combo.
Well, all i want to say is that Arsenal cannot win next season, but will win soon. I believe in THAT! Appreciate what Arsenal had signed and hope for the best!

Buy Baines as Gibbs is not ready to be a starter and is far to injury ravaged. Get Cahill, just pay Bolton what they want. Djourou is good, but I’d feel uneasy having to rely on him with his injury issues. Look into buying either bloke from Dortmund, or even Scott Dann. Remember Dann didn’t play the last four months of the season so he can’t be blamed for the demotion. Move Verm to defensive mid to challenge Song, I don’t like having him back there, he loses his head in big games. Or look into De Rossi’s availability and move Song to defence, but he’s probably a bit rash and ill disciplined for that. Bring in a keeper like Frey, he has a very uneasy relationship with his club at the moment. I like Scenzey, but he’s probably too young and immature to hold the number one after another season or two at a top club so I wouldn’t be after a long term keeper like Lloris. Given or Schwazer would have been perfect to be the number one for a season or two and work closely with Scenzey and then semi retire into the back up keeper role so that at least we have an experienced man to call upon if need be. Kos can be a Champions League defender, he seemed to be much better suited to Europe than the Premier League. Sébastien Squillaci is clearly a good defender, no poor defender makes over 20 appearances for France not to mention winning titles at Lyon as their first choice centre back. Give him some more time, not as a starter, but it’s difficult to adapt to such a different league at his age.
