Wenger pinpoints loophole in UEFA financial rules
Arsene Wenger has re-iterated that he would never spend fortunes on bringing big-name players to the Emirates, and he says that that will stand the Gunners in good stead when the new UEFA financial rules come into the equation in the next few years.
“If you look at our transfer record, we have never spent more than €15million – that gives you the answer,” Wenger said. “We are in the market always because if a good opportunity comes up we will always take it, but we are not in a desperate situation.”
But he also said that mega-rich owners will have certain loopholes they can employ to make sure they can still spend big in the transfer market if they are so inclined.
“If it is a private company they can decide how much money they put in — it can be a disguise sponsorship,” Wenger continued. “Will that sponsorship on the shirt be at the level of the price of the market?
“For example, if Abramovich has one of his companies and the usual price is £10million on the shirt, if he puts £50million in, can you go against that?”
Well I suppose that could work both ways. Perhaps Silent Stan Kroenke could do the same thing with Arsenal once he becomes the major shareholder?

Perhaps this is the reality check AW has needed. Loopholes are always a consequence of financial rules, its why accountants are employed to save on tax bills…nothing new there!
Wenger has, in his laudable way, tried to demonstrate how a club should be run within a sustainable financial system. With an even playing field Arsenal would have, at this point in time, the advantage over Chelsea man city etc in terms of the UEFA model of real transfer buying affordability. This is his crusade, but alas the brutal reality is that somewhere in the system “money talks” and as pointed out whether through sponsorship or other company investment, money will find its way in.Personally I would like Wenger to make a statement explaining that he has belief in the Uefa model and has tried to keep within the rules but that for arsenal to compete for the very top quality players we will have to employ similar “tactics” to some of our rivals perhaps on a one-off basis but that is not our general way of running our club. Whether you believe Wenger is stubborn or out-of-touch with the harsh realities of life is debatable, however his ethics cannot be questioned.

elvi, Wenger has alot of money at hes disposal if he wants to use it, he isnt jelous of the way other clubs throw there money around, he is proud that not only is he a superb football manager he also has built a team for less that £50 mil which finishes top four every season and is only getting better.
Honestly look around the premier league, who else has a squad with as much quality as Arseanl? Man u have been saved all season by giggs and scholes, that cant last. Chelsea’s best 3 players (drogba, lampard, terry) are all 30+, sooner or later our quality is gonna come through and we will be champions for years to come all because arsene wenger is a tight bastard who spends hes money on youth.

it is rediculous to find arsenal ‘fans’ needing arsenal to spend the chelsea and man shitty way. Its the reason why a player can hold a club to ransom forgetting that they need other players to pass the ball and defend for them. ah… Poor poor wenger, UEFA financial fair play hasn’t even came to effect and he is already whining. Arsene can bring unknown players and turn them into worldclass and superstars but he can’t hold on to them. Arsene has turn arsenal into selling club. He is happy to receive £20m plus for his players and yet he whines other club are spending more money than him. Why didn’t he sold adebayor for £5m and kolo for £3m, that would have certainly helped man city to spend less. He is happy to receive huge money for his players but at the same time he is unhappy others are also getting it. Doesn’t matter how you win the trophies, a win is a win. Arsenal are one of the most financially stable clubs in europe we aint owned by one billionaire that has a football club as a hobby we spend wisely and still stay in the top 4. And the reason I commented is for the one statement you made that wenger doesn know what he is doing financially if you knew anything the guy is a economic genius he has a masters in economics he has also been the guy who has givin arsenal such a great business model. We are not far off completing paying off the debt for the stadium when thats finished which will be by 2013 we will own the stadium have no debt and a top team who will be on top with all players value doubling or trebleing and all takings from tv rights stadium fees and so on will all be profit. Elvi, AW He is worry for our beutefully game it will go down soon or later if teams like man u, city, chelsea, barca, madrid, velencia, milan, inter and etc with the top class players from around the world but they can’t compete in uefa both cups, and if uefa allow them to do what they want one day they will gone. I think those that are clamouring for fresh blood in that team are going to be proven right. I like Wenger as a manager but I am not blind. Our team will not win the Premier League(and Wenger know too).
Aresnal are in many cup competion, the opportunity came to ‘refuel’ , many of us were shouting on top of our voices that the team needed one or two players so as to face the battle before us.
Nothing happened. The professor was expecting someone to knock on is door and throw players at him when other teams were going business till the late minutes of the window.

@ Realistic tony, you are right, “for arsenal to compete for the very top quality players we will have to employ similar “tactics” to some of our rivals perhaps on a one-off basis”. To enable us strenghten our weak positions (CB and DM) and have a BETTER chance of winning VALUABLE trophies. Yes, I do NOT support/agree with the STUPID, IRRESPONSIBLE, DESPERATE and OTT spending culture of Man C, Chelsea and Liverpool but, on a one-off basis, when we have a good chance like this season. I, seriously, don’t think such action will jeopardise or cripple our GREAT club. Let’s be reasonable and rationale at every appropriate time.
