Wenger regrets overplaying Wilshere and is worried about The Ox
Arsene Wenger is well aware that Jack Wilshere should not have played around 50 games in his first season at Arsenal, which has led to him being injured for the whole of this season, and he is worried about making the same mistake with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Arsenal manager said: “That’s what happened to us last year with Jack Wilshere, it was exactly the same.
“At the start of the season you think, ‘I will play him 20 games, maybe 25′.
“But when they deliver a performance like Saturday’s they play 45 and then they play for the national team and then they get injured.
“It’s very difficult to manage because people understand very quickly what kind of influence the players have. You want to win the game so you play them.”
He is also worried about the 18 year-old being put under the extra pressure of being picked for his country at such a young age, which he thinks was the problem with Theo Walcott, but he thinks that The Ox is a little better prepared to deal with it.
He said: “I don’t say I don’t want him to be rewarded with some praise when he has a good game.
“It’s about trying to find the right balance between having confidence and not being too early and too much under pressure.
“Walcott went to the World Cup without having played in the Premier League at all, so it was a bit early because he was 17 years old.
“For a while I felt that the pressure on Walcott was after that because nobody had seen him.
“He didn’t play at the World Cup and when he came back people said: ‘OK, he has been at the World Cup, now he has to deliver something special’.
“But you’ve seen now that Theo is developing very well.”
“I don’t want to compare them. The only thing I would say is that Chamberlain already had a complete season in League One and he survived quite well.
“He was a few times injured on his ankle. He’s 18 years old, Theo came here at 16 and a half or 17, so he is a bit older as well.”
Chamberlain already looks a lot bigger and stronger than Walcott, and he certainly has good signs of maturity in his interviews. I have a feeling that The Ox could easily survive playing every game between now and the end of the season…..

I believe the AW and the club need to protect the kid. Having a closer look to Ramsey and Walcott who are good players but far to be finished. Let the kid grows, be a part time player for the next 2 years constantly playing with U21! Here in England we are so just not use to have such exiting talents that when one emerged we putting too much pressure on the club, the player and manager.
As for Arsenal Gervhino coming back ( even if I personally think that the OX already seriously challenging him) next season I have got the feeling that Hazard is on his way to the Emirates this where he belong ( remember 2 years ago nobody hear of him! and now I heard Chelsea watched him more than 20 times!! what a joke!! we are watching him since he stopped the dummies!!lol!!).
Forget about this season and let the boss working I am sure he will deliver at some points IN WENGER I TRUST by his style and his values what exiting team with an english backbone and domestic homegrown we could have in a near future: Szeees ; Yennaris, Bartley, Miquel, Gibbs, Frimpong, Wilschere, Ramsey, Hazard, OX and Walcott.
To finish do not play the kid too much we have learn for previous experience.

@budgie, No need to mention Scott Parker anymore. Ramsey is young, has the quality and will improve. Song is a MVP in Arsenal. hope Coquelin will step up shortly!

i think we will mention scott parker because not only did we miss out on a quality signing we let him go to our main rivals who are now above us and the main reason is parker has galvinised the spuds, still cant believe the people that doubted scott parker.
as for chamberlin its not so much about the physical side you need to keep these kids hungry, give them to much to young and they can loose focus and motivation! plus we dont want to encourage a situation where the first team cant function without him.
keep him fresh and hungry to unleash on the spuds and milan, if it was me id hold him back for the sunderland games, league and fa cup! them dirty bastards will crock him if he starts getting the better of them!

Talking about coquelin,I don’t really think he’s a DMF,he plays like winger sometimes and he is versatile he could play upfront*who knows

Ramsey too slow and lazy..what games are some watching..he regularly laps Arshavin and Rosicky in games and has worn himself out that is why he lacks in the finish. He has to develop that..he needs a rest and less games. Fabregas was overplayed hence the niggling hamstring injuries. Wilshire was definitely overplayed and his injuries are comensurate with overuse and fatique. None of these three had finished growing when they were playing 40-50 games a year. As for wishing to buy established players on massive contracts….dream on. Arshavin apart from the first year has become more and more a liability..put weight on as we all do as we approach 30. He can no longer play the role on the left despite his undoubted skill. He is a very expensive impact player to have. The left side is now Chamberlain and Gervinho with Arshavin third choice..not a bad three to have. Coquelin has impressed many and could be a real star

I think Messi plays 70 games or something. He loves been overplayed and he never gets injured!

Wenger should proceed cautiously, with Chamberlain. ONE injury, just ONE and it could be downhill from there.

THE fact that Wilshire and Ramsey and now Oxlade-Chamberlain are playing so much says a lot about the current state of things at Arsenal and that we are no longer one of the Big clubs of Europe. At a Truly big club there would be Solid veteran Internationals in every position. Young players are bought for the future are brought on in the second half when games are won and developed slowly. They learn on the training ground from the older players and when they are ready for first team football they might be sent on loan if for half a season. Or rotated in to the squad in cup matches or for injured players.
NO Arsenal has dropped And I blame the current financial situation. Let Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum pay for the stadium its called the Emirates so why not make them pay for it. If Team finances have to pay for it then rename it Arsenal Stadium and get a new major sponsor that will pay to bring in top talent.
We have some great young players but what’s to happen when they are top seasoned internationals? Some other team with money to spend will come along and offer a bigger salary and off they go to play with other big name players to win a trophy for them and leaving us to find another young player to develop.
Never winning anything again. This is the current state of Arsenal FC sad but true.

We are actually in a situation where we need to win every single game. I think The Ox will be of great help for us to get up in big 4, to go far in Champions league and to end our trophy drought by lifting the FA cup. So please let him contribute. Don’t fear he is strong and we need him. I believe he is even the one making Walcott to improve because there is a serious competition for the first team football. Hope Gervinho will also come back and improve because all of them will be fighting for two places and on my opinion the Ox deserves one of those two places

if ur worried bout young player. atleast get some quality player mr.le prof. this summer gt rid off arshavin. hazard or goeze or erikson.any one of them.so this youngster n learn more n they dnt hv too much pressure in them. gervinho,walcrap,hazard/goetze/erikson,chambo,ryo. dnt build the team sround one young talent like what we did last yr with wilshere. when fabregas keep being injured(a lie,he really dnt wna play for us anymre. he is like samba at blackburn now. bt at us. they keep their mouth shut n pretend to be injured) sory no offence.
we even hapy with chambo than lazy russian n walcrap. even chambo alone is million miles better than the combination of walcrap, arshavin, ramshit, djourou, squid, almunia tgther.we need someone ahead of chambo that wil mke him even improve.that similar to him.direct. that is hazard. chambo wil learn a lot from him. imagine nxt year our winger hazard,chambo,gervinho,ryo-4 top winger. if by then rvp leave convert walcrap at the centre.

After watching Ox last game, I really am starting to believe he should play midfielder (the position he says he wants to play). I can just see it with him occasionally flipping in and out with both Gervinho and Walcott on top of Walcott and Gervinho switching sides. Not to mention he is defensively responsible. Now all they would need is a premier passing midfielder and we are set.
And of course Ramsey loses out!!!!
Am I out to lunch?
