Wenger resigned to losing Clichy but Liverpool can’t have him
The London Evening Standard has been talking to an Arsenal source who has told them that Gael Clichy has totally refused to sign a new contract with the Gunners after staying loyal for eight years.
Wenger made a point of speaking about trying to keep Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal next season, but he didn’t utter any word about the situation with Clichy’s contract talks which tells volumes about the progess made; zero!
Wenger now has no choice but to sell Clichy on this summer and the source reveals that Wenger will not sanction a move to another Premiership club. They say that a move to Italy is most likely with Inter Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Roma all being quoted as interested in signing the 25 year-old.
The problem with that is that Clichy is quite settled in England with his wife, Charlene Suric, and is keen to remain here, so Wenger may have problems persuading the French international to move abroad.
It may come to pass that Clichy may insist on moving to Liverpool or nowhere, but that may actually work to Wenger’s advantage if he gets a clear run on signing Jose Enrique from Newcastle.

why is everyone putting Enrique’s name about, its always the same case that we get linked with a player then everyone starts mentioning his name. No one mentioned Enrique before liverpool or we were linked with him. I think we can do better than clichy but better than enrique there must be someone else out there

You guys who are happy to see the back of Clichy are unbelievable! Even Philip Lahm or Ashley Cole would struggle in this Arsenal team, with its dodgy formation and the lazy Russian tracking back (or lack thereof). Tyber sums you lot up as not knowing anything about football with his ludicrous suggestion that Thomas Vermaelen could replace Clichy at LB.
No wonder why our club is going down the pan… you all probably think that Bendtner really is the best striker in the world and Denílson is world class.

We have Pedro coming back this summer so that means we’ll have Pedro, Gibbs and Enrique all fighting for the LB place. Personally I don’t count Traore as a choice because he’s getting sold…

There is news about Diaby and guess what he is injured and misses the start of the season. Clichy has never clicked with Arshavin, Nasri a little better but both do not work hard enough and leave Cichy exposed at times. Having said that he looks great going forward like most Arsenal players but tracking back??.

He is referring to Pedro Botelho, he a quick brazilian LB/LWB/LW. Miquel is a CB and should be loaned out this season to Blackburn if we get Samba or Bolton if we get Cahill.

Why would he leave? To win trophies? Where else in England would he go? The only clubs that are even debatebly better than Arsenal are Man City (Kolarov), Utd (Evra) or Chelsea (Cole).

Who the hell is Dan?
Clichy is one of the worst left backs in the previous season. He cost us 3 or 4 games that was crucial at the end. So i prefer Jose Enrique to replace Clichy. He has pure class in defending and also a gud crosser of the ball. We need such defensive talents at the back four.
But unfortunately some fans didnt realize what our team really neèd.

Baines Izzaguire Sakho are the best options as they Attack well and are consistent which Clichy has sadly not been
would feel sad to see him go being with the club for 8 years and being an Invincible

Everyone keeps putting baines in the frame yet i have not once heard that he wants to leave everton. in fact the fella must be reasonably happy he is englands 2nd choice left back after an ageing ashley cole. however if he is interested in moving to arsenal we should be talking to everton about taking clichy. i would rather clichy go there than liverpool.

Why do fans come on these blogs and predict doom and gloom! Arsenal are in great shape just a few minor adjustments and we will win trophies! Be loyal to your club instead of dissing them! If Clichy left I think the best thing to do is sign Cissoko from Lyon but Lyon signed him for 5 million euros and he has still 3 years left on his contract so would he be worth at least 20 million.

Sorry for the delay in answering mate but i was referring to Pedro Botelho. He’s been our player for about 3-4 years now but there’s been problems getting a visa for him to play in England. He should be coming to us this summer as his visa has been accepted. He’s a big Brazilian LB. Skillful, quick, tricky good on the ball. He can defend a bit too….

I have heard recently that we are very interested in 19 year old left back Alexander Milosevic who plays for AIK Solna along with many other top premier league teams, I dont know why considering we have Gibbs. Personally I hope we get either coentrao (if that is how you spell his name) because he is skillful, attacking minded and has great vision, when I have watched him play he looks awesome, or Baines because he is English which is always a plus and he has a great left peg he also has premier league experience which we need he is also a great free kick taker, he can defend and when he attacks he has good vision and is able to cross the ball better than many players in the premier league. So I am torn but who knows if we get some quality players like wenger and Ivan have openly stated numerous times gael might stay because he can see we actually want to win things. So who knows, hey.

For those idiots criticising people for suggesting Vermaelen as a Left Back (Dan for example) perhaps it’s your football knowledge that is lacking because otherwise you’d know that before joining Arsenal he was usually playing at Left Back for Ajax. It reminds me of when Gallas was at Chelsea playing Left Back and they conceeded 15 goals in an entire EPL season. I don’t expect he created many goals but Clichy has 4 assists in the last three seasons so it won’t take much for Vermaelen to beat that record. A creative LB would be a better option but Vermaelen would be a much better option than keeping Clichy both defensively and offensively.

If clichy wants to go….let him for no less than 8m
Vertonghen is our man for 10-13m
Positives:
- can play LB,CB,DM
- strong, tall (6.2″) composed on the ball in defense/attack
- leadership qualities
- mates with vermaelen and similar type player (suggesting easily adaptable to PL as TV5 was last year)
- Another belgian to attract the likes of Hazard
Negatives:
- city & united amongst others have also been scouting him so on a few teams’ radar which may inflate price if any offer goes public which to be fair….in this day and age is very likely.
Looking forward to busy transfer window….which opens July 1st as it does ‘every summer’ for those muppets getting frantic due to arsenal not making big signings already….just chill, cos as Gazidis said it WILL happen!
If not vertonghen….maybe we could go for Aly Cissokho! yes he’s another frenchy but terrific player with ambition, CL experience and can see him taking clichy’s spot for national team. As well as better defensive positioning he’s also 2 inches taller than clichy adding more height to the back line to aid defending set-pieces.
