Wenger says no new defenders needed at Arsenal
There will be many Arsenal fans a little surprised at Arsene Wenger’s statement that he won’t be buying any more central defenders, as the four we have are enough for the team.
Wenger has been linked with the Werder Bremen centre-back Per Mertesacker, and was asked if there was any truth in the rumours by the German magazine Kicker. “We currently have four central defenders,” he replied, “and so there is no need for another.”
Okay so Arsenal already have Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny, Johan Djourou and Sebastien Squillaci in the first team, and Wenger has promoted Ignasi Miquel to join them. We can all only hope that the young Spaniard will move above Squillaci in the pecking order, but he is hardly the big experienced hardman we were expecting to help the major problem of conceding from set-pieces.
Just two weeks ago, when it was confirmed that Arsenal had made a derisory bid for Phil Jagielka, Wenger was asked about the rumour. He replied: “Certainly, we will have to find one more defender. We are working on it.
“I don’t want to comment individually because I do not want to destabilise clubs. I do not want to do to other clubs what some clubs do to us, so I wouldn’t like to comment individually on any player.”

this is the final straw for me as a through and through arsenal fan!! Arsene Wenger needs to face reality that his philosophy is not working and it is summed up by the imminent departures of fabregas and nasri. these are our two best players and they are leaving so face the facts arsene, your way of managing is not working. our defence last year was terrible and we need an input to correct this but obviously to mr wenger we have quality defenders…yes quality defenders the ones who contributed to losing the league cup final, conceding 4 goals against newcastle, losing from 2-0 up at home to spurs 3-2 and the same away ffrom home 3-1 up to 3-3…its the same old story and its so so so so frustrating to see this unfold and arsene wenger does nothing about it!!! I thought id never say this but it is time for wenger to leave regardless of what he has done for the club…like the old saying goes, a player is never bigger than the club and this is the same principle for the manager…Arsenal were a big club before arsene wenger and we will still be a big club without arsene wenger..he has done his time and it is time for him to leave!!!

Being an Arsenal fan is hopeless now, look to the other team they are really fight to win the title. And they also ready to spent money if there is necessary. What happen to Wenger if the team really wanted to win the title why don’t he used his money to buy the player he need.That is insane, if he really wanted to claim the title his policy must be changed.Iron heart mind is no need now.
