Wenger says “quality and availability” drives Arsenal transfer dealings

Posted on May 14, 2011 by admin

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is looking to strengthen the Arsenal team this summer, but he says it all depends on who becomes available and whether they are of necessary quality to improve the squad.

He makes absolutely no mention of the price or the age of his transfer targets, in fact he gives absolutely nothing away and is very unlikely to in the future!

“It is down to availability and quality,” said Wenger. “We don’t rule out any position and we don’t target any special position before the transfer market.

“We look to strengthen every year of course. But first we look not to weaken because we want to keep all our players, and then we try to strengthen.

“It’s not about the number, it’s the quality. I don’t want to give out a number we’ll go for.

He went on to tell the assembled media: “I promise you that if we sign a player we will inform you and when we sell a player we will inform you as well. I would like to keep out of all the other speculation before that.”

So, no change there then!

He means…I will not pay over the odds for any player !
As much as I would like to see splash the cash on a marquee signing, I know he won’t.

So we’ll wait and see what happens in the summer.
With Arsene’s penny pinching …I get the feeling it’s gonna be a long one !.

well if its players that are better than the ones we have hes looking for then they dont have to be great because the ones we have are pure shit. This is his easy way out where when he doesnt buy a player he can say there was no players of quality available. typical wenger bullshit. iF he means business this summer then he will have all players bought before the club goes on pre season tour.

Falcao/scott parker/vertonghen if these three come in we will win the premiership next season parker will provide that hard tackler element we have been missing along with falcao a clinical scorer to take the pressure of van persie and stability to the backline from vertonghen! But i believe we must keep fabregas and tie down nasri or it will only weaken the team and if arshavin goes hazard would be amazing but then again the odds that wenger will splash so much cash is impossible to see..if no improvements are made ill not be surprised if we finish 6th or 5th

Hmm it will be a similar transfer season as before.i think no big signing will happen this season .may be one or two addition absolutely underdeveloped players .they will have to take two to three season to get develop. Then they have the guts to say I have to go wherever I get a better opportunity.similar to bendtner merida.during the time of playing with us nothing could bring into our game similar to diaby denilson some rare good performances only.nothing to take as negative only the youth blood in has the problem that they will have completely down when important situations .a completemixture of established experienced players will bring some courage to fight the young blood with circumstances .otherwise the overall result of the next season will always same.i think our current team is excellent but some psychological problem is there.that is always the downward going confidence as the season progresses.our senior players are not good enough to bring the season confidence because andrey rosicy and others all have their own problem with inconsistency.therefore some stubborn finished products have to be added.onething is sure if no such additions takesplace we can surely predict that we have to wait one more year .next season liverpool mancity will be much stronger than today.chelsea will try toeliminate the problems happened this year.man untd will strengthen surely.that is the competition will harder than ever.this years crown was ours but that will gone to united
.wait and see what will happens.

Take £30m for cesc all summer long, he has been poor this year or injured.
His heart is elsewhere so let him go along with diaby, denilson, rosicknote, ebousless, bendtner, vela, clichy (how nice would bastos be?), squallaci and arshavin.

Typical Asinine stuff. The Wenger youth camp set to comtinue. According to Forbes magazine list of august last year we are the third wealthiest club after Man U and Real madrid and far ahead of Barca, Inter, Ac Milan and ….. Chelski. This must come as a shock to those who keep parroting the propoganda that arsenal “doesnt have the money” to buy players.

Funny how all those clubs have won titles and trophies in the last two years. I wonder what the reason could be? – AW!

Even with this huge advantage and the untapped (arsene “i wont go to Asia preseason” Wenger) potential of the Arsenal brand around the world to generate revenue he cant translate that to a cup.

  23. AJ says:

    NickW –

Chamakh was important in the absence of RvP during the first half of the season. We wouldn’t have been in the position we were in at the beginning of 2011 without him. I am concerned with his “burn out”, some of his nice guy comments in deferring to RvP, and his shooting from distance. His strength is aerial, and we need to sort out our delivery from the flanks to get the most of him (and possibly change to a 4-4-1-1).

Kos should be one of the best CB’s in the EPL next season – the problem for him was that this season was supposed to be one of getting upto speed, but then Verminator got injured.

Squillaci is the signing that was most iffy. I blame it on AW fannying around at the world cup and leaving things till the last minute of the transfer window.

In addition to some of the more sexy transfers (e.g. Benzema, Hazard), it would be nice to get some more homegrown talent and steel into the squad this summer, e.g. Phil Jones, Jack Rodwell. One can only hope…

Are most of you thick or what? Wenger is hinting to the fans that he plans to spend money in the summer, WITHOUT suggesting to other clubs what position or price he is looking for. This approach means that Arsenal appear to be less desperate for a new CB, CDM and ST and therefore Wenger is able to bargain for a better price.

I feel really sorry for those who think wenger is gona go if they say wenger out, wenger looser, wenger this, wenger that. Some are even saying klopp in. WTF! that klopp guy just won one title and that too in porto, Portugal! Portugal is not england and their league is not even close to english! and people now want to trust a new guy who just won one trophy instead of trusting the most successful manager in the history of our club. Im not a die hard wenger fan and this doesnt mean that i am saying he has done everything right this season. But that doesnt mean we can trust a new guy more than him.

About the mass clear outs i’ve been reading for a while now. You know people that its not gona happen so stop wasting your energy for such foolish talks. For gods sake why would we wana have a mass clearout? whats the point of nurturing and playing together for so many years if you’r gona change them in just one month. Were mancity successful in the first year they spent so much? Even to win a FA cup it took three years of gelling in! Even real madrid with jose mourinho-the self proclaimed special one, won only the spanish version of FA cup this term! This is not your fantasy football manager where you get results even by changing the whole team every year.

Bottom line is, you’re just wasting your breath talking about mass clearances and wenger outs cuz thats not gona happen. Be realistic. I do believe that there must be two or three players out but just to bring in two or three new quality and experienced heads. Thats it. No more.

Wenger can afford to let four or five players leave and still retain a good nucleus. He doesn`t have to replace all five, two in the right positions well priced, not too cheap, not too dear will do but ,they have to be bought in June or before and ready for training first week July. None of this last minute bargain hunting.

@AJ sounds like another load of excuses to me typical of Wenger and his disciples. I don’t see how you can call Koscielny and Chamakh successes when overall they have been poor. Chamakh hasn’t scored this year as far as I can remember he’s also too slow and too light weight. Koscielny is too small, can’t head a ball and mis-times loads of tackles. Look at how easily Stoke beat us last week and Bolton 2 weeks before. Bottom line is fans know good players and these aren’t good enough.
