Wenger should seriously buy Scott Parker to be Wilshere’s mentor
The Arsenal legend (and piss-head!) Paul Merson is well known for putting his oar in where it’s not welcome, but I think for a change the man is actually talking a bit of sense this time around.
He is advocating that Wenger should change his habits and go all out to bring Scott Parker to the Emirates next seasn. Not only would it keep the Player-of-the-Year out of Tottenham’s hands, it would also add the “experience and maturity” that Wenger keeps promising the Arsenal fans.
Merson said: “He was the best midfield player in the country last season. Arsenal need to buy players who are going to perform now, not in two or three years because really they haven’t got two or three years to spare.
“He might be 30 but you know in the next two years he’s going to bring a trophy to Arsenal because of his energy. He’d also help bring along Jack Wilshire too.
“That’s the kind of player who I’d be looking at. He would come in and hit the ground running and it won’t be, ‘Oh well, next year he’ll be better’. Arsenal don’t have next year.”
But the main thing I liked about his speech was the idea that Parker could be a mentor for Jack Wilshere. They are similar types of players and personalities, so Parker could teach Wilshere so that he doesn’t make the same mistakes the 30 year-old made earlier in his career.
Could be a good call from Merson?

Personally I am a big fan of Parker. His work ethic is exceptional and he always tries as hard as he can. This would be a great buy for Arsenal but the only problem is if we do carry on playing a 4-3-3 where would we play him?

We don’t play 4-3-3. We play 4-2-3-1

When it is said that ‘we need experience’, it means that we need trophy winning know-how. Players who have been through the experience of winning a trophy and know what is needed.
Parker, although a great player, does not have this. He has experience in ‘games played’ but we do not need this. Most of our players have got plenty of experience in ‘games played’ as they have been playing at the top level since a young age.
Fabregas, RVP, Arshavin, Walcott, Clichy, TV5, Rosicky, Chamakh, Sagna, Nasri etc. have all played many hundreds of games.

Wenger should know that there no more time for experiment, no time for excuses and Arsenal board should back him up with enough money.
We ve suffered enough of heart break.

yup i agree…. Parker would mean a lot if he joins Arsenal and would be our best signing for the current season… Give me a 2/3 years contract …
he s an inspirational leader with the character and the ability to lead from the front..
he can mould the likes of wilshere, frimpong, lansbury into the best midfielders of their era and heart of our arsenal attack…
Hope WENGER is having an eye on his international duty…
Plzzz go for him plz….

And you should seriously have your head examined.
Don’t we have enough injury-prone players as it is.
Don’t we have enough players of 5 foot 9 and shorter.
How many times has Wenger signed players who are 30 years old or older?
And how much is this guy going to cost? Where is he going to play? Who is Wenger likely to let go to make room for him?
Only if we lose players we expect (or want) to keep is there any chance of an approach. But this is so unlikely.

WILSHIRE does not need PARKED-IT as a MENTOR
He has FABREGAS and better still RVP!
PARKER would be absolutely shite at Arsenal, he looks good in basic sides but when he’s in teams with other better players he can’t step up!
See him playing for England on Saturday if he gets a chance he will be consistantly shite as always guaranteed!

Parker is a tenacity, good passer and free roaming player like Wilshere but he could go for Spuds since Arry could lose Modric to MU. However,he should be available at realistic price and Arsenal should sign him to reduce the burden on Wilshere and provides extra competition for Song.

I think parker is a very good player. His strength and commitment are unmatched but i don’t feel he’s the player that would make arsenal champions. We need someone who has felt success and can push the team to success. Not someone from west ham please. ++ this guy is injury-prone. He should join spurs or whoever he wants to join.

this guy was player of the year and performed better than nearly every single one of our players did. i just cant believe you people, what OUR players did last season was a total embarresment and yet you guys then have the audacity to say parker isnt good enough for arsenal!!!!

Will Never happen – Parker, would want a guaranteed first team spot. Song or Parker? Song all day!!!Parker and Samba will be on the bench – wasted talent.

@ eleanor – Completely agree!! Hes a good player but not a good fit for Arsenal and at his age we wouldn’t be able to guarantee him regular football that he really needs to end his career on a high.

yeah you people are rite, we was on fire the end of last season and everyone in our first team was so good and never injured parker woulda just sat on the bench. good enough to win player of the year and earn the respect of all fellow profesionals, but not good enough for a team that has no leader, no desire, and got made fools of in the last 10 games of the league.
gimps !! every single one of you.

parkers attitude and desire was greater than our entire team put together last year. you people want answers but you wont open your eyes or ears.
we are not lacking talent, or skill, or experience, or quality, we are lacking soul!!!!!! what parker has not a single one of our players have and it cant be bought or teached. you lot just dont get it and neither does our team, nasri and his 110 grand a week sum this whole effing club up, and most of the fans too.
maybe its an old school thing but to me parker represents a real football player and people like fab and nasri are just plastic ponses.
I no the type of player id rather have at the club!

No way is Parker going to teach Wilshere anything. Wilshere is already one of the best Central Midfielders in the UK. The work rate of Wilshere is as high as Parkers too. Wilshere has to play and so does Fabregas, so Parker will have to fit into a 433. If Fabregas leaves, Ramsey and Wilshere will both play, so nothing will change there. Sign Parker, yeah, but expect Parker to learn from Wilshere.

I’m with Toby on this one. Also, if Parker goes to spuds that could be another problem. Sell Cesc and a few others, buy Parker and a few others.
Many of these pos(t)ers must be from the reserves squad, frightened of opponents and competition within the club.

You’re a fool dan… parker got schooled by arsenal when he played for charlton. I would rather have joey barton just to kick the sh1t out of everyone. Parker went to chelski and look what happened there. They won a few trophies without him. He’s ok but wilshere is already world class, way ahead of fat boy lamps and gerrard at 19. Arteta is a good shout for me in midfield. Need an englishman at the back though to pair up with koscielny. I would buy that dirty piece of p00 kevin nolan and stick him at the back. Great in the air and incredibly filthy challenges all round. That’s what we need.

Considering that we are not linked with anybody with’Trophy winning mentality’ we might has well have a player with a never say day attitude to help us from losing to a relegated team in a final , lose a 4 goal lead and some player who plays a little ruff has everybody knows to win you have to play a little Dirty

Arsenal have many problems and the most debilitating one at that, is the collaborative lack of leadership. That team has no leader. Hence no fight. No spirit.
At best Arsenal are one-dimensional and “tunnel-visioned” just like the manager. If Arsenal are serious this season, the ponses needs to be rid of. Ponses like Almunia, Diaby, Bendtner, Rosicky, Vela, Denilson and Eboue. These 7 must GO!
That is the 1st bit.
I think Arsenal should spend money this time around. The above 7 players will be a bit difficult to move on but Arsenal should get that done, or majority towards conclusion by the end of June.
Instead of having a ‘girl’ like Rosicky, replace him with Joey Barton. Barton is a thug and Arsenal needs to steel up. Bring in Parker to replace Denilson. With Barton and Parker, you have two steely English fighters and we need more. Apart from steel, Arsenal need stamina and presence in defence. Samba is a must buy. Let Clichy go if he wants to. If he wants to stay, then he must be second choice behind a new left back, Philip Lahm! Boot Squillaci and Chamakh to reserves and bring in Phil Jones. We need Peter Odemwingie and Radamel Falcao as 2 new strikers. Mamahdou Sakho to replace Eboue. In addition, we need one more imposing player in the middle to strengthen the whole squad. Where Arsenal is going wrong is limiting their transfers to their first 11s and for the last 4 years they start the season well and fall away when it matters in March April and May. The transfer activity should not only focus on the starting eleven but the entire squad. The way things are being done needs to change. No player should be walking into the team. With the deadwood ditched, the squad should look like this:
SZCZ
New Keeper (to replace Almunia)
Fabianski
Mannone (can go if he wants to)
Sagna
Sahko (replaced Eboue)
Koscielny
Djourou
Phil Jones (took place of Squillaci)
Vermaelen
Samba (necessity)
Lahm (to replace Clichy)
Gibbs
Fabregas
Parker (replaced Denilson)
Wilshere
Barton (replaced Roshitsky)
Song
Nasri
Walcott
Melo (necessity, imposing midfielder)
Ramsey
Arshavin
Van Persie
Odemwingie (replaces Vela)
Falcao (replaces Bendtner)
Benzema (takes place of Chamakh)
We have a lot of young players who can get us through the age requirements of FIFA, EUFA and the FA.
That is a 23 man squad that has steel, presence, pace, experience and goals in it. I can assure you, with the sale of those 7 players and Arsenal spending around 80million on these reinforcements, Arsenal will be the team to fear.
9 defenders in total
10 midfielders
4 strikers
No babies in the team. Wilshere Walcott and Ramsey are the 3 youngest players in there. But I wish we had this team full of men!

Harpo, couldn’t be bothered to read you trash so i skimmed through it. On barton, you copied me, on wilshere u haven’t got a clue. He bossed that midfield today single handedly. Seriously bent should’ve scored with his Jackie’s through ball. Wilshere was pulling the strings while while scott parker was left chasing shadows…seriously I saw him strolling through midfield, right on top on the defence…he was trying to play a defensive mid role but he was poorer than poor. He even went on a run and lost it immediately. A world lass midfielder would’ve retained possession in the team. In conclusion Harpo, you’re a fantasist with not a single grasp on reality. A daily mail reader no doubt and an armchair fan. That is all…
