Wenger – The Carling Cup is not a trophy, and i have no “courtesy”!

Posted on December 03, 2009 by admin

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to shake Mark Hughes hand at the end of Arsenal’s third defeat in a row, and then went on to deride the worth of the Carling Cup, saying it was just a competition for kids and wouldn’t be worth celebrating if Arsenal did win it!

Mark Hughes was not happy with Wenger’s refusal to shake his hand after the game, and he thinks that the Arsenal manager was upset because Hughes inadvertently walked into the Arsenal technical area during the match.

“At one point I was over on his side of the technical area and he seemed to be a bit aggrieved by that,” said Hughes.

“But I think he is probably more aggrieved because he got beaten.

“I have been to the Emirates Stadium and been beaten 6-2 but I still offered my hand at the end. It is the least you can do.

“I am a little bit disappointed in that respect. You should be a bit more gracious than that because it is unnecessary.

“We all hurt when we get beaten. No-one is more upset than me. But you should always offer your hand.”

But Wenger refused to explain himself afterwards, saying simply: “I have no professional courtesy”

He then went on to say how much he thought the Carling Cup was worth as a trophy.

“I know we have not won a trophy since 2005 but I do not consider that if you win the Carling Cup you will be going on a trophy parade,” he said.

“It is a competition for our younger players. If I don’t play them here where would I play them?

“We played in the quarter-final of the Champions League last season against top teams. Playing in those matches is 10 times harder than playing in the Carling Cup.”

Well at least he didn’t blame the referee or say the other team were lucky!

There is not another team, that fights for their respective Championship and has fans that constantly pick at everything their manager does.

    Quite disappointing and disgracfrul.

Sometimes I hope that Arsenal drop out of the top for. Pull you guys down to earth a bit.

  4. SAM says:

Ooooooooh!!!!!!!what a sorry feeling for one Mr Wenger.I don’t think that was the right altitude for a manager, he should have coincidered that his team lost but not undermining the trophy.

  6. ruthiee says:

A whole trained coach has the courage to say that the curling cup is not a trophy and has no courtesy. and yet the dude was bitter and would have wished that arsenal were through to the semi finals but lack was not on there side. Manchester city you did me proud by thrushin arsenal kudos. But watch out for if you meet with manchester united we will thrash you so do not start celebrating yet. the game is not yet over.

  7. Armiyau says:

We never learn from our lessons.anyway arsenal board are very patient, honestly.

  8. Cujo says:

Im with Wenger on this one. Seems like he’s a ‘tough guy’ stance in terms of attitude these days. NO MORE MR NICE WENGER. I think that’s exactly what is needed to spur the team on. All wenger ever did in his 13 year tenure at Arsenal was act in the best interests of the club, nobody can deny that! This time is no different. It is said that attitude determines altitude and im really eager to see how this will affect the team. Never a dull moment with Wenger around :D Go Go Gunners!!!

trophys trophys trooooooooooooophy troophys!!!! we want we want we want.. Its the only reason we support arsenal.. cos trohpys is only thing that counts. What do i care if turn out like city and buy ourselfs to glory. what do i care if we end up in massive debt. atleast i get to show off for my friends. AW sucks because he doesnt got the balls to use money we dont have to buy new plaers. Everyone els does. why cant he? Seems like everyone els are fine with some debt, they buy players, just not us.. unfair… trophyys…

Do i sound like your average muppet of a arsenal supporter now? mmm thought soo….

  10. Casicky says:

Arsene Wenger is a true manager but his not shaking business is an embarrassment to our club “Victoria Concordia Crescit” dats wat we all about and we have to be gracious in defeat as well so dat reaction sees him go down in my book um afraid. Why does he feel the need to chat so much??Carling Cup a worthless trophy??so everyone else running after it is worthless??don’t choose what’s worthless for us Wenger we will gloat parade rub opposition faces in it if we have to if we win we will really be happy about it does he really fink we would jus go “oh its jus da Carling Cup” his joking and I fink dis time his da only one laughing coz we fans r really tired of the theatrics…if your manager can’t shake hands after defeat do you really expect he will pull Eboue aside and tell him off for diving “NO CHANCE” Wenger dat was disgraceful!!!

  11. kbot says:

it’s a handshake. you guys are real idiots

so in today’s world, if you don’t get on with some you should shake there hand?

hell no, i’m glad wenger has a bit of spine. fuck mark hughes and fuck big spending city, i’m sure there was more to it than what was visible

and to the post above me. it makes me sad you’re an arsenal supporter, you sound like a goddamn moron

  12. TrueGooner says:

injuries never ever go our way and we dont have the players to replace them, thats why we play, tbh, abysmal.
why couldn’t the arsenal board wait untill the european championships were over and we would of had sir alex. but they forced a desicion out of him, he wanted to wait untill after the european championship had finished, so he said no and now we are left wondering what if..?
wenger does really bug me sometimes but i shall follow arsenal until the day i die…

Arsenals defence is awful, not just the defenders but the whole team cant defend at all. look at how chelsea defend…then compare it to arsenal…
