Wenger – Thierry Henry made scoring Arsenal’s winner look easy

Posted on January 10, 2012 by admin

Arsene Wenger took a chance when he brought Thierry Henry back to Arsenal after five years away, but he was rewarded within ten minutes of putting Henry on the pitch against Leeds in last nights FA Cup tie.

But even Wenger thought that the Gunners legend wouldn’t be able to score from that position. He said: “When he was in this position to score, I thought: ‘Oh, that’s your angle but it’s a bit too close.’ That’s where he surprised me. He didn’t force the shot and still made it look easy. I thought he was a bit too far to the left to pull it off but he always had that special finishing. That was Thierry Henry finishing.”

Henry began a long run in celebration which ended up with him in a bear hug with Arsene Wenger on the touchline, and I think it is safe to say that Henry enjoyed scoring the goal immensely!

“It’s all kind of weird,” Henry said. “When I came back from holiday in Mexico, 15 days ago, I never thought I’d play for Arsenal again, let alone score the winner. I don’t know what to say, to be honest. The feeling I had when I scored was amazing.

“I am enjoying the club as a fan where I wasn’t before: now I know how people feel when they score for the club they support. But it wasn’t the plan to end up as the hero. I will always remember tonight. I don’t know why but, when it comes to Arsenal, something happens with me. Sometimes in a bad way but most of the way in history in a good way.”

Henry certainly made history in a good way last night…….

KING HENRY IS BACK AND HAS DONE IN 10 MINUTES WHAT CHAMAKH COULDN’T DO ALL MATCH!!! I’m 18 years old so I didn’t get to watch Henry as much as I wish I could of as a child. But so far I’ve gotten the chance to view Sol Campbell, Jens Lehmenn, and now King Henry. What a great few blasts from the past. ARSENAL FOR LIFE!!!

People forget that even 5 or 6 years down the track,if Henry has lost 10 or 15% of his capacity, he is still better than most, because he was THAT MUCH better in his prime.

the king of kings is back and did what he always did. slightly lacking fitness but class is permanent. other plus was chambo looked like he’s ready for the first team and even push walcott out. he actually looks like who will score rather than hoping to score. can’t wait for sagna and santos who adds another dimension to the attack and of course wilshire. once they are back we can actually challenge for the top.

  6. Lol says:

I agree, the ox is ready. I think we should play him on the left, with Gervinho on the right. Gervinho’s finishing isn’t good enough, but he puts in a good pass or two. If you watch the ox he likes to cut in and finish like Nani or Rooney, so the left would suit him well. Walcott could either be sold, converted to a striker, or used as a super sub.

sriously we need a playmaker to gve us somethng on final third.it jst mkes me missed fabregas.

and no need to mention.i hv that dream of henry scoring n evryone cn see that coming.all hail arsenal legend n king!! Thierry Henry!! Walcott that shows yoi if you wna b a centre forward n that hw u finish.dnt rely much on ur pace.see hw henry combine it with hes brain.hope walcott cn improve.f not he doesnt dserve the shirt number.

i knew he wuld score – legend s always a legend…bcuz Henry has a brillant football brain which he clearly hasnt lost it…positioning-placing the ball perfectly n more.. Somethin Chamak, arshavin, now more n more fans frusterator Walcott s lacking Clearly…..
Walcott, shud school himself intensibly how da legend does it innit? Or leave his spot 2 ever improvin Chambo, -i like this kid, he s hard worker..
I want Henry 2 talk 2 AW about clubs future n lack of world class players (dnt get me wrong, we have world class, bt dey r nt Arsenal standard), n da legend incourages AW 2 stop being PET 4 da board (shitty gazi n kroenke) and demand funds 4 players n more……
I love henry but when he leaves – I hope youngsters n our 1st teamers learn the way of play and passion of winning and most important the LOVE 4 AFC, fom da legend…

Another wish: jan tranfers in – Vertoghe from Ajax n Demba Ba…also Rues. And sacking of shitty Pat rice n getting Bergham from Ajax (he wuld help AW wit tactics he s lacking now)

Very emotional at emirates tonight, Henry is a genius, 1 of the best players the premier league has ever had, tonight was the best moment at the Emirates stadium yet, obviously hopefully a win at the emirates to secure a league is on the way, however tonight belongs to Henry. Ladies and gentleman the king has returned, or should i say the King has entered the biulding? A great night for all us gooooooners including our sad board of directors and Mr Adam Kemp, thankyou Thiery, im sure theres more to come yet from you, well done Le prof for bringing him back. Back up strikers not giving us the goals. Time to move on and sell Chamakh, Arshavin and look at Walcott too. The great Arsenal require boost in defence-x2 an attacking mid field player and a target striker/finisher. Hazrad, Gotze, Moussa Sow, Kalou, Podolski, Samba, Cissoko, Cahill.
Please AW get us settled before end of season so next year we will challenge for Premiership. Well Done the true Legend Thierry Henry!!!!!!!!!!

Thiry Henry is a class act – and although cliched but it must be said – old habits die hard-

with what ease TH completed the goal…. Theo, Chamakh, Arshavin should benefit from TH just being there….

Class is permanent & Thiery Henry proved it one more time….

I never got the chance to watch the match but by the comments here, especially how th celebrated his goal, i was goose bumped. He has always been training with our squad whenever mls season ended and my worry is why our present crop of players except rvp never learn from th? If there is anything the present arsenal players are lacking, then no doubt its their inability to utilise the created chances and it took wenger some months to teach henry that with the help of dennis berkamp but wenger himself is now a lazy coach who has lost vision. I see fab playing for arsenal one day too.

THE KING IS BACK!!!!! when he scored that goal i got all emotional.

I have to say though there is one player who is quietly developing into on of our most dangerous players – Alex Song. His normal defensive game has improved this year but he has added to that an attacking ability that has created some spectacular goals. His pass to TH12 last night was similar to the pas he made to RVP (i think it was against Dortmund).

For our next game i hope we will get to see RVP and TH12 play together up front. The Master and the student will cuase havoc for any defence.

The King. Not sure what else to say. Magical run to beat the offside trap by the slimmest of margins. Perfect touch to set himself. And that finish… wow. He could still play EPL and score 15 off the bench no worries I think. His touch, finishing and class are just amazing.

It’s fairy tale stuff isn’t it.
The ease of the finish was just impeccable and goes to show you never forget how to ride a bicycle or in Thierry’s case how to score a goal.
If he can can pass some wisdom on his finishing capability over to Gervinho and Walcott it would be great.
We have the best goal scorer the English game has ever had and we need to take advantage of that fact.

The statistics speak for themselves. 1st half about a dozen chances none on target, most in row z, Enter T.H 1 chance, 1 on target = 1 goal and a win. Leeds had 1 chance on target the whole game and could have took us back home. Sheer class. Please look at that for what it was Wenger and sign another proven goal scorer cause we lack composure in the 18 yard box when RVP don’t play. The Ox was great last night (the only other player to have a shot on target). Also Coquelin and Miguel looked fine. Rambo, Song and Arteta worked very hard and controlled the midfield but again Rambo needs to work on his scoring ability. Arshavin worked hard but looks totally a spent force in front of goal and Chamakh again does not attack the last defender enough and wasn’t a problem for leeds defence. On saying this I loved the dream being realised.

Ramilson, you should be ashamed of yourself. You needed a DM Song to do the job for you, to give an assist to Henry. Being a DM, Song has created more than Ramilson, really shameful. And walcott, he needs 30 chances to score, Henry needed only 1, never mind Henry is slower, a 30% Henry is still better than a 100% walcott.

Unbelievable moment. Hope Henry inspires our team (and young players) to glory. Finally the role model our players need – 34, but still gives 110%, and has so much pride in wearing a Gunner shirt! That’s what our team needs – a sense of privilege to be wearing an Arsenal shirt, and with that the commitment, and respect to give nothing less that 100% when on the field. (On a side note – Nasri: P!ss OFF! You left us for cash elsewhere. Don’t be coming back to support anyone connected to us.)

watching my one and only arsenal yesterday, i discovered one or two things about Chamakh and Asharvin. This is that the former has some football in his legs and on his head, the only problem is that he is extremely lazy such that he becomes a spectator in a game instead of playing. On the otherhand, Asharvin has totally no amount of football neither in his legs nor his head. Infact he has a misplaced career. The way he played yesterday, clearly shows that he is better be a rugby player rather than being what he is today, because his shooting and dribbling perfectly resembles those of rugby superstars. Thus, before it is too late, let him quit soccer and start his suitable game(rugby). Viva gunners.

Henry was unreal! Pure class. Bit concerned about who will score when leaves (obviously except rvp). In fairness to Arshavin, he really tried. He’s going the right way. He just needs some confidence and people saying he’s crap isnt going to help. With confidence comes composure and that what he needs. I thought the ox was great aswell. Great ability just needs to relax sometimes and compose himself when shooting. I think Chamakh didnt play to bad but has the same problem as Arshavin. Confidence and composure. He defo has the ability but needs to take on the shot more. He probably will get more stick after Leeds which will lead to him underperforming more. Ease off the stick people!!
