Wenger to move in for Enrique this week
It is being reported today that Arsene Wenger has every intention of making a move for the Newcastle defender Jose Enrique as soon as he returns from his trip to the Far East.
Wenger has thrown everyone off the scent by saying that he didn’t need a replacement for Gael Clichy as Kieran Gibbs is now ready to step up to the first team, and he also has Armand Traore and Thomas Vermaelen as cover for emergencies.
But everyone knows that Traore has never impressed Wenger when called upon for the Arsenal first team, and Kieran Gibbs spends more time on the treatment table than on the training pitch, so it is quite possible that a move for Enrique, especially as has told Alan Pardew that he only wants to move to a Champions League club.
The Star quotes an Arsenal source in China as saying: “Arsene is aware of the news coming from Newcastle that Enrique is holding out for a club that can offer him Champions League football.
“Once he is back in England the chance of a transfer will be explored.”
The Arsenal defence has always been the main problem in the team for the last few years, so surely Wenger wouldn’t take a chance on only having Gibbs and Traore as the only real left-backs?
Or would he?

Id prefer Baines even if he is more expensive.(but come on 15 mil+ for Baines is too much)

Enrique is a very average player. Gibbs and Traore have received more international recognition than him for a reason. As for his height he is shorter than Traore and only an inch taller than Gibbs. I really hope we are not interested in this player, whilst he is better than Clichy he is not as good as Gibbs or Traore.
We already have a better left back at the club, Vermaelen, but that would mean buying 2 better centre halves, which would be my option.

Never going to happen. Wenger will buy somebody b4 the window closes but it won’t be cahill, enrique or samba. it will be another squillachi. a relative unknown who is just a level below been able to play for us.

I’ve given up on WENGER – long time back. He is a deluded fool. There will be no quality signings while that clown is in charge – besides all the top players give our club a wide berth because of him. All we could attract is young promising players, who would want to use AFC to hone their craft then use us as a stepping stone to teams that actually have ambition. Interesting what Clichy said about AFC being losers – he was right – but God only knows why City with all their wealth wanted rubbish like him?

We don’t need a centre back, as we didn’t have our first choice pairing for almost the whole season. With verm, koscielny (who is amazing, very underrated), djourou, squillaci as a last resort and Bartley and miquel coming through, we should be fine. A left back is much more important, because Gibbs isn’t ready.

It is well reported that Newcastle are trying to deal with the sale of Enrique quickly, and that they have been sounding out many replacements at the LB position (I think they were after the Swans LB not too long ago). This more than implies they are expecting him to leave imminently. Yet strangely, there has not been much talk of interest from other clubs in Enrique – yes, Liverpool and Arsenal have been mentioned (they’re the top UK clubs in need of a LB), but no managers have said anything, and you would expect Kenny to have said something if they were after the player.
Wenger is (in)famous for not saying anything when closing out a deal on a player. I think this has to be proof that Enrique is on the way in. The statement about Gibbs, Traore and Vermaelen seems like a deliberate Wenger ploy to throw the press (and other clubs) off the Enrique transfer scent. I think we can take Wenger’s silence and the lack of noise around Enrique as decent evidence that we will see Enrique sign at Arsenal within the next fortnight.

An improvement on Clichy, i approve this transfer. but i would have prefered baines. though he wouldnt go for less than 15 mill in my opinion and jose will coem for 7/8mil and do a good job.

part of me really wants to get gibbs, and traore to play a lot. especially since gibbs and traore are both getting older. but part of me dosen’t want gibbs or traore playing big games like ucl and games against top teams

Am i the only one who thinks samba is crap
All the wenger haters have latched onto samba like he is the new messiah. The guy has one good game in 3 and gets skinned consistantly whenever he plays a good opposition. Ya he looks good versus stoke and such but with srsenals injury record the liklyhood of him playing only versus bad teams is slim to none

Why would you buy Cahill when mertesacker is an equally good option and 1/3 of the price? Or hangeland for example. People need to stop spouting the gibberish names they hear on message boards and think about who might actually be any good, which I reckon is more likely what Monsieur Wenger does.

Enrique will be a good signing. Sure he’s not the best LB in the world, but he’s consistent and always give 100% every game. We need more player of his kind in the squad. It’d be also good for Gibbs. We still need WORLD CLASS CBs and Keeper though. I’m getting very frustated with Arsene. Or maybe it’s just Arsenal’s traditon to do everything quietly??? I’d love to see Mertesacker, Hangeland, or Cahill playing along side Verm or Djourou (underraed) with Sebastian Frey between the posts!

This is what i think is gona happen by the end of the transfer market. Wenger wil sell either nasri or cesc not both and it looks like it wil be nasri,due to the fact he only has a year left and barca wnt pay up but he wont lose both, thats y hes given barca 2 weeks to put or shut up. If cesc goes a replacement wud b bought for when nasri goes next summer and ramsey wil b given his chance but as sub while nasri plays in cesc position. As for the defence i can only think of a CB coming in and traore and gibbs wil be our LB unless he get rid of traore. Wenger is not one to make alot of changes to the team bcos it can hav a negative effect on a team if too much comes in or goes out. So i honestly think wenger wil bring in one more player for the first unless some is sold, all other recruits wil b young unknows for the future

How ANYONE can compare Jose Enrique to Clichy is an insult on Jose. I think Jose is more productive, can cross MUCH MUCH better and is just as fast.. Defensively he’s not BAD! Not saying Jose is world-class (which is what we need at Arsenal)…We need to replace Clichy but getting a WORLD-CLASS LB would cost in excess of 30million pound, I doubt that’s what Wenger budgeted for, so Enrique will have to do… But something tells me WENGER will wait for his contract to run down and get him on a BOSMAN!!! Cheap fool!!!
