Wenger to spend Van Persie compensation on David Villa?
There has been speculation that Arsenal may get around £20m compensation from the Dutch FA after the debacle with Robin Van Persie, and the Daily Mirror is suggesting that Arsene Wenger has decided to use the money to pay for a top class replacement for his number one striker.
They say that Arsenal are considering a move for the top Spanish hitman David Villa, after Valencia revealed that they may be forced to sell him to balance their books.
Wenger knows that he will need a proven finisher if they are going to continue to be serious challengers for the title and the Champions League, and Villa has been added to the list that included Carlton Cole, before he got injured, and Edin Dzeko, who has now been ruled out as Wolfsburg are demanding too much money.
This leaves Villa as the best bet for Arsenal’s trophy aspirations, and to cheer up the disillusioned supporters, who are becoming increasingly concerned that Wenger will never spend any of the yearly profits to improve the team.
One super plus for Villa is that he has only played in the Europa League with Valencia this season, so could be registered for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Fifa have already said we will get no compensation and we will never attract Villa he wants to stay in spain and my bet is he will either go to Real or Barca, he would break the wage structure of Arsenal!! Wenger will never pay out that much money……………..best we will likely get is Gignac
I like your post. As much as I love the arsenal squad, and whether we win anything or not, it wont change a thing for me. I wont be asking Wenger to resign or get the sack.
In terms of where we are, something seems to be missing up front at the moment. I think with Eduardo, this whole cheating media witchhunt has destroyed the player. It is not just injuries. Even though he was out of the team before the witchhunt, his form was fantastic. All of a sudden, the player’s heart and confidence is completely destroyed.
The media owes him an apology.
In terms of what we can do, while I seriously doubt Wenger will part with too much cash in January, David Villa is one hell of an asset, so are the Dzenko and a few other players. Wenger needs to sign someone at their peak, who will make opposition defenders tremble at just hearing his name. 1/2 the battle in football is psychological. When Bergkamp was signed, he was at the peak of his game and a well established world class player, and Wenger ought to get someone of that ilk…
Whether he will or not, only God knows. What I do know, however, is that Wenger has been looking at many many players, even in the summer. It seems like the price he is bidding is just not right, and whether that is because the club dont have money, I cant really say for sure.
The team just needs that next 5%…the quick fix is to buy a player. We dont have a proper forward line at the moment.

Arsenal does not villa.he is too small for the premiership we need dzeko or cole or gigmac some one who can hold the ball up without getting brushed aside.
Other than the fact we won’t get compensation, the problem with this article:

Villa price – free 20mil = still way more than what we’d have to pay for Dzeko.

Why not shut up all the fuss and just sign Adriano on loan for the second part of the season? He’s got all the attributes that Arsenal need in a striker. Strong, tall, imposing, powerful (shot and presence), good in the air and good at holding the ball up and linking with other supporting players. This is true because of his Brazillian heritage. Not saying that ALL Brazillians are great at linkkng play but he has played for a couple World Class teams, Inter Milan comes to mind, and was part of the Brazilian National Team and still could be. And if people have any complaints about his attitude well then I say thats why Wenger would sign him on loan. And in any case I believe Wenger can awaken the hunger, desire, and discipline in the man and make him a complete player. The player the whole world though he could be. The question is does Wenger?

heard an analyst suggest wenger would probably go for someone in the anelka mold – big and sturdy, but also veryyy mobile. in that case, i see Remy being the most likely target.
if david villa comes to arsenal it will be good for us in two ways…one thing he will be a strong prolific goal scorer for us and i think fabregas will not leave arsenal..the link up play will be great..

I don,t know what games certain Arsenal supporters are not watching/analysing as it,s clear they have no clue.Bendtner has scored some crucial goals and is clearly missed with van Persie out ,so their memories are very short it seems. Walcott is rubbish a typical English centre forward with an atrocious first touch ,Ramsey cannot seem to handle the physical side and Wilshere is incapable of playing in this tough league,facts .

Tazz, I think Porto was the best we could draw not because they are not good enough but we have faced and beaten them before so we can be confident on Jan 17Th.
