Wenger – We can’t buy players for £50m
Arsene Wenger saw his team limp away the end of the season in fourth place in the Premier League after just managing a late equaliser against a 10-man Fulham team. It is obvious to everyone that Arsenal need strengthening in many departments, but probably in the mind most of all.
But Wenger has made it clear yet again that he will NOT be buying expensive stars, but he will try and reinforce the squad the best he can….
He said: “We need good players, world-class players,”
“We will try to buy the right players. Spending is not a purpose, it’s not our goal. We want the right players.
“We have to be conscious that we cannot buy players for £50million. We fight with opponents who can do that.
“You have to live in a realistic world, therefore we will give it our best to strengthen the team.”
I hate to say it, but in a realistic world Arsenal are the third richest club (in the World!) and have the revenue to compete with our rivals. The difference is that Wenger (and the board) refuse to spend their profits…..
(And then raise an extra £4.5m by charging the fans an extra 6.5% to watch the games – Grrrrrrrrr…..)

If I remember correctly, Arsenal is not the 3rd richest club in the world in terms of revenue and purchasing power.
We’re the third richest when it comes to our market value which means if someone were to buy the WHOLE club, he’d have to pay the third biggest amount for it.
First goes Manchester, then Real Madrid, then Arsenal and then Bayern if I’m not mistaken.
But when it comes to buying players and purchasing power we all know Man City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are the top 3.

The editor is right, regardless of what the statistics of one table show you also have to acknowledge that Usmanov and Kroenke can put up a much much bigger equity and increase the purchasing of Arsenal, as Chelsea, Mancity and Real Madrid do. We all know Usmanov is willing to do so, Kroenke, i think he would agree to do so. So it is wenger that pretends to make us beleive that we can’t, when we actually CAN. IS just THAT SOME people DON’T WANT TO, OR WE MIGHT NOT NEED TO.
BUT WE CAN PURCHASE THOSE PLAYERS, and a true gunner SHOULD NOT JUSTIFY THE CHEAP POLICIES THAT MAKE NO SENSE FOR A CLUB SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYING FOR A QUADRUPLE EVERY SEASON.

Arsenal simply do not have the spending power of Man Utd, Chelsea, City etc. Even Liverpool out muscle us in this department. I dont know exactly why, i guess they make more money from overseas and sponsorships than we do, plus, City and Chelsea are owned by billionaires prepared to plow their money directly into the clubs. We are led to believe that the Arsenal rely on gates more than these clubs and thats why the rise of 6.5% in tkts. seems odd though since we are already the most expensive side to watch in the prem even before the proposed rise? it seems that somewhere along the line the fans are being seriously short changed while the club announces record profits year after year. if we dont spend bigger to compete more with these sides the board could see these profits start slipping away soon. ill never lose faith in my side but i am beginning to lose faith in the board and, dare i say it……Wenger too! these are strange times as an arsenal fan

The news came in tha carlo ancelotti got fired inspite of chelesa finishing second in league. Well sometimes i feel we have been to patience with wenger especially regarding his stubborn attitude each season. I think its high time people raise questions regarding his youth and new player spending policies. With our current squad i dont feel we can easily break through at top of table next year. I am not saying he should buy 50 million pound players but atleast he should not look at the cheapest options. Arsenal fans respond we need changes.

i think we need a change off policy from the board,the time as come for the old etonians to step down,hill wood must be 80 now,and is past his best.
the time has come to allow usmanov on to the board,and for kronke to work with him in a partnership,that would be to the benefit for both men and club,if this happens then buying players,and mixing youth players into the squad could see us take off again.
unfortunatly the boardroom battle that has cost arsenal more then the fans realise will continue for along time yet,the yank won’t work with the russian,make of it what you like,a clash of personalities or politics ?i don’t know but it a fight that will cost us the fans again and again.

Wenger saying he ‘will not spend 50 million on one player’ is not being ‘cheap’. No player is worth that much and look at how torres turned out. It is a smart move as I don’t want Arsenal sucked into the culture of buying trophies. I wouldn’t support Arsenal if that was the case. I do however want him to spend on big players nonetheless e.g Benzema, M’villa, Sakho, Hazard. Wenger enjoys raiding the French league yet he always picks the wrong players. Hopefully he will see the error of his ways.

No one is asking for a 50 mill signing.
The fans at the Fulham Games were saying he should spend the money !
We are not idiots and we are not asking Arsene to sign Kaka; we need 3 players and should have sufficient funds to sign them. The problem is that Arsene is far too involved in the process, he should provide the board his targets and nothing else. He should nor be allowed to be involved in agreeing the transfer fee or the contract talks…. He is a penny pincher and a born gambler.
The chief exec needs to step up and challenge Arsene or f*ck off back to MLS.
If serious changes to the squad and backroom staff is not made…the moaning and complaining of the fans this season will only be the start.

I am tired of Wenger’s spin and lies. He is a very shrewd person, but he is taking the piss now. Nobody asked him to spend £50mn or to rejig the entire squad. It is a well known fact that we had 2 jokers for goalkeepers. Another couple of million could’ve secured Schwarzer from Fulham who was keen to come. That would’ve avoided the 6-8 silly points we conceded at the beginning of the season, and the 2-3 years of service from him would’ve eased Sczezny into the first team and helped him develop.
Another case is the £10 odd million each he spent for Koscielny and Squillaci. Another 10-15 million could’ve bought us a pair of much better defenders.
So the 2-3 million saved in not buying a GK, and another 10-15m saved by shortchanging our defence. The total 12-15 million (not 50mn) would’ve got us the title and helped keep the team happy and together for a long time. But now we are gonna lose Fabregas, and even perhaps Nasri and Clichy who are tired of being shortchanged and listening to Wenger’s false rhetorics that this team is the best ever Arsenal side. Their is a culture of complacency with the likes of Diaby, Rosicky, Denilson etc not getting an axe, no matter how they play. Wenger’s time is up. He is a great coach, but a pathetic manager!

One thing I don’t understand, since when we are asking for a 50 million player? We only asked for a few players that cost up to 50 million in total.
All Arsenal fans understand that we are not as rich as Real Madrid, Chelsea and Man City. We accept that we don’t have a sugar daddy and we need to be compliance to FIFA rule.

The season is over & now it’s time for introspection…
Bastrd AW , the big-mouthed, sly & cunning fox as he is, we just don’t believe him.. Nobody asked him to buy a player worth 50M… the fact that he is a born-loser comes out from his inane statements…
Just a couple of months,, some fckd-up sould like Demongooner, Arunava, Swagger, Chris were asking us to be patient & wait for the season-end when we would become champions…
