Wenger – We could have won the title, but it’s my fault that we didn’t!

Posted on April 29, 2011 by admin

The Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is feeling terribly “frustrated” since his team’s collapse after the Carling Cup defeat, as he truly believed that Arsenal were ready to go all the way and win the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have only won twice in the ten games since then, but Wenger refuses to blame the players as he has to take the biggest share of the responsibilty for not motivating the team.

“Yes it has been frustrating because if you look at all the numbers, it is the closest we have been,” he said.

“Just look at the last week, we could have had nine points quite easily against Liverpool, Tottenham and Bolton and in the end we finished with two points.

“We feel more frustrated than ever because we are closer than ever to winning this league. Of all the trophies, the most important above all for me is the league and this year we had the quality to win it.

“The unfortunate thing is that there are plenty of moments to look back at with regret. We missed many opportunities.

“The players gave everything and I am responsible for the results so if there is someone to blame, it’s me. I have to stand up for the results and the way that we play and the way that we behave, and that has not changed since last Sunday.”

Is it really Wenger’s fault, or perhaps we should be blaming the players for not performing?

Arsene Wenger has done his part as Arsenal and it is high time he took full responsibility, not just by words but also by deed. He needs to call it quits and let someone else try his luck. A team of Arsenal’s calibre can’t go for a whole six-year period without a trophy! Barcelona is playing beautiful soccer just like the gunners and they are winning trophies. So, no more excuses, Prof. Arsenal can’t sell without replacing with top notch players and expect to win!!

its obvious he is frustrated, as we fans are continually over the past few seasons. It is Wenger’s fault and he is big enough to admit that (which is laudable), however its not just a lack of motivation its a whole range of mistakes and poor judgement throughout the season and for a few more before.
We didnt deserve to win the league because we are not good enough…i dont agree with him that we are close, i believe we are way short…and so does the horrible but perceptive alex ferg’. Its down to personnel on the pitch as well as motivation…..we need strengthening through the spine of the team. He wont do that so it will be the same again next year…or worse.

Of course its the manager’s fault. When Arsene Wenger didn’t admit his mistake, everyone was blaming him and now he’s admitted it, the blame goes on to the players???

Its a team thing…win as a team…..lose as a team. Of course Wenger is at fault – he gambled on Vermaulans fitness and lost. However the players are not Highbury u/6′s, most of them are internationals and highly paid professionals. There were half a dozen key mistakes that professionals shouldnt make that were made and there were 10-12 goals that professionals should score that werent scored. The reality is that had we not given aay games with stupidity and taken our chances we could be leading the comp….so of course the players must wear some blame.

yes wenger was to blame for all the team problem 4 the past year how on earth a manager of his class will be using same failed player without buying the required and experience player. Prof. pls do the right thing.

Oh really?? Like none of us knew it was HIS fault. Now all you mutts who had your heads up Wenger’s arse saying it wasn’t his fault — na nana na na!! Question is will he be man enough after this admission to resign and let someone else have a go? Of course not! Hell, if I was being paid 6 million quid to do jack shit and there was no pressure whatsoever to deliver anything in my job – why would I leave?! Ha!

  15. Pavlos Pavlidis says:

He took responsibility and admitted that it was his wrong decisions, tactics and lack of motivation that drove the team to where it is now. To me that may be a sign for some change. I mean, yes there are players underperforming, but then again it is Wengers fault for choosing to use them more than needed. I’m hoping for big things next season beggining from the summer where I’d love to see some boost, especially a commanding partner to Vermaelen. Maybe a change to 4-4-2 too. The good thing of all this is that he doesn’t blame the refs or accuse anyone but himself. I can see that he knows what’s wrong and clearly sees how dissapointed the fans are too. A win over Manchester Utd would end the season in an optimistic way for me. It will once more be a trophyless season but I think there are different things to expect from next season comparing to what was done previous seasons. Keep the hope alive, and let the man in charge make things right. The only thing we as fans can effectively do is support Arsenal!

  17. NickW says:

Of course it’s his fault, it’s down to him if the team can’t defend properly and it’s down to him if they can’t penetrate opposition defences. Mostly it’s down to him that the our team doesn’t work as hard off the ball as most other teams do. Just look at how hard Barcelona work to get the ball back. Also his stubborn refusal replace sub standard players has cost the team dear.

i respect arsene wenger. But i don’t know what to think of his press conferances. He said the side has mental strenthbut when u read that he said he made mistakes which were the same for the past six years, deep inside u just felt may be we need a to let him go, may be he takes too much risk with young players who have yet to prove them selves, let alone win big trophies.
His press confrences and post match reactions all have be come too dissapointing. It sometimes feel like he is living in other planet.
Summer transfer and next season are going to be interesting, that will show us if wenger is finished or he is still the man.
    Arsenal forever.

We have endured for the past six years and i have a feeling wenger should be pardoned once more. His style is benefitial to the shareholders and we the fans are always frustrated. we need to offload flops and acquire players who have a winning mentality.

I am confident wenger is among the best coaches in the world of football. he should shake up the squad by selling unsettled players (fabregas, eboue, almunia, fabiansky, rosicky and denilson)

Diaby shd be given more chance with caution to be serious other than playing to impress. i believe he can be likened to vieira is he gets serious.

I love arsenal and the enduring fans. our patience will pay off someday.

  21. to me arsene is the best manager in the world if only he can do the right thing. Just look at the time he coached those experience players no team could beat untill he started with these children. If asene can fix his error by leting most of those players to go and buy experience player, you will all agree with me that he is d best. Player like diaby, almunia, delinso, betner, ebue, arshavin, rosisk, chamark, clichy, we dont need all these listf players again. Let them go, sometimes i wonder if wenger do re watch most of our match to see the kind of disaster these players have caused us. I wish wenger could take my advice. And prove to the world that he is best

  22. Sedo says:

A manager is someone, who has to be able to motivate his players, and has to choose the right tactic, and has to replace properly) so Wenger has this time right, because he is permanently failing all with this tasks. The situation is similar every year; March and April are the months of the disintegration for Arsenal. Even in 2003 was the situation the same; we had the best squad in England, and in the end Man Utd was the champion. And this squad was full of world class players (Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Viera, Wiltord, etc, but in the crucial moment they failed, both in the champions league (out without loosing a game), both in the premier league. Something is not ok in the dressing room around Wenger.

hold on one second, before wenger came at arsenal ,we finished in top 4 only 23 times out of 92 and under him we hv done it 14 out of 14 times…..its not our ultimate aim bt d fact is dat it is bcoz of him dat arsenal is presently one of d best clubs around d world….it is bcoz of him we talk about titles evry year….i know it hs been frustatin 6 years bt we nw need 2 stand together rather dan blame evry1…luk wat happend 2 liverpool wen rafa left dem nd evry1 knows dat we dont hv a keeny dalglish who wud revive our club if god forbids anythin goes wrong wid d ur requird new 1….nd by the way tell me a person in present day futbal who can replace him at d point of tym…luk dis guy hs admitted his mistake of dreaming dat a 40m pound worth frst 11 can win d league…now dat he hs admitted we shud stand by him coz evry1 knows dat he is a genious coz only a genious can win a league undefeated,go 49 unbeaten in all competitions nd win 3 doubles nd also mak a 40 m pound worth frst 11 be admired by d whole wrld fr its amazin footbal…..THERE IS ONLY 1 ARSENE WENGER nd i will support him till death coz if ders one who luvs d club more dan all of us its ARSENE WENGER!!!!

liar because of those he is now bent on destroying this team. Listen a good coach like fergie can win laurels even with these same boys. A coach that could not beat lowly birmingham after a six year waiting despite huge expectation all aroound the world. Frank rijkard played beatiful with barca and won things. He can do it if only that old arrogant man will just leave.

Wenger should have more experience player in is squred and stop buying cheap players that can not make any impact in the team. All asenal fans in the world are weary of not having any silverware since 2005. Wenger should learn from his mistake. The faith is not full again.

    Balls..in Arsene we RUST…

Joker – it seems suddenly he woke up yesterday…tart, he always knew Vermealan would be out for this season, yet his stubborness prevented from signing a good solid CB…We were all praying that Djorou & that Kos would cover for him – but they are raw materials & not finished products- it cost us the season…Just a few pounds more & we could have had Scwarzer who alone could ahve saved us at least 4/5 matches in Prem League where we let in some goals in the most stupid fashin…

Need we say more – Mr. Arse Wenger- pls leave & let fresh air come

I am more interested in getting the players we NEED rather than blaming Wenger now.

One question to Wenger, if Barca and Real still able to find room for improvement via purchasing players, who is Arsenal to say we are good enough with the current results?
