Wenger – We don’t really need a new centre-back….
Arsene Wenger seemed to say the other day that he was definitely going to be trying to buy a new centre-back for Arsenal this month, but now it seems that he has back-tracked, and has said on the official Arsenal site that he doesn’t really one after all!
But of course IF a top-class defender with Premiership experience, preferably already playing here, came on the market (for free I guess!) then he would POSSIBLY buy him. He is under the impression that Sebastien Squillaci will be returning to the side shortly, and he can promote Ignasi Miquel from the Youth team and he has Alex Song who can move back into defence as added cover.
Wenger said: “Ideally it would be better if they were adapted to English football,”
“If you need players now in January then you cannot wait three months before they can play. If the opportunity turns up we will fetch it but, if not, I believe we can cope.
“We always have people in mind and we check them out. We look everywhere. It’s difficult to find them at this period of the season but overall I feel at the moment we have so many games that it’s very important just to focus on the next one.
“We have solutions internally with Ignasi Miquel, with Alex Song who can play centre back and with Squillaci, who should come back very quickly.
“If we find somebody at the right level we will do it, if not we will continue like this.”
Oh well, at least we were all excited for like, a day!

Worst shout ever……were crying out for a CB, i dont know much about this young Spaniard but i doubt hes gonna win us the title…just get either Sakho, Cahill, Jagielka, Agger or my first choice Samba……..simples

Oooh yeah, we really need a CB! Squilaci is a piece of shit. my “vote” going to Gary Cahill. Mertesacker doesnt want to go, Vertongen is left footed, Agger will play in starting 11. I dont know anyting about Sakho and Samba. I know were they played but i didnt watch they playing. I hate this but i must to say that I am happy about injuries of Squilaci and Vermaelen, because Wenger wont buy CB…

this cannot possibly be true!…dont need a centre back????????!!!!!!!!!!!!! no no surely not…..no-one is that blind or stubborn,,,no he must know he needs a quality centre back….look when verm is fit and if he has cahill and djorou playing well…he could use the verm as a def midfielder…i think his mobility is good enough….or rotate him…in his case hes good enough to rotate …rotation is only useless if the players arent any good…such as the chuckle brothers at the back.
I am totally shocked at this statement,,,,if this IS true AW reminds me of “MR patchitup”…yknow the guy that never really sorts a problem out just patches it up and says “there that’ll do”. Cahill could win us the league…i think hes that good for us.

Squillacci is not an option, Wenger should use him as a counter weight for whoever he can bring in. Jaglieka or Cahill for Squillacci and the full transfer fee.

I’d prefer to think that we need to be in a
position to “excell”, not just “cope”. Coping is what we’ve been doing for the past few years….& sometimes not coping!!! However, there’s no guarantee that if you like a player that A) they’ll want to move to Arsenal, B) their club will let them move or, C) that we are willing to pay their transfer fee & wages. You can only buy what’s for sale!!! Personally, I’d like to see Ignasi Miquel given a couple of starts..we have to play play our youngsters sometime…& he may be better than anything on offer elsewhere.

What the hell about we have internal solutions, utter rubbish. The last time we tried that we knew what happened! Vermalen won’t probably play again until possibly March! Squillaci isn’t even a top defender, the lowest out of the four we have.
Just bring in an experienced centre back one that don’t cost a lot but has still got 2 years in him left. Someone like Emir Spahic would cost no more than 4 million as his 31 and his been a born leader very loud and vocally a very very communicative player on the pitch.
When Wenger talks like this it pisses me off so bad! Because I know what to expect;
Him putting Alex Song at the back and relying on Denilson for the central midfield role!!!
Just get a CENTRE BACK FOR F**K SAKE!!!

I think AW’s choice is very limited. If he is to buy, the player must come from the EPL. He cannot afford, in January, to buy from Europe, where the “buy” will take ages to bed in. The problem then, with players from the EPL, is that (a) managers with a chance of success in Cup, League or Europe don’t really want to sell and (b) prices tend to inflate when the needs of big Clubs like Arsenal become public knowledge.

that is nuts, in the sense that our only suitable (currently in good form) defensive midfielder is Alex Song, if he moves to the center of the defence then who would step up for the defensive midfield position denilson????? diaby???????

Shocking performance, if our defence cant handle a team that has lost 7 in 9 and conceded 7 to Chelsea only 4 days ago something is clearly wrong. The ball over the top had us on the back foot and scrambling all night. It was a horror show to watch. We need a proper defensive coach with the first team. Our Defence bar Chesney Hawkes is quite scary.
Arshavin must be on borrowed time despite his assists. He is a guy well and truely lost.
We actually need a striker more than a centreback. You can see why Bendtner is only a sub as when he starts he offers nothing. Chamakh is woeful, Walcott tries but cant do it on his own. he needs support. Cesc had a shocker but tried.
Wilshere was awful too. Eboue was soso, Gibbs thinks hes Messi. Why rest Nasri when we needed the away goal. RVP?????? Wenger is gambling with the only chance of Silverware…..Wasnt the Leeds game a wakeup call??? We cant take anyone for granted. Another Managerial lapse.
All to frequent nowadays.
p.s. Only joy I had was seeing Blackpool show some spirit and overcome a re-energised Liverpool. Why oh why cant our players show some desire?

This is laughable! Our defense were horrible last night while their (Ipswich) defense looked great against our poor attacking play. We need a quality centerback who has proved himself at the highest level.
Pay the money and get us a centerback who can impose himself on strikers and help us to be better at defending setpieces.

If AW failed to buy a defender it means he has decided not have Silverware this season. It’s surprising only one man is left to dictate the destiny of a club as Arsenal. Despite pleas from fans. Next month we are playing mighty Barca. with complete squad, with every department having good substitutes. Remember last season’s humiliation.
