Wenger – We got tired in the last half hour
Arsene Wenger saw his Arsenal team surrender a two goal lead in yesterdays Emirates Cup game against Boca, but put the collapse down to tiredness after the first hour of play.
Wenger said: “You never want to concede goals, but overall I do not give too much importance to that. What is important for us it to find a collective rhythm. When we could we managed to play at a good pace for 60 minutes, after it was much more difficult. It was expected, we came back from a training camp in Germany with heavy work and I knew that the second half would be much more difficult.
“Boca Juniors are a good team and we got caught counter-attacking when were 2-0 up and we tried to build up the game, but when you are tired you miss some passes and were a bit more under threat.”
The second half defence consisted of Koscielny and Squillaci, flanked by Jenkinson and Traore, and they looked all at sea when conceding two goals in just three minutes. There was no sign of Vermaelen in the squad but hopefully he will be playing in todays game against the New York Red Bulls….

Koscielny got out for Squillaci, it was Squillaci and Djorou. Koscielny was solid at the back yesterday and showed some great passes.

for those of you worrying about our defense, just take comfort in knowing that, that is our worst possible centreback pairing, this is as bad as it gets in terms of center back pairings, we still have bartley, vermealen, koscielny and potentially jagielka. just think all of these guys would have to get injured before djourou and squillaci can get paired together in our first team defense, which is very very unlikely, but then again with arsenal’s luck you never know.

@timi. Give who a chance to develop? Development my foot. Djourou will only develop as a back up and possibly playing with a better center. At least koscielny showed him how to deal with such ball in d first half. I’m not making much fuss about our defence though. Its just one of those ‘one offs’ and i bet it wont be seen consistently.

As far as I am concerned Arsenal only has 3 defenders of the high standards that this club should be aiming at. vermelaen,gibbs,Sagna, .all the others should be loaned and sold..I am getting so fed up waiting for this team to produce. We all know about the Russian submarine defense we have. What I’m more disturbed about is two aspects.
1. Zonal marking at set pieces.
It doesn’t work and we cannot master it.
2. Mindless passing rather than incisive attacking and shooting.
It means we have countless wasted opportunities to shoot in each game. This could prove as costly as the mistakes by seaman djourou and seaman squillaci.
P.s. Sagnas crossing is still as bad as ever.

Oh I have Been proved right. Against a useless red bulls side we coasted again. The only urgency was when red bulls scored. No cutting edge at all. Apart from RvP, we had no world class players (wilshere hasn’t shown on biggest stage yet). Shocking yet again. We need more than just a cb. We need a finisher and a new philosophy. Tippy tappy is getting us nowhere.

We seriously need a CB and a versatile finisher. We only got RVP. We need another player who could do like RVP does. Juan Mata is a really good signing and Phil jagielka could be a great additional for our defense. Another common mistake in the defense area. Really disappointing. We need player like Thierry Henry to back up RVP. we need player like Patrick Viera to help more in defense. Please wenger, do something about it.

I was at the game. Great goals and build up. But we started faffing around at 2-0 up having completely dominated.
Goal no. 2 had me thinking I had got value or money. That goal alone was worth the trip. But then the usual bollox set in.

No No No….getting tired in the second half when you have at least six substitutes…did he really say this? Jack Wilshire said it, Nasri has indicated it and I am sure Fabregas has said it numerous times…we lack overall quality. The defending is naive and sometimes just atrocious. Wenger has no plan B and Pat Rice appears not to have any imput when things get tough. Far too many fans are blaming the referees..we should have had two penalties..so what if we were three up we would still have conceded the lead. There has been a gradual decline in quality within the squad and more sadly the Arsenal spirit. We are in for a very rocky ride this year. I can still recall the times when Highbury nearly emptied during a time when the team under achieved forcing the board to buy. I get a similar feeling about this lot.
