Wenger – We had a bad start but were unlucky in the end

Posted on May 16, 2011 by admin

Arsene Wenger saw his team lose yet again to a mid-table side and put the important third place in the Premiership in jeopardy. Aston Villa scored two goals through Darren Bent in the first 15 minutes as Arsenal seemed to play with fear from the beginning, but they started playing too late.

Wenger thinks that the Gunner were unlucky not to win the game in the end. He said: “It’s very disappointing because we were caught on a very bad start. After that we became stronger as the game went on and we were a bit unlucky on top of that. So we come out of the game very disappointed. We dropped three points today which could cost us the automatic qualification for the Champions League.”

“We were punished because we went into the game too tentative. We were not dominant enough in anything we did and we were on the back foot at the start. After that we battled to get back into the game but we were a bit unlucky. I feel we had a penalty, a goal that I have not seen cancelled often away from home. Overall of course we are frustrated and I am frustrated by the performance.

“We have been hit very hard by bad results and you could see that at the start of the game, we suffered a little bit. But we have to rise above that and overall you could see we were a bit nervous defensively. Once we were in the game we looked comfortable but it was too late.”

With just two wins in the last 12 games, Arsenal have well and truly plummeted from being possible champions to now just hoping that they don’t have to play in the Champions League Qualifiers next season.

The fans howed their displeasure at the end by either leaving early or by booing the players when they did their end of season “lap of honour”. Wenger accepts that the supporters have a right to let the players know how they feel. He concluded: “It was our job to thank the fans and you never have to be embarrassed when you do your job. It was not a tour of glory, of course. But I think, no matter what happens, you have to respect your fans for turning up for the whole season. It is not an ego trip, it is a respect trip for the fans.”

“You have to accept that [many fans left the ground early] and you have to thank those who are still in the stand. What is important is that this Club has values and respects those values. I feel fortunate that for 15 years we have played with full stands so when people are not happy they can show it. We are in a job where you have to please people and if they are not happy, we have to accept that.”

We are used to seeing Arsenal falter towards the end of the season, but this year the collapse has been of spectacular proportions. Who would bet on Arsene Wenger’s team winning away at Fulham next week?

Quite surprisingly, i wasnt surprised after the defeat. It seems long ago that a win at home was considered a right for us. Well done prof, now Bayern gonna knock us out in the qualification round and the 4th place finish will mean f*ck all(once again).

we NEED a players like Gervinho and Hazard, people need to stop thinking that we are only lacking in defence, and Wengers young flops need to go like denilson and diaby, we need a commanding midfielder like De Rossi, if i had a choice, i would pic Nasri and De Rossi for midfield, sell Fabregas.

i was also hopping arsenal would loose. So AW and the board could see something is really wrong with the team.

I also believe a loss next week would be good for the club in the long run. Coz i don’t want AW to come and say we had a bit of a rough time and decisions did not go our way but u can see the in the last game we have the needed quality. So Plz loose the last game too and get ur tactics and signings right this summer. So we can do well next season.

Wenger’s hardheadedness is costing us a lot. I feel we have a good team but we need to mix up with experience and the right players. Van persie is a good player but he is better when playing behind a strong striker. And we need to get someone like Drogba. Strong and can hold the ball for Van Persie to come in and score.

I wish there were still up to 5 matches to the end of the season and assuredly arsenal wouldn’t be in the top 6. The next season will reveal the utteruselessness of wenger’s style of management. He won’t qualify for the next group stage of the CL. He will NOT buy one of the players most fans believe can lift arsenal. He will not resign. The current good players in the team will leave this time out of frustration. More sorrow await all who trust that wenger can still change arsenal for good. My own unhappiness is that nomatter what happens wenger can never get a sack so I have counselled myself: never worry for arsenal. I guess this might do you good also.

well it’s been a couple of weeks now so it’s time for ” we were unlucky ” crap talk now … wenger should trow some money at some serious transfers not water bottles ,he’s so pathetic when he does that ,he’s such a fake elvis ,oh oh oh look at me i am trowing a water bottle … until this shit ends i am not stepping into the Emirates again and i am not spending another penny that goes fake elvis’s way …we are selling our best players and guess what the tickets are going up ..wtf is that ? why ? well the official song is that we need to keep up with the other clubs ,give me a fu.cking break … if this year we could not win the title ,when united and chelsea were heavily inconsistent ,we will never win it…not with this bunch of clowns

We all know what the problem is – Defence. We were unlucky in this game and we had the chances to win. I am going to annoy some but Wenger has done well with this squad this season because this squad is no Barcelona – not even close. If he had made some crucial signings then we could of gone further and Wenger has to take some responsibility. I just hope that the players that he wants to bring in are available otherwise Wenger will not just buy them for the sake of it and we could end next season with the same result but, I am glad he is under pressure and I would be surprised if doesn’t make at least one high profile signing.
