Wenger: We regret losing to Fulham – We panicked!
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger watched the Gunners lose to Fulham last week after being 1-0 up with just six minutes to go, and as all the other top teams also dropped points over the Christmas period he was asked if it was just one of those “bad days at the office” that everyone has now and again.
Chelsea lost to Aston Villa, Man Utd were destroyed by Newcastle and Man City lost at Sunderland, but Wenger thinks that the Fulham match was totally different, as Arsenal should have won the game.
He said: “I felt when we were down to 10 men we became too nervous and panicked a little bit in some situations where there was no reason to.”
“In the end we got caught on unusual mistakes for us and you are always highly disappointed when you have produced the needed performance. We led 1-0 after 84 minutes and then lost the game. Of course when you are a team like Arsenal, you cannot be happy with that.”
“If we had lost the game and deserved it completely, you could say ‘OK’,” he said. “But that was a game that was winnable for us.
“Man United lost at Newcastle on Wednesday night and it was quite a logical score. Then you could say ‘OK you had a bad day, it can happen to anybody in the league’. But we have lost a game we should have won and that’s where we have hope and regrets.
“It’s hope because we know we have the potential to do very well and regrets because in this game we know we did not get the result we could have got.”
The defeat could not have come at a worst time as Arsenal had just moved back into the top four and it increased the gap from Man City back to a massive 12 points, which is probably just a little too much at this stage of the season.
And Wenger now has to hope that Chelsea drop points again for Arsenal to return to the Champions League places…..

The offense looks very lame lately scoring only 6 goals in the last six games. And I think scoring has been a problem all through out the season. Whats the point of having the ball in our possession when we can’t capitalize from that?
I dont know…dont want to speak against the player or the manager as if they dont want to win games but AFC is not the feared football club as it has been in the past…

Leaking defence, no striker to assist RVP, not enough firepower in midfield. Where to now? Aw stated that there will no little movement in Jan window, as not much money around to buy and only top wealthy clubs will be able to do so. What are we? No debt cash left from July transfer window and backing financially from Kroenke!Make the serious bids- Hazard, Podolski, Moussa Sow,Samba, Cissoko, come on AW do the business. Champs league looks like it could slip away.

no money?…..does any fan believe this crap about finances?….weve made profits from transfers for the past 2 or 3 seasons….we must have surplus of 50 million.
the board and wenger choose not to spend…or at least they choose to make profit. Kroenke operates all his teams this way and apparently the american teams he owns/part owns win nothing as well.
I do not like to speculate about the future of arsenal because it does look bleak.
Van persie will be away from arsenal next season..that seems obvious. Wenger (if he stays!) will not replace him with a great striker, instead opting to buy a french unknown and giving oxo and perhaps miyachi a starting berth.
Wenger will claim we have these as new signings.
Our club is going nowhere trophy-wise…dont be surprised if leeds beat us with RVP not playing

we rgrets for 7 yrs. we shud win mny stuff bt evrythng is the board fault.cus this is also happen after dein left.even with these trio in the board they dnt hv any influence at all. dnt buy anythng from the club.nt looking forward to the match too.cus nothing nterested bt i realy wna see the king henry back thats all. the formation wud remain the same n i wud predict this lineup. n henry i wud think at the bench n cme at the scond half.i dnt think wenger wud start him.

I blame the loss against Fulham on the players and Wenger. The ref is just the joker in the pack.
First of all, in order to score, in other words our striker (would love to be able to make that a plural) needs to get the ball, which wasn’t happening. Our midfield was the problem, between Ramsey and Arteta there is no real urgency. Arteta is very one paced and all he does is pass sideways and occasionally forward to players that are marked. He is consistent but doesn’t do anything spectacular. Then Ramsey tries, but he is slow and too often loses possession of the ball. Also, our wingers need to assist our strikers. Walcott had a terrible game, so RvP had nothing to work with. Gervinho was the only one who looked slightly dangerous. He puts himself in such great positions, but can’t finish.
These are the types of players Arsenal have. Our midfield, except for Song, just cannot cut it. I cannot wait for Jack to return to add that spark we are missing. The thing I like about Jack is he will run at players, draw them to him and make quick and calculated one-two passes. Perfect for teams that are tight down the middle. He looks dangerous. Where as Arteta just really fanny’s about in the midfield.
I understand players do have bad days too, but we have seen plenty of Ramsey and Arteta and they are just average. In a game like that, they should have been playing like their lives depended on it. But that was not the case.
The the substitutions Wenger made were the cherry on top. If he knew they were trying for Djoure to get sent off, why not sub him when he had a yellow? We had Miquel sitting on the bench too, but he had to bring Squillaci on? He cost us the last goal. And Djoure did end up getting sent off. Bad in game decisions there by Le Prof. Something I’m not being too surprised about anymore. Then he goes and blames the ref, instead of just being a real MANager and admitting his side were sh*t.
It looks like Wenger and the board are happy to settle for ‘just above’ mediocrity, as long as we can just make it into the top 4, they will gain extra profit and still have that reputation of training up superstars. If Arsenal do not end up in the top 4, and slide into mediocrity, it is a serious problem. We are looking at a less attractive club, less sales on merch, no world class players wanting to play for us. To get back to the top will require a lot more effort and a hell of a lot more money. In the end, financial stability will crumble because lets face it, us supporters are the bread and butter of Arsenal. There are die-hard Arsenal fans who will support the club even if we get relegated. Those are most likely the fans in London itself and around England. But most of Arsenals fans are overseas. These fans are not as loyal and if Arsenal ever do become mediocre, (I’m talking for a few seasons here) those fans will rather support a team who is winning. I see it my country. The number of Man City fans that have sprung up is ridiculous, just because they are winning. The same with United, their foreign revenue is what keeps that club going.
The board and Wenger need to seriously consider this. Arsenal cannot afford a slip into 2 or 3 stars.

I agree that us fans don’t know all the details as to why David Dein left the club. But if AW is as shrewd and clever as you say he is how come we have not bought one world class player since Dein left?

Most of them sold for a massive profit and all have at least one trophy to show playing for AFC.

Leeds fan here. I prefer Arsenal to any other team and hate watching them go into a 1-0 lead and sit back. No wonder they panic when teams snatch 2nd half equalisers. Wolves, Blackburn, Fulham home and away, Spurs were not the kind of opponents you sit back after taking a lead. This is where a dozen points were lost in winnable games. Arsenal need a robust striker like YAKUBU or Demba Ba and relegate Walcott to the bench.

The bottom line is our team is just not good enough to play well every game. We can play well at times but our lack of creativity is really worrying me. We just don’t have that special player in creative midfield. Last year we had 3 great players (Fab, Nasri and Jack) who could create but with Jack out we have none right now. Robin can’t win it for us every time and if he wasn’t playing as great as he is, we would be pretty average. It hurts me to say that but that’s the way it is.

Absolutely agree with team. That is the team I would be satisfied with, except for the selling of Rosicky who I think can still be a very useful player for us.
I would be happy to see Podolski sign, and I think he’s jump at the chance to. And as I don’t believe we’ll be able to sign the likes of Hazard or Götze, I think the amazingly promising youngsters will get more playing time. I would not be disappointed at all to see Ryo and The Ox on either flank supporting Robin. Every time they play they impress. This would give the repeatedly under performing Gervinho and Walcott something to think about.
I also wouldn’t mind seeing Arséne try a 4-4-2 with Park playing along side Robin, or maybe even Walcott up there which would cheer him up. But please stop playing Marouane as he looks as though he’s never played before. Loan him out, and if he doesn’t get his act together, sell him next year.
