Wenger – We were completely dominant, but Chelsea are good at fouling!
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his team completely dominated the match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday, but the league leaders defended well and got two breakaway goals to win the game.
He was quite pleased with his team’s peformance despite the defeat, and considers their play a vast improvement on last weeks defeat to Man Utd.
“I am completely happy with our performance and the spirit we have shown.” Wenger said. “For me, as much as we didn’t turn up against Manchester United, today we had the expected performance. We were still a bit uncertain at the start of the game. When you went into it we were completely dominant. That’s how I explain that we conceded the first corner. Incidentally I would like to check if before the corner it was a free-kick for Chelsea, I would like to see that.
“I always thought we would come back, I always had that feeling today. But you have to give them credit, they defended very well, they are very experienced at the back. They make the foul at the right time when they are caught on the counter-attack. The little push with the shirt, it is not enough to get a yellow card. They have a lot of tricks of a very experienced team and they do that very well. Overall we tried very hard today and the team gave absolutely everything. Sometimes when you lose you have to acknowledge that with your team.”
“Today I give credit to Chelsea for their defending. They had always the guy who came back in the box. They didn’t make silly mistakes. They have fantastic defenders and I believe many times they were out of position and managed to get back, especially one situation with Nasri in the second half and another with Bendtner.”
Now Arsenal are nine points behind Chelsea in the race for the title, but he refuses to give up on the possibility of catching up with them once again.
“I feel that we are not in the best position but we will not give up. We were a bit unfortunate as well in the same period to play Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool on the trot. If you lose one game if is very difficult with the psychological implications for the next game. I believe that is a little bit of a disadvantage.”
Wenger – England call-up made Walcott insecure
Wenger – Don’t blame Almunia!
Chamakh – I choose Arsenal
Redknapp – Tottenham could finish above Arsenal
Wenger – Third place is not a disaster

What is the need of dominating ur opponent in a match without winning it?Mr wenger don’t you know that the most important thing is for u to win at chelsea not to dominate the match for God’s sake. For wenger to be happy with that simply means that he has ran out of ideas.sorry my fellow fans we have lost it all not untill wenger improves/strenghtens his team or he quits and try his fallen ideas/policies somewhere else.
i had the fortune to miss watching this match but from other matches chelsea and especially united do seem to get away with fouls that everyone else gets booked for.
1. We dominated the game
2. Chelsea are clever at fouling.
3. Chelsea’s average age is 29 as compared to Arsenal’s 23.
These alleged remarks of AW do no good. Of late we have been sloppy in defence and lightweight in attack. We can only soldier on as best we can until the next buying window…..roll on.
Loosers!!!!!!!! keep on ranting.
Unfortunately what Arsene calls fouling, the rest of the world call football. We all know Wenger wants football to be a 100% non-contact sport so his bunch of puny kids might be able to sustain a challenge, or even threaten to win a game against more physical teams.
Being physical is not a problem, nor is it against the rules as long as no violent conduct is involved. Unfortunately since Vieira and Keown stopped punching and kicking players all over the pitch and Wenger has failed miserabl;y to replace them, he now believes everybody should dance to his tune!
Well guess what Arsene, your theology is just that, yours. We do not have to play to your rules but the FA’s. Pretty passing is great if you have a plan B, like us against Barca last year, you have to adapt and Wengers Arsenal CANNOT.
Don’t get me wrong he is one of the greats in world management but also has a bit much megalomania sneaking in, God complex even.
I look forward to him continuing to hamper Arsenals chances of success with his one dimensional passing circus.
soMe very good comments here all of which ring very true.
I was waiting for the excuse after the game and behold We got the fouling comment.
last week at villa it was that they dont play the right style.Weak lame excuses hidig the fact that we are not good enough for a title chalenge and as ive said before give credit to many of the players who are punching above their weight.I predicted 4 points from these 4 hard games…and unless we beat livrpool, it will be 2 or 1.
REALLY DOESNT THAT TELL YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.
joe – u do understand football, its true the style of play is predicatable & experienced teams will catch you on the counter, much like the invicbles of 04. Wenger your time is up unless something drastic happens with these useless youngsters- CESC, NASRI, DIABY, SONG, VERM, SAGNA.the rest are not gunners!! u sset high standards 98-04. Now you stumbling Wenger, feeding us lies and F8king with the supporters!!! OUT WITH WENGER UNLESS HE DELIVERS UCL!!!!!
It is not a question fouling being part of the game. The question is, ‘is it worth having Laws if they are not implemented?’. The Laws state that contact with the player before contact with the ball is a foul…. that makes almost every ‘use of the hand’ a foul.
Arsene is not wrong with wanting a skillful game with fairness on all sides. Otherwise it is going to be a game of monsters like American football with wealthy monsters owning clubs and big pockets watching games.
The question of time wasting and ’shielding the ball’ also comes into question. In my view shielding the ball should be deemed as having played it. So when a player shields the ball towards his goal line, it should be a corner. It will make for a better game.
not sure about shielding being a corner but you see players 2 or 3 yards from ball blocking off and holding an attacker to stop them getting to it. it seems that there is no such thing as obstruction anymore
To the author of this rag: You are a stupid sensationalist lying *******.
Goal scorer!!!Get me some who will get 25 league goals a year!!PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus Damian.
And you are rude disgusting twat that I don’t want reading my blog. Are you saying that Wenger DIDN’T say it and I just made it up?
Go over to the official Arsenal website if you don’t believe me. But don’t come back to my site.
I think Arsene puts too much emphasis on the midfield stats beleiving if you control that you should win the game.If that was the case we would be untouchable in the league due to our quality in midfield. The sad fact is we do not win the big games because our defence and attack are not of the same level.
