Wenger – We were outstanding, but our quality is not enough
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his team played well enough to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday, but they lost simply because they didn’t score with the chances they were given.
He said after the game: “I just think we have made a demonstration that you can play well and lose the game. The game should have been over before we started it – we had the first two chances in the first minute and I don’t know how we managed to miss the header from six yards. At that level you get punished.
“I think we were a bit unfortunate as well because the first goal was a foul on Song from Ramieres – 100 per cent foul. After that we made a mistake that should not happen at the near post and Drogba took advantage of it. After the second half it was one-way traffic and in the last 10 to 15 minutes Chelsea were counter-attacking. But we missed too many chances at that level and in the final third you need to be more clinical offensively and defensively. We had a great team performance and great energy.
“You could see that Chelsea finished with cramps because they had to run a lot, so I give credit to my team. But we have to be more clinical to win titles – we can’t lose a game like that.”
“Their strikers were more clinical than ours and that made the difference because apart from that I believe Chelsea suffered a lot today. They were on the ropes for long periods in the game.”
“We had the chances today. When you have the chances we have today you need to score.”
“I feel sorry for my team because they had an outstanding attitude and an outstanding display. You can only congratulate them for that attitude. I feel sorry for the fact that they have not been rewarded but we live in a realistic world and when you don’t score and don’t take your chances then you don’t win big games.”
“There are many positives from the game because we dominated this game quite surprisingly in my opinion. We go home with zero points and if you look at the way we threw two points away at Sunderland last week and this week you see that despite our quality that is not enough.”
So Arsenal find themselves seven points behind the leaders after seven games and another mountain to climb. The Gunners next game is a must-win at home to Birmingham, and then their is another massive test away at Manchester City……

i couldn’t agree more. i thought Arsenal played really well, and in stamford bridge too! without fabregas! they just didn’t finish the chances well enough, and we do have to admit that chelsea’s defense is very solid. but great display from Arsenal. let’s get them back in the Emirates!

Its a bittersweet feelin cz that was one of our best perfomances aganist a top 4 team in a long tym.we completely swallowed chelsea’s midfield.they were more clinical(dnt forget anelka n essien missd one on one’s).

Moreover, Drogba was nullified through most of the game and Chelsea’s best attacking chances came through Malouda and especially Anelka on the counter-attack (that’s where both goals came from).
As I posted earlier, I’d have rather seen Rosicky start than Diaby: I thought Arsenal controlled the middle of the pitch much better, and created more chances, after the substitution. Chamakh was fantastic, but Arshavin simply didn’t bring anything to the table and I can see him dropping to the bench when Walcott or van Persie return.
It was a good game, but it was a 2008 good game: plenty of construction, but too few on-target chances created. I think this team could beat any of the other 18 in the Premier League this year.
The officiating was terribly lax. I think the assistants called more fouls than the referee. Arsenal were more guilty of bad tackles, and it seemed like the players knew that this referee would ignore most of their fouls.

We were POOR in front of goal.. end of. No point playing well, not getting the ball in the back of the net and letting them take the 3 points.

ARSENAL HAS PLAYED ALL AWAY GAMES WITH ALOT OF TACTS THE TEAM PLAYED WITH ALOT OF DETERMINATION HOWEVER LUCK ALSO PLAYS ITS ROLE IN FOOTBALL,DROGBA’S GOAL WAS TYPICAL LUCK.
THE LOSE WITH STRENGTHEN THE TEAM AS THEY PREPARE TO THEIR STARS BACK(RVP.FAB,VAMALEEN,BENTNER,WALCOT)

Time to drop Arshavin and let him warm the bench for a while as he doesn,t seem to be motivated enough, play him only in CL games where he has the time and space to do what he can,run at defences and score goals. The Premiership is to rough for his small stature ?

You are so crazy that the comments on here agree with Wenger. It is his way of defending a team that has not improved. Arsenal are bloody useless under him like they have been season after season. Bollocks Chelsea played the same way they did for the past few years destroying us. Wenger says we played well but lost! Like West Brom or the draw at Sunderland. Wenger is a sore loser and makes excuses that most fans drool over for food for comfort. Wenger is useless and has barely improved our squad. I said we lost experienced players who were pretty average and replaced them like for like. Eduardo is not better or worse than Chamack and I bet Dudu may have converted one of the many the chances the lightweight Morrocon could muster. Is Squillaci Silvestre in disguise. He fits the Wenger mould for a CB french, over 30, over the hill and pretty average. Koscienlny is worse than the Gallas all day long. Vermaelen needs a great partner like Puyol, Mertesacker, Cahill, Hangeland. someone pyhsical and a no nonsense centre half. Crying out for a keeper and yet he only went after a 38 year old decrepid Austrailian. There are 50 keepers better than what we have. Song is good but nowhere near an Essien quality like Melo or someone hard and strong. There are no natural finishers at Arsenal other than RVP but he only plays 10 games a year. We need a Drogba. Man U have Rooney. Man City have Tevez. Spurs have a good finisher in Defoe. Liverpool have Torres although he is having a torrid time. Wenger I watched the same performance displayed for the past 2 years. Yes they played well with possession but Chelsea can defend all day long before hitting us on the counter or a set piece. Big players take chances we have no real big players who do not become injury prone. I hope Wenger bows out this season after another misreble display but with more money for the greedy shareholders. You guys are bloody stupid to listen to this acclaimed genius. Excuses were the same this year as the year before. Tell something new wenger like you keep faith in an injury prone squad that has no defensive balance aided by a prolific striker! I hate Wenger for how he has had a chance to recitify it this summer and yet has started off just as I always state in my posts!!

i never read kemps remarks because he a spud who love winding this blog up .
but as i said in the blog (Schwarzer– I still want to join Arsenal in January)
it the fact we have players not wanting to play for arsenal that costing us games (the sick note brigade)
if wenger got one problem in how he manages arsenal it is he lets players like van persie and walcot to stay at arsenal instead of letting them go, and bringing players who want to play everygame not go missing faigning injuries, i not like adeybour but give him his due he always wants to play, look how he moaning at city, i think van persie would love it at city ,as sitting in the stand seems to appeal to him .

ina all truth i do think we miss kolo and adebayor ecause 4 all that has been said it seems arsenal(kemp) needs a clinical strikr like adebawhore…n a solid cb like kolo!!!well at least when those guys were here we didint get creamed 3-0,2-0,2-0…and in all honest truth if we face a barca o madrid we myt lose even 4-0!!!so this will just be one of those other seasons!!!well AT LEAST THE BOARD WILL BE PLEASED COZ THE MONEY KEEPS FLOWING IN AS LONG AS WE MAKE THE FOURTH SLOT!!!!

adam, let’s not get emotional. there were some good and bad points from your above statement.
i agree with you regarding the goalkeeping situation. but regarding koscielny and squillaci, not quite. we all know squillaci’s main purpose was to provide experience and deal with high balls. if you’re so critical of him now, i’ll ask you how many headed goals had the team conceded since his arrival? i agree that he could make some mistakes now and then but seriously, judging from last night’s performance on how they the backline contained chelsea’s attack in particular drogba if compared to previous seasons, job well done squillaci.
koscielny’s assessment is a bit out of context. your judgement is based on emotions. why don’t you give him a few more games to justify wenger’s decision?
and regarding chamakh, you remember a particular adebayor when he’s just starting out at arsenal? and to know that chamakh didn’t have the luxury of a introduction season like he did. chamakh got thrust into the limelight leading the attack by his own. and i must say he’d done a pretty good job till now. but i must say his first touches and lay offs need a wee bit more work.
and now on to song….erm we’re you seeing a different player last night? he was biting the heels of everyone last night. and he was certainly not afraid to mix it up with the likes of drogba and essien. but i am still not sure why did wenger put him ahead of wilshere in midfield.
you’re always focusing on the negative things. why aren’t you focusing on our future biggest star? wilshere? mark my words guys, one day, wilshere will be just like fabregas if not better. hold on to him wenger and develop him carefully.
in wenger we trust, in arsenal we believe.

Haven’t we heard the “unlucky” “take our chances” routine before? I am sick of excuses. I really hope we can finish at least 4th but that is all we can hope for. It’s not being pessimistic, it’s being realistic. We are simply not able to compete with the best when we have so many injuries. Our squad is not deep enough and to see our CBs get muscled out as they did and do, makes me wonder why AW didn’t go for a Cahill or someone over 70kgs. As we’ve said before, compare the strength of Drogba, Terry, Alex, Rooney etc etc. I like Chamayk, but can someone give him a good feed.

There was no excuse for West Brom. The only player who showed any guts was Nasri. We could have been Liverpool of late the way we played in the first half of that match. I do trust in wenger for the most oart but it can get bloody hard at times when he just is so bloody minded with things like Goalies. We lose matches we should win against the likes of WBA, More efficiency in front of goal against the big teams or we lose those too so we cannot afford to have matches lost to useless/careless keepers as well. I wanna win something and can;t see how if we don;t fix the basics. Yes there are good things but we do need a Drogba type..

Wenger – We were outstanding, but our quality is not enough
basically what i said before the match and was accused of being an idiot on here by the mindless ‘wengerites’…
wenger can only go as far as he has stubbornly refusing to spend money …. another record profitable year by the arsenal and lack of team reinvestment of those funds is the SUM of the situation.
wenger should be on the Board, we need a younger chap with less french baggage / arrogance ! its obvious to see the difference between drogba and our impotent attack… for those of you insulting me before the match, perhaps you can see it now? and even if we had drogba wenger would insist he pass it into the net not shoot. sheer bloody mindedness.
until then…. we will have the same conversation (as we have had for the last four seasons) for the next four seasons.
wenger should be on the Board, we need a younger chap with less french baggage imho.

To start I know we where missing Fabregas. But overall we dont have enough top class players. Fabregas is top class and in my opinion Van Persie Arshavin and Vermaelen are very good. The rest are good players but no one yesterday would have really scared the chelsea fans like Drogba does. Same with Rooney and Torres when he is fit.
We need 3 or 4 big money signings. Honestly I believe we should go for both Reina and Torres. We are defently missing quality and it showed!! There is no way in hell we could defend the way Chelsea did and everyone knows we were not good enough in front of goal.

I thought we played really well for long periods yesterday but again we were caught with a sucker punch by yet again the Drog!!!! and the second goal well you could of had 3 keepers in there and they would not have saved that shot!!!!!

agree with aiman toreq.
at least adam kemp improved in his views.
i do think arsenal played like incomplete real madrid. what we r seeing is how arsenal could stand without any stars! im sure AW realize this. he will rectify. coz its not only me who would want a win.
n i think fabianski is better than almunia. period.

Mr Wenger said it himself we haven’t got the Quality.
Our players are just not good enough for the likes of Chelsea / Man Utd or Man City. The two new defenders were lost against the likes of Drogba a quality player.I you spend small money you get OK players but no quality.Song
had a bad game again he lost the ball to Ramieras for the first goal, then the wall didn’t stand up for the second.
Mr Wenger tells us we were unfortunate and not clinical enough. .I say NO and I hate to say it Mr Wenger we suffered because Chelsea were outstanding in defence and clinical in taken their chances. Buy some Quality Players
starting with a goalkeeper, and stop looking for freebees or
kids for the future. We want some Titles NOW>

I like Vengar’s game set-p’s the way he organizes the team and all that, even the fact that he always defends the players. But he like any other human being has one weakness. Separating importance from urgency. Its important for arsenal to beat any team with ball possession but its very urgent that we score goals and beat teams like Chelsea. Its time we buy at least two good, expensive, experienced and serious strikers,a solid midfielder and a brilliant defender. And most importantly to react to changes that are created by other teams ,like when their are down with one key player, thats the time we need to do the right replacement to be in control. And please please do not separate Risicky from Nasri under no circumstance.

Adam kamp what a great post!! @ all the pro wenger pricks who seem to be brain washed, in this world you got winners and losers, Adam, myself, gunnersfan and sum others are all winners!! We are very passionate about our club!! We can see that mr arse wenger is over the hill and his main goal to make money for the greedy board members, he dose not care for where the club ends up, you can see that from the signings he’s made and the lack of signings he’s made over the past 5 years. Since we lost david dein its been all down hill, he was a fan like Adam and myself, his best interest was the club. Bring back dein!! HATE WENGER LOVE ARSENAL.
