Wenger - a sickening result!

Wenger - a sickening result!

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger bemoaned his teams lack of finishing yesterday, which allowed a resilient West Ham team to fight their way back into the game after Arsenal had taken a two-goal lead in the first half.

Wenger admitted that he didn’t think that the game was over at the break. He said: “It is very frustrating. West Ham did fight until the final second of the game and I never had the feeling that the game was won, even if we were completely in control because I saw the attitude of West Ham, they were not giving up.

You know that if you make a mistake “you will be under pressure and the crowd got behind the referee’s decision and then it’s always difficult away from home.

“It is a major missed opportunity of course. In our job you don’t have the luxury to miss opportunities.

“You need to get points when you deserve to get points and sometimes when you don’t deserve to get the points.

“We complicated the game a little bit. We had five or six chances in the second half where we missed the final ball. That’s where we have to learn.”

“We had crosses in the second half in situations where we missed the final ball because we played it too late and we have to learn that. In the second half we got four of five crosses through but not one arrived.

”

“We have to keep the positives today. We played well and we are a strong team, and we want to learn of course to finish these games off. That is basically the most important lesson of the day.”

That is now two games in a row that Arsenal have let a lead slip away towards the end of the game. If they are truly to be trophy contenders this season, then they had better learn that lesson very fast.

I am very annoyed. However the good thing to come out of this was the fact that I noticed what the problem is. The problem is that the pace of our game is very slow away from home. At home we play quicker due to the fans cheering the team on plus the crowd would turn against the team if they played at the pace we play away. The problem with playing so slowly is that it makes it difficult to get behind teams so we create less. It was interesting the team upped the pace when we got to 2-2 which is saying something about the mindset of this team which is very poor. Winning teams do not do what we did yesterday.
