West Ham vs Arsenal preview, line-up and score prediction by KJ
The last month has been high octane with games against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. However, starting today, Arsenal will finally have a run of games against lower opposition. This starts at Upton Park against newly promoted West Ham Utd.
Although WHU have just been promoted, they’ve made big name signings in Jarvis, Diame, Carroll etc. meaning that they will definitely not be a walk in the park. The boys will have to dig deep to get a result today.
Allardyce will set up his team to be extremely hard to break down as well as resorting to long balls as a viable outlet when possible. However, he has also set up his team very well technically and they can play to foot when needed. That’s the most vital feature that Wenger should not overlook. If we focus on the aerial threat, we could be exploited on the ground.
This game will be won or loss by the form of our goalkeeper, Vito Mannone. I recently wrote an article on why I’m not very happy with his current performances. I really struggle seeing us getting sufficient results with him in goal. However, I’d love to be proven wrong.

I obviously want to see Giroud start as I feel he’s ready to start games for us. This would of course shift Gervinho out wide but I’m confident that the Ivorian will thrive in a supporting role.
It’s going to be a difficult match but if we remain concentrated, I can see us scraping a 2-1 win.

K so first half, we are the better side but our set piece defending is still does not inspire very much confidence. Also, how can we still not cross the ball in well? It boggles my mind how many times we have a break on the wing but can’t get the ball to the center forward

Its heart breaking when we start the first 20 mins playing great. Posession, slick passing, front foot. Then to conceed so cheaply. Still though we kept our heads up and got one back. DIAME should’ve been sent off. I reckon we will scrape it. 1-2 to the ARSENAL!!

Pretty classic Arsenal. We complitely dominate though lacking the final ball and opponent scores from the only attack they get. Huge mistake by Ramsey letting his man so easily past him.
Great goal by Giroud and even better deliverance by Podolski. Giroud looks hungry!
What we learned about first half:
1. Aaron Ramsey kills our every attack. If it’s misplaced pass or killing momentum, the result always leads to attack going nowhere.
2. Gibbs’ crosses are now at the level of Clichy. Every attacker we have runs middle when Gibbs’ crosses go to back post. He needs to step up at this.
3. Our defence needs to start winning headers. Mertesacker should at least once or twice win Donkey Carroll at aerial battles.
4. Jenkinson looks superior. He is unbelivably fast and confident with ball. Hope they Arsenal will use his flank, rather than Gibbs’.
5. The referee is f’n lost. Diame should have been booked on challenge against Arteta but he didn’t because he already had one yellow (from celebrating?). But Gervinho did get yellow? Ref get it together.
Our attacks looked good until the final pass. And we need to be more aggressive at defence. Look at Mertesacker: he isn’t afraid to slidetackle inside the box.

I’m so happy for OG12 what a goal, AW should talk to the boys to defend well those set pieces bcos WHU is their only weapon otherwise the boys should just keep on pressing them we will score more goals in the 2nd half, I’m happy for Giriod!!!

Can someone please explain why we pass the ball around, then give it away, without any pressure on our players. It’s so frustrating. If I had any hair, I’d tear it out. We are playing nice football but as soon as we get in and around the box, we lose it. Frustrated of Suffolk

when koscielny came in the formation was altered into 3-5-2 with BFG in the heart of defence. this is the best formation if we all want kos verm and BFG playing at the same time. Giroud-Walcott partnership upfront: DEADLY!
