What now for Eastmond and Vela?
It has been a while since we had any Guest Posts, but here is one from Ahmed, who is worried about the development of two Arsenal players that are just outside the first team………
While it is much publicized that the Gunners need some experience at the back I wanted to address an experience issue in other parts of the pitch: midfield & striker. What I mean by this is possible loan moves for Craig Eastmond and Carlos Vela. I think both are wasting away on the bench and Arsenal can do more to further their development. There are a few clubs that could use these two:
Carlos Vela: He is quality but his chances at this point in time are limited. He needs to develop and get used to the week in week out atmosphere of the Premiership. I don’t know what his wages are but I’m sure he’s still affordable by some of the EPL teams. Sunderland would be a nice move for him I think. It’s done Welbeck some good to get game time under his belt and everyone can see that Steve Bruce has done well with the quality he has. I think they are a bit short at the moment with bent gone, Welbeck injured and Campbell injured as well. Vela could slot in for the rest of the season and I think sunderlands game would help him develop in an Arsenal-esque manner. I think Everton, Bolton and Blackpool could also be some possibilities for him. I feel like Blackpool would just be like the Arsenal training ground except playing in real games.
Craig Eastmond: He did alright when he came in and covered for us last year when the squad was depleted. He still has a long ways to go if he wants to become a regular and I think he needs to get more time on the pitch. Again I feel Blackpool would be a good destination for him. I can’t think of many other clubs in need of a DM at this point in time.
I think Wenger should think about these two players and try and build them up for the seasons to come. If the clubs can’t afford the salary requirements then arsenal should negotiate the salary to as much as they can and then pay the rest of it. It’ll be very helpful at the end of the day. If those two go out on loan then I don’t think we’ll be short because we’ll have Ramsey coming back into midfield and Vela doesn’t even get a look in now a days.

If Vela goes out on loan then he has to play week-in, week-out as a starter. Otherwise what would be the point?
As for Eastmond. The last time I saw him was against Shakhtar (away) where he was horribly out of his depth. Plus, he is competing directly with Frimpong. Only Wenger knows which one of these has the greater potential to be a first team starter at Arsenal.
We all saw how long it took Song to turn into the player he now is and how a whole bunch of fans wanted him out – some still do. We also see the bile Diaby and Denilson get thrown at them for not being some Playstation extra from Serie A or La Liga.
If Wenger keeps both Frimpong and Eastmond I’d be very much surprised. But that’s long term. Short term would be loans – perhaps for both.
But in aswer to your question. Vela is a quality player who could easily slot into Arshavin’s position on the left, and can do it today.
Eastmond may not even be a quality player. For him he needs to “do a Djourou” if he’s to progress. And that probably means a stint in the Championship.

Velo should go on loan, Eastmond is not arsenal quality. Song, Diaby & danielson all had some quality. All they needed was polishing, Song got that already, Diaby & Danielson will soon get there.
Never a fan of Wilcot but was very impressed with him on sat!

vela he is still not ready for 1st team… will be if he is sent on loan…for rest of the season…and bendtner should be loan out…along with vela…
how about sending denilson on loan to blackpool as they are in need of DMF…

I think Arsen should let them go and find a good club for both of them…. I do not see them getting a chance. Vela could have a chance due to the fact that he is left foot player.

Why is wenger wasting so much time in loaning vela? If there is really interst, he should have made it happen by now

I think Vela has a place in Arsenal squad as Andey Arshavin is stugling with his form this time!I wonder AW to play him in FA and Carling cup to regain his sharpness !
Eastmond need to be in a strong squad like Sunderland and Bolton as it was proved that the 2 managers of respectives teams are good in youth delopment as well!

i think vela should go to bolton as owen coyle did have some interest in him and he needs games!!
eastmond should go to a team like blackpool, as charlie adam is probably going to liverpool they will need a defensive minded midfielder.
I do think Arsene Wenger is, to be quite honest a genius.
I was, and still am so ANGRY and FRUSTRATED that we have 6 years without trophy but he hasn’t spent much and has created one of the most successful football business’ in the world and one of the best teams in the world.

Both Frimpong and Coquelin are better DMs than Eastmond- people only like him because he is a local boy. I have huge doubts that Vela suits the Premiership at all, his workrate and positioning always disappoints, but maybe he could prove me wrong if he had a long first team run out on loan somewhere; an opportunity he has not ever got with us- and will not any time soon.

VELA is quality, he is better than walcott and arshavin but doesnt get games, i wonder why? could it be dicipline issues? Remember people he is a world champ beating brazil in the under 17 in peru . anyways he has quality be he just a drunk along with gio dos santos.

wenger -always right…
among this 3 players only denilson he get maximum game to play…and he cannot deliver to the level we play….as bendtner and vela just warming the beach…y not. don’t u think it’sgood idea to sent them on loan if we are not playing them…

I would like for Vela to go out for a loan, where he can have a long run in the first team. Hopefully he will develop enough so we can get rid of Bendtner during summer. Cant see why Wenger still play him. Is it just me, or is he a bad player who know nothing about first touch and being humble?

Yes, Wenger should send them on loan. Vela, is a great player with huge natural technique since he was a Mexican. But he needs to find the essential things of professional football. He needs to see what it takes to meet the standards, the Arsenal standards. If he is going to mediocre club, the advantages he will take is that he will be mentally stronger, and he will learn how to adapts himself with challenges. Loan should be able to motivate him to reach his goals in his career. He will realize that he is no longer a kid with a lot of money to spend in the bar or clubs. He is now someone who is paid to give something to the football club.
