Where does Arsenal’s Thierry Henry loan deal leave Ju-Young Park?
Arsene Wenger brought in Ju-Young Park from Monaco this summer as competition for the mis-firing Marouane Chamakh, and was convinced he would be a great addition to the Arsenal squad.
Wenger said on his arrival: “We are delighted to have signed Ju. He will add true quality to our attacking forces and will be a valuable addition to the squad.”
But in spite of scoring on his second appearance, he has only played four games in the first half of the season, and three of those were in the League Cup, but the captain of the South Korea team has been scoring for fun for his national team.
Just before Park’s debut against Salisbury in September, Wenger said: “Park is good in every area,” Wenger
“He is good in the air, good technically, he is mobile and that’s why he is an adaptable striker who can play up front behind the striker.
“That’s why we went for him. What I like with him is that he is very mobile and that’s the basis of our game.”
Since then we can assume that Park was adapting to life in England, and it was another month before he made his second appearance, and he played the full 90 minutes against Bolton and scored his first goal. We naturally thought he was ready to join the first team and Wenger said: “Park arrived on August 31 and now we are at the end of October – that’s two months,”
“Park is a quality player, we see that in training, and he is a very intelligent player. That can come out in the game. Overall I believe you will see more and more of Park.
“He personally needed that goal of course but I believe when new players arrive at a club you need that to convince people you deserve to be where you are.
“Many people think that unless you are coming with a massive transfer fee you cannot succeed easily. If he had come with a big transfer fee everybody would have been full of what he achieved. He is showing that he is at the level to play for Arsenal Football Club and certainly the goal will help him to gain confidence.”
A week later he was given an hour against Marseille in the Champions League, and although not as impressive, Wenger was certain he would be ready to cover when the African Nations Cup. “I think he played a little bit inhibited on Tuesday,” Wenger said. “His real game was against Bolton and on the night against Marseille I think he was a bit fazed by the pressure.
“You will see the real Park very quickly. We are relying on him in January but I have plenty of confidence in him. He will show how good a player he is.”
Since then he has just had one hour against Man City in the League Cup defeat at the end of November, but two weeks ago Wenger announced that Park was now totally ready to cover in January. He said: “The adaptation period for him is over now so he has to come in and show he has the quality to play for us,”
“I believe he has the quality…”
“We lose Chamakh and Gervinho for January – two strikers. Maybe Chamakh has not played too many games, but he is still a security that we have. So Park has to step up.”
Okay so Wenger is still convinced that Park is ready to play, but now he has decided to bring in Thierry Henry as cover during the African Nations Cup. Does that mean that Park is now relegated back down to third-choice striker? And will he continue to just play in FA Cup games or sit on the bench waiting for Van Persie (and Henry now?) to get injured before he is risked in a proper game…….
Half a season gone and just one hour of League play is hardly good preparation for a long run in the rigours of Premier League, is it?

No idea why the Centre back-cum-goalkeeper Chamakh plays ahead of this guy. He should at least be given a chance against some of the easier opponents. Park can of course score goals or at least has the ability to score unlike a certain Moroccan who just doesn’t know where the goal is. Probably Chamakh still hasn’t found out what his best position is. Hopefully in the ACN, he might establish himself as a LB!

wenger why they stil here??almunia,squid,denilson,bendtner,arshavin,chamakh. so nxt yr bendtner wil b bavk n f there is no club bid for him so our striker is chamakh(myb wud leav in the summer),rvp(i think wud go)walcot ddnt knw bout him. so park left for about few months.
so next season the posibilities striker is bendtner n park??we’re doom.

There is no doubt he is a talented player, but he did not play convincingly in those games he played. So we of course need back-up to fill gaps….

Arsene will not sign any other striker this January once TH’s deal come true.He will tell us that we have RVP,TH and Park who is like a new signing for us- and that is why he has not been using him all these while.

I think it leaves him as back up to rvp until chamakh returns. henry and arshavin will slug it out for the left wing until gervinho returns with walcott and chamberlain competing for the right.
everyone needs to stop worrying about getting shot of bendtner vela and denilson. at the moment they are out of the club and not on the payroll.
for me its the drains on the current payroll that are not earning their keep that are the main issue. almunia fabianski squillaci diaby rosicky chamakh park and arshavin. those 8 along with djourou and gibbs should be top of the list for a loan or a permanent move.
i do not see there being anymore signings unless they are homegrown or we sell at least 2 of the 8 players mentioned above.

Gazidis is one of the biggest puppets in football you know. He speaks for the owners but only lies come out of his mouth. After moving to the Emirates, we were told to sell before we buy because we had to pay for the stadiums cost. Now four years after that we still have to sell to buy. The only time we have bought someone without selling is when we got Arshavin. That time £25m was at risk for not going into 4th place for a champions league spot, so the clever owners gave Wenger £15m to spend so they gain £10m on the other end. Last season we had more players coming in than going out but we still made £20m profit which went into the pocket.

park is low in confidence, wenger should give him atleast 15 to 20min of playing time so that he can grow in confidence. i believe ju is a good striker and he will surely deliver if given half the chance we gave to bentner and useless charmack.

isnt it a fact that park has only the remainder of this year and the next season before he has to return for his national service???? am not sure what we payed for this guy, but its starting to appear to be a complete waste of money. if hes not gonna be used this season, then we have bought him for whatever he cost, for one season only. please correct me if im wrong, but if im right, why does wenger moan about high transfer fees and wages when he surely is throwing his money away here. play the guy if hes ready!!!!!

The last game Park played didn’t go well for him. But the game before that he played exceptional. He has also already scored a goal. He has only played four games for crying out loud and he actually has had a few good shots on goal. Not nearly enough chance given to him in my opinion. So far he looks way better than Chamakh, and Chamakh has had plenty time to prove himself.
As I stated in an older post, Henry’s loan to the club can only be bad for Park’s confidence. The guy is 26 years old. A Korean international. He has experience ffs. Wenger needs to play him more, especially before tree stump Chamakh.

My friend who lives in france and has actually seen park play says he is a good player but not a great one . My only fear is that the expectations of the emirates crowd will be 2 heavy for him , he could be one bad performance from chamack levels of confidence and then we are screwed . We should be allright with Thierry back because we won’t miss gervinho’s goals . Good luck park when you do play bang one in for the northbank. Up the arsenal

I think it’s great to have him back. It will energize the whole team and if he stays healthy he’s got some goals in him too. overall tho, im not sure how we’ll get back to fighting for titles. Wenger is so reluctant to buy the players we need that it’s ridiculous. We need a world class creative midfielder, that’s where we are really lacking at this point. Nobody can create anything in the final third. Ramsey is a decent player but if he will be our main guy in the middle then we are in serious trouble.

Maybe Park was bought to sell shirts, but he’s hardly going to do that if he never plays. I think he will get a chance very soon, so Wenger can see if he really needs to buy or not. Wenger does see him train every day, I think he would know if Park should play or not. To be honest, I’d rather Arsenal find a new backup striker than gamble on Park, and Chamakh is absolutely useless.
Since Podolski is probably not going to come at least until the summer, it would be great if we could snag Matias Suarez. We’ve apparently put in a bid close to their 10mil asking price, and I think he’d be a great backup to RVP. Apparently it’s more up to Anderlecht than Arsenal at this point, but they’re a selling club. Apparently they’ve been absolutely swamped with offers for several players, so hopefully the deal goes through. This guy http://twitter.com/JavierPerez108 is generally quite reliable, and apparently has 3 sources inside Matias’ circle that say the deal is likely to go through.

Depends on the formation Wenger wishes to use. I hope to see a 442 but we all know he likes to use 4231. Regardless it also depends on the teams we play. I wouldn’t say Park won’t get anytime. I think we’ll see as much of him as we will Henry. Wenger will switch it around but RVP will obviously be the first choice for most games.
Some fans believe Park is a marketing pawn for Arsenal to promote our brand to Korea, which could be true, but at the same time a quality striker that goes for 3.5M is always a great buy. I’m more inclined to believing Arsenal has killed 2 birds with 1 stone in Park’s acquisition.
Let’s just wait and give Park a chance. Don’t write him off as every player deserves time on the pitch to prove himself. He might have a few shaky games at first but how many Arsenal players have gone through this transition period and eventually come good? Many.
Wenger is the best person to see a player’s progression and adaptation as he trains with them week in week out so let the Manager do his job and let’s do ours by supporting the team.

Ju Young Park is starting to look like a panic buy. He has only started four games for Arsenal. I don’t really see where any striker fits in for Arsenal since Van Persie will be playing the loan striking role requiring any striker to play on the wing.
Arsenal need a central attacking/ left wing creative player to fill the void left by Gervinho and possible departure of Arshavin.

@Aussie Jack – Perhaps one of the reasons for the acquisitions of Park, was to simply spite Lille for not releasing Hazard last summer… i.e. buy Park and sit him on the bench because AFC can… Wasn’t there strong speculation involving Arsenal making a double bid for Gervinho and Hazard… though it was only Hazard who arrived at the Emirates last summer… not long after Wenger made a bid for Park, when he was about to undertake a medical for a transfer to Lille… Conspiracy theory maybe, though also a possible reason… hmmmmm… ???? cue, X-Files them…

LOL! anyway, being moroccan myself i can say that chamakh is an excellent striker for the morocan national team and he lead us acn along with others (one u guys would know is tarabt) the reason being why hes so good for the moroccan team is a lot of faith and confidence is put in him when he plays, hes quite a sensitive player he needs gametime and faith then he can turn the goals.

There is no such thing about Henry jeopardising Park place in the team infact Park can really learn from the Master how to score a goal from his coolnes,swiftness and technic. In reality we are short of one world class player in striker department. Henry is just short term solution and we really got to look beyond that…”Wenger please find one striker for long term solution..if he want to buy ..buy it now… not last minute bargain hunting…’” Midfidfield look okay we can do it in summer…Defense wise… a loan spell of good english style player is the solution. if there is none… a reserve Arsenal player would be okay but It’s Marteseker and Vermaleen to teach and give this guys a guidance. As long as solid CentreBack with Martesacker/Varmaleen/koncielski fit with no injury…we will be okay.

Arsenal have a relatively good team I would say. We have a slight chance of winning the champions league. If all the players are fit then starting xi would be like this. Szcesnry Sagna koscielny vermalen santos song wilshere arteta Walcott RVP gervinho subs:miyachi Henry benauyoun Miquel alumina mertasacker. Good team If none gets injured. Even better if podilosiki and pato and a good defender comes in.

This ugly fob clearly is not the Gunners’ material. He ain’t worthy of Gunners’ jersey. You mentioned that he has been scoring in his national team duties. True but against the likes of Lebanon, Oman and some truly third world footie weaklings.
And did you get a load of his praying on the kness after scoring that goal against Wanderers in Carling Cup? It made me puke. i think in 4231 formation, park will fit perfectly as a CF behind rvp.
Park’s advantage is that he can give out smart pass and mobility which is what CF should be good at. Also then arteta and ramsey(who frequently plays as CF behind rvp) could pair up with song in the middle instead rocisky pairing up with him.

Wenger is not gonna buy this season and I respect the dude he is class act, our current players needs to step it up and we have potential especially when everybody is injury free..next season will be ours we are just going through a transition let’s take for example chelsea and Liverpool spent a lot of dollars on players but where are they on the table? But if you expect wenger to buy you will just be stressing just support the man for the unique beautiful soccer culture he contributed to the club. Peace out!!!
