Why is Wenger reluctant to spend Arsenal transfer kitty in January?
If you believe what the papers say then Arsenal are going to hand Arsene Wenger anything from £35 million up to over £50 million to spend on players in the January transfer window. Latest reports suggest that Le Prof is carefully considering whether to spend it or not.
Arsenal fans the world over could provide a quick and easy answer to that question, of course you spend it Arsene. We have heard Wenger saying that he would only buy players that he thought would improve the team and the squad size has to be taken into account, but surely he can think of at least one player.
There may be more to this than he is saying. Perhaps I am being too optimistic, but Wenger could be saving the money for somebody who is not available in January. He has always said that the winter transfer window is a strange beast and has never been keen on it as it smacks of desperation.
Two players who are widely thought to be moving on from their current clubs but not until the summer are, Radamel Falcao and Robert Lewandowski. Athletico Madrid’s star striker is undoubtedly brilliant, but he would take all of the money that Arsenal have got and perhaps more.
There is likely to be a fierce bidding war for Falcao and I cannot see Wenger getting in to that. Lewandowski, on the other hand, will be much cheaper and will have just a year remaining on his contract. He looks like Wenger’s type of player and is two years younger than Falcao.
The transfer of Lewandowski from Dortmund would also leave enough money for Wenger to buy another couple of good players, depending on where Wenger thinks Arsenal need strengthening. Best of all, it would get right up the noses of Manchester United and Alex Ferguson who have made the Polish striker their main target for next summer.
Having said that, Arsene normally springs a surprise with his transfer dealings, so anything could happen come January. What do you think Gooners?

IF WE ARE WITHIN TOUCHING DISTANCE OF THE TOP IN DECEMBER THEN IN JANUARY WE MUST BUY 1 OR 2 MORE CLASS PLAYERS TO GIVE US THAT EXTRA BOOST FOR THE FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON.

We need to keep Walcott he is class. Ok at the moment he is inconsistent but play him up front not on the wings he is one of the best finishers we have and Wenger will not play him up front WHY?? If we sell him it will come back to haunt us COYG

Not being funny but everyone saying we need a back up for Walcott quite clearly has no clue, we already have back up and he’s taken his place in the first team and in the England set up. His name is Chamberlain, have you all forgot about him or something?

Keep Walcot @ all cost, bring in subotic to beef up our defence and create more competition. Buying a midfielder depends on the fitness of our own world best(jack Wilshere) and a small and fast striker like villa will do

@james, Gervinho plays on the left or as striker, Walcott or Ramsey plays on the right.

all i believe we need to buy is a decent right mid…push walcott up to striker as cover for giroud or to replace him for the last 30 mins of each game. Jesus Navas would be my favourite option for the right mid. And then our team is complete!!!

we mainly need a great striker and not one from ligue 2
theres quality players that are available Dzeko Huntelaar even lukaku might be in the summer.
Also a Mdfielder, yohan cabaye suits best and a winger but not sure who for that

Back-up left back is necessary if Gibbs gets injured. Santos won’t cut it, I liked the links to M’Bengue over the summer. Some cover at the striker/wing position would be a welcome addition since we aren’t lucky with injuries and Gervinho leaves for AFCON Jan 19-Feb 10.

As far as I’m concerned it will only be for a financial reason, therefore he’s worried we won’t make champions league imo.

If Walcott leaves then I think we should replace him with either Adrian Lopez or Loic Remy. I think we need a combative midfielder so we should got for Capoue in January. We could also do with a back up/competition striker, so if the rumours about Wenger looking at Damiao are true then i think he would be the ideal candidate as I think Llorente or Huntelaar would make Giroud feel 2nd best.

I could’nt agree more, there is no point in ever contemplating “Falcao”, whereas from what i have seen of “Lewendowski”, i’m in the belief, the lad would surely be a “brilliant!! addition”
must mention however, i am not so sure on Capoue? and M’vila?, as i do not subscribe to the notion, that looking up their clips on youtube, will give you an insight, in how good a player really is, as youtube, will not give you any real idea, of a player’s inconsistency, and you will most definitely, not be looking at their mistakes, also in not really having, any idea of a player’s attitude/character, in not watching his after match thoughts, i am sure that youtube, could make alot of Championship player’s, look very promising indeed, honestly i just dont have the “inclination or desire” to watch hole Ligue 1 games week in week out.

Mario Gotze is the ideal Arsenal player, although only a summer transfer possibility as D are doing ok in the CL. He’s versatile up front, a provider and goal scorer, and relate to the other Germans. W will never get Falcao, too expensive, and Lewandowski will end up at Man Yourpersie. Get Zaha in the winter window and loan back to CP- stop the muddy spuds from getting him.

Don’t think Arsene will buy new players in Jan. Unless we have many players injured. But i still think we need an all out central striker. But dream on…

I agree to a certain extent in the high regard for “Goetze”, but i am sure that Goetze plays central, alike the “Wilshere/Cazorla” role, and to play him on the wings, would be like playing “Xavi” or “Iniesta” out there, i am sure he can, but what a waste, i dont think he is needed, for us at the moment, maybe when “Arteta”‘s legs have gone, we could use his services, for now though “we have more than enough quality”, i am a little suprised however, that che or manc, hav’nt already snapped the boy up.

@YoungGooner. Chamberlain covers Walcott but what about other wingers? Need more then 2. Podolski is a striker, not a winger, he needs to be played upfront. Gervinho sucks, get rid of the flop, sell Arshavin, who we got? Walcott wants to be a striker. We are lacking in wingers, thats why Ramsey played there vs Reading when Chamberlain came off.
