Why not Podolski, Wenger? Or is he just bluffing?
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed speculation that he will move for FC Cologne striker Lukas Podolski in January. When asked on whether he was interested in bringing the German international to the Emirates, the Frenchman replied with a simple ‘no’.
Podolski has been linked with a move to North London for quite a while now. He has 18 months left on his contract with Cologne and had recently hinted towards a switch to Arsenal when he said that he would leave the German club only to move abroad and join a club who play Champions League football.
These comments prompted speculation that the Gunners, who will be losing Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho to the African Cup of Nations will look to sign him in January.
However, Wenger did say that he is on the lookout for a new striker and will make a move if the right opportunity comes by. The 62-year-old has also said that the club are in a good financial situation at the moment and will not hesitate to invest on new players in January if needed.
With Ju Young Park yet to fully prove himself at Arsenal, the departures of Gervinho and Chamakh will certainly leave the Gunners short on the attacking front. For this reason, Wenger is sure to be on the lookout for reinforcements. Who knows, maybe he has someone else on his mind, or just like he did with Per Mertesacker, perhaps he is being economical with the truth?

wenger does not like bidding war, i think he his trying to avoid such situation. the moment he is linked with a player other club just start showing interest which increase the value of the player. such was the case with mata,alvares and others. i think podoski will be a gunner by the end of january

he said the same about mikel arteta aswell in the summer but look what happend… he will sign new players in jan and dont be surprised if we end up getting someone unbelievable…..

Whether he is bluffing or not he will be buying come January having drawn a nightmarish team in AC Milan in the CL. I sincerely hope for this reason alone + the small matter of Gervihno more than Chamakh going to the African Cup of Nations, he goes and gets Podoski who incidentally ticks all the boxes in the red shirt of Arsenal Football Club!!

Iet’s just hope that he said no 2 ward off unecessary bidding war.but if at d end of d day,he did not sign podolski or any other meaningful player 2 replace those going 2 d acn or he allows ordinary rednap 2 sign him,i wil cal wengar a kill~joy.

I can never understand why Wenger is so quick to dismiss proven quality players and yet he goes out and buys mediocre mid table players like Park and Chamakh. If his ambition is to finish mid table then this policy is the right one otherwise lets bring in some quality back up for Van persie or risk missing out on a top 4 finish.

Let us hope Arsene is bluffing so as not to pre raise the price. If he fails to buy a very good striker this January it will be a big mistake – and in the transfer market it would not be the first.
He must also acquire an experienced full back – perhaps on loan ? We will not get away indefinitely with playing 4 central defenders.

he should just strap on a pair and buy neymar. the guys obviously unbelievable so it wouldn’t be a gamble and he did say that he wouldn’t mind him the paper a fortnight ago if he had 40 million to spend which i think he has! just imangine……OMG!!! podolski would be great addition too.

Whether we get Podolski or not, Wenger knows what he’s doing so lets just leave it at that and wait patiently. If we get him, great. If we don’t, is it really the end of the world like some fans have seemed to express? I do like Podolski, but i also believe there are a multitude of players available that can be of higher value and probably fit in the squad better. Remember: Podolski is not the only solution to our striker needs!
I can’t believe why some Arsenal fans have already discounted Park when he hasn’t had the opportunities to show us what he can do. There was a glimpse of brilliance in the Carling Cup when he curled it past the keeper from an Arshavin assist. He looked so confident about that shot he celebrated a fraction early from it going in. That’s just class. The man is a proven scorer both for club (previous) and country. He is the Captain of the Sth Korean team and adds leadership qualities to this team. I think when his English improves and he has more games under his belt, these qualities will shine as currently i believe he’s still in his shell. Give him a chance people! Wenger bought him knowing that he can only play 2 years for Arsenal, but the real reason was buying such quality for a very cheap price. You’ll see more of him in January. Don’t be quick to judge, like some were with Koscielny. If you support Arsenal, then support the players that represent the badge. Enough said!

one thing is sure weather podolski or not he wenger knows that we need quality striker. Look at what happound at caring cup with m/city we lost that game simple because we dont have a finisher in the pitch. When talking of players who we wil lose do to african cup of nations is only gervinho because chamak has no future with us.so wheather he travel to africa or not nobody cares even the coach knows that. Look at now we are playing a/c milan in feb and what wil happound if our goal bulldozer rvp got an injury after the window has been close? So i beleive he knows what he is doing and i never see wenger telling the midia about the players he want to buy. all of a sudden podolski is the best striker in the world that arsenal must buy, did he cure his homesickness?
you will be the first to blame wenger if he flops. anyway, with his past history i don’t think wenger will pay 15 millions for him. maybe he has someone else in mind no need. best to wait till january and see what he’s gonna come up with.

wenger WILL buy podolski…if the price is right!! and podolski himself wants a move away from cologne..the problem is that when arsenal show interest in a player all of the sudden so do tottenham and chelsea. I think Wenger wants to avoid this matter being public. Lastly, i think podolski would be a great buy with 14 goals in 15 games!! comon wenger do the right thing! b a man! u mayb look around the market and come back and his sold! lol.

i think neymar would be better. young quick and score any wheree (as we saw in his game in the club world cup!) but 40mil no way will wnger buy him unless he is going to play him WITH van persie he wont spend 40mil for a bench warmer. damiao would be good as well around 20 mil young quick also can score anywhere he will be good as well but would need a month or so to get adapted as he plays in brazil. podolski would be a great addition as a BACKUP striker or on wing in the front 3. hes more a wiger that cans core goals in my view so would be great to have roation with gerv and theo and replace arashavin. so eitther neynmar or damiao and podolski for the wing would be great for us! but as i said neymar if signed would play with van persie whereas damiao would learn from him and be happy to be on bench for a while to adpat. if we sign neymar i feel we still need another backup player. i aslo think ba aswell hes good and PL proven.
but defence we need a full back centre backs seem fine with miquel coming good.
for a rcreative mid though gotze would be great but were forgetting honds. sbout 12- 15 mil experienced and is amazing. he also wnats to come to europe and with miyaichi to he could be a good fit!

wenger knows what hes doing??? really????..is that why have to buy or try out 3 central defenders untill we get one thats any good. Wenger knows best!..oh yeah is that why we have only one proper striker that scores goals. chelsea have 4, man utd 3 or maybe 4, man city have at least 4 that can hit the net regularly and the spuds have 2 maybe 3.
wenger wont buy anyone and when RVP gets injured the season will collapse like it usually does. Not pessimistic….just look back and see whats happened before when weve had a lack of cover.

well hopefully he is bluffing, with podolski on board and mertesacker, i believe gotze would have no choice than to come to the Arsenal.
But if anything, Olivier Giroud is really impressive and diamao is alsoan amazing prospect for that position.
We need one to replace chamack for good! Park deserves his chances but still another striker should be brought
