With Gibb’s problems should Wenger make Vertonghen a priority?
The latest Arsenal injury news regarding Kieran Gibbs will have come as no surprise to Arsenal Fans given his previous chequered history in the Gunners treatment room, but will Wenger do anything to correct the problem in January.
Arsenal have been linked with the Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen for some time, and as he is Thomas Vermaelen’s old partner it would make sense to try and re-unite them at Arsenal. He is tall and commanding, but more importantly is equally at ease at left-back or as centre-half.
Wenger has already said that, with Vermaelen’s return to the team, that he now has too many centre-backs, but if Sebastien Squillaci is found a new home in January then Veryonghen could replace him in the squad, and also provide extra cover for Gibbs and Santos on the left.
Ajax have apparently confirmed that they are lining up Inter Milan’s Cristian Chivu as a ready replacement for Vertonghen in January, so is it possible that Wenger has already secured agreement with Ajax to poach another top defender from the Dutch giants? I certainly hope so…..

if vertongen comes, we shud sell one or two of our defenders, u cannot just buy n make a squad big while other players become frustrated …

vertoghen would be greay buy as he can play LB CB DM and he is not too expensive he is quite experienced player n current capatain of ajax thus another leader on the pitch

Yeah we should get Vertonghen as he is versatile and has a decent amount of experience + leadership. Can cover for CB, LB, DM. Only other January signing should be Podolski so we can finish 3rd/2nd and then go for maybe one bigger name in summer so we can genuinely challenge for the title.

Vert should be at the top of the list with podolski and Douglas-costa. Vert and podolski are rumored to be around 10-12 mil each (bargains on each) and DC would cost around 16 mil. 36 million in one transfer window can be covered by selling squid, chamakh, and arshavin and using the nasri transfer fee. I can only hope that happens though

hu is the some folks says need that ol in one time..nobody mention mvila hazard too..haha..Stil would love to see vertonghen,goetze and podolski!!no need for hazard r mvilla..the trio yea is a top priority in the position..unles u wud love to see almunia, squid,denilson,bendtner,chamakh stay wthout benefit anythng to the gunners..gving my opinion tho on the trio..bt ol dpends on wengie..not me r u..m jst saying though..

Vertoughen sounds like a good candidate for left back. How about Cissokho from Lyon and Baines from Everton? The news that Garry Cahill can leave in January is also very welcoming.

No point buying Vertonghen. Koscielny has impressed this season, Vermaelen and Mertesacker are obviously great, and we can have Miquel and Djourou as backup(even Bartley for that matter). The left back position does worry me though. Gibbs is injury prone and Santos is more of a left mid than a left back. It’s better if we get a natural left back.

I think 2 players is the max that Wenger will go for. The realistic one will be Vertonghen as he plays along Vermaelean for Belgium and versatile player. This is possible as I think Wenger is very keen in getting rid of Squillaci. The other one will be some unknown french midfield player. I do hope Goetze or M’Villa will be the one. Arsenal really need a playmaker or a commanding player in the midfield.

I realy don’t think that we will buy somebody this year,especially Podolsky. He has a very bad chracter, for example our frendlies with Koln in summer.And if some club will put 2 millions on Ski it’s fine.

wenger plz, wrap up the transfer dealings quickly, as i m sure unitd and city are also looking at vertongen…sell squilacci… And send the younger defenders on loan to a smaller epl club. Just see how well smalling is doing at utd after going out on loan

Gibbs problems or not Wenger should make a move for Vertonghen. He and Vermaelen are a matched pair and can rotate with Koscieny and Mertesacker, it also provides insurance for the full backs.

Wilshere is coming back, he will be like a new signing so i can’t see Wenger going for any midfield players in Jan, unless we suffer two or three long term injuries between now and then. My vote is for Baines. Hugely impressive. Plenty of PL experience. Amazing going forward. Excellent crosser and free kick taker. Everton in finical trouble. He’d get the chance to step up and play CL and stake his claim to replace Cole in the England team.

i think asharvin squillaci almunia will leave in january and the possibly chamakh he was robbed when RVP came back from injury so we can blame Wenger partially, now we are stuck in player Limbo waiting to see if players will prove their worth..
rosicky will leave at the end of the season and if we get vert then next season santos depending if he gets consistent he will leave in jan or Aug..
as for djurou he doens’t need to go he isn’t complaining or wanting to go on loan so we can keep just in case of injuries to kos mert or verm.. he is good for morale and may develop within 2 seasons.. you never know
One thing is a must Squil must go Vertonghen Must come and fill LB either as first or second choice and 3rd or 4th choice cb
