The jury is still out on whether Vito Mannone is accomplished enough to be Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper, and it seems that he is about to be usurped by the returning Wojciech Szczesny very shortly.
The young Pole has not played a competitive game for the Gunners since he was ruled out with an ankle injury during a game against Southampton two months ago, but Arsene Wenger has arranged for him to play for the U21s against West Ham reserves today and has hinted he could be back in the first team squad on Saturday if he comes through okay.
Wenger said yesterday: “Maybe Wojciech has a little chance to be in the squad because he will play tomorrow [Friday] with the under-21s. If he gets through I might take him in the squad.”
With Arsenal’s second-choice stopper Lukasz Fabianski recently given a set-back which means he will be out of action for another two months at least, it could be crucial for Arsenal to get Szczesny back as quick as possible, especially with St Totteringhams Day arriving very soon……
