Yennaris pleased with his performance against Man Utd’s Nani
The Arsenal youngster Nicolas Yennaris was thrown in at the deep end on his League debut for the Gunners when he replaced Johann Djourou against Man United last weekend.
He was tasked with keeping Nani at bay, and he certainly did a better job that Djourou. Although Arsenal lost, Yennaris was more than happy with his contribution to the game.
“My main focus was to just keep Nani quiet and get him down the line away from goal, and I thought I did alright,” he said.
“He’s very tricky. When you think you might be able to get the ball, he’s taken it and he’s going. You have to be patient against some players like that and think of it two ways – either get tight and don’t let him turn or be patient and not dive in.
“But overall I’m delighted at the moment, I can’t be any happier. I’ve made my Premier League debut, played in the Carling Cup and the FA Cup so I can’t complain.”
He also admitted that he had grown comfortable playing on the right side of defence after joining the Arsenal Academy as an attacker! He said: “When I came to Arsenal I was actually a striker and then I went to right back,”
“Through the ranks I was playing at centre back and then in central midfield but I probably wasn’t tall enough for centre back. It was then between playing in midfield and at right back and I’ve just adapted to the game. I’ve known the position for a few years.
“I think I am suited to playing there because obviously I wasn’t the tallest to be playing at centre back and I’m quite quick. I can move up and down the line quite well so I think I probably am quite suited, yes.”
It is to be expected that Yennaris will now start for Arsenal against Aston Villa, while Sagna is eased back into match-fitness, but where will his promotion leave Djourou? He is now fourth-choice centre-back behind Vermaelen, Koscielny and Mertesacker, and he will also be reduced to fourth-choice right-back when Sagna and Jenkinson also return to the squad…..

Djorou needs a loan move to a club like bolton which is struggling defensively,he’ll be a lot better after his first spell,if he doesn’t improve then Wenger can really consider selling him

To be honest, Johan “the donkey” Djourou is useless for the Arsenal!

Well, speak less and do more action on the pitch young lad, some young players destroy themselves with their mouth(Bentfoot). Gud luck however!

play Djourou in midfield as a holding midfielder.

Agree with Rickmike. Djourou is a bit like Eboue to me – an extremely talented footballer, but not necessarily a good defender. I think if we hadn’t signed sagna, eboue might have developed into a much better RB, but didn’t really get many chances to improve his defensive abilities once sagna was signed. Djourou has shown he can be a good CB, particularly last season, but he’s much too unreliable currently. He’s actually a natural midfielder, but we have a lot of good CMs at the moment, and if he can’t adapt to become a consistent, reliable CB, it might be best for all if he moved on to get more consistent football. He’s a player I’ve always liked, but unfortunately this might be the case.

Djourou is one of the players on our team that should never wear Arsenal shirt again. It’s Wenger sticking by him even though he is not good enough. It’s just like Denilson, years and years of under performing, yet Wenger keeps him around for years. Does Wenger actually think he is a quality player? I would love to hear Wengers answer.

we need quality players with creativity and great passes…we forget Cesc leave?now Wilshere must to do all at the midfield with just a little help from old Arteta.

Alex S. G is it his fault that we lost?! Some people are so upsidedown minded and twisted, THAT ITS ANNOYING! Lay off the boy! How many full backs can boast of keeping Nani quiet for 45minutes? I hope he keeps that spot until Sagna and Jenkinson get back! STOP TALKING TRASH!

the kid did well i agree coz even Sagna is always roasted all day long by Nani. But guys check this :
previous now
Yenaris midfield defender
Arshavin c.midfield l.midfield
Walcott c. striker r.midfield
Gibbs midfield defender
Gervinho r.midfield l.midfield
And many others. ARE WE TRYING TO MAKE PLAYERS ADAPT TOO MUCH SO MUCH THAT WE CAN’T GET THE BEST OUT OF THEM? It has been killing us for 7 years because we are trying to be Barcelona.

yennaris was decent enough…but one bad performance from the lad..and the crowd will start baying for his blood..this is the main problem with wengers system..young players have immense pressure on them to deliver..coz there are no experienced brilliant teammates(giggs, kompany etc) to hide their silly mistakes, the old heads we have…r themselves inconsistent…!!

arsenal fans are extreamly ungreatful and we are buying into the negativity produced by the media. Lay of djoure and arshavin. THey are going through a rough time and we need to support them.
wasnt djourou one of the stand out defenders in vermealens absence last season?? couple years before that he was developing nicely and got a cerious injury.
Arshavins goal and assist combination was one of the best in the league last season. It is fair to say he has lost his spark but we never know arshavin could be the guy to get us a winner in a tight encounter against milan as he steps up to the biggest stage. WE had the same problem with a misfiring ade and although our relationship with him turned sour we do miss what he had to offer.
also im fed up with the denilson haters for god sake give him a break he is still 22 i remember a young denilson being tutored under the leadership of gilberto since he left hes find it hard players like that just need confidence and a warm hand around there shoulders not some talentless fan sitting on is arse in the stand screaming at them.
fans times are frustrating but stick together victory will taste sweeter

If you guys watch Arsenal 360 Djourou has a segment in the show. Suppose Arsenal sold him, who would do the show then? That’s a marketing strategy.

The kid has high potential. He’s exciting when he makes his sideline bursts and has tremendous speed, but controlled unlike Walcott. Yennaris will be good to challenge Sagna and Jenkinson. Although Sagna is always reliable and preferred, Yennaris’ presence will definitely push Jenkinson.

@zak
Please I take exceptions to the insults heaped on players in this forum. How can you call somebody who is doing is best (even if not good enough in your view) for the club a “donkey”? Sometimes, I wonder if I am in the right environment!
