Young French defender "thrilled" with Arsenal interest
The 17-year-old Standard Liege defender Eliaquim Mangala is extremely flattered to have been linked with Arsenal.
The youngster scored his first goal for Liege in the opening Champions League match against Arsenal, and he was widely considered to be the best player in the Liege team.
Mangala said: “I am thrilled to be linked to Arsenal,”
“They are on one of the biggest teams in the world, so when you’re linked with them it is very good.
“But I liked Standard, so let’s wait and see what happens in the future.”
Just 18 months ago, Mangala was playing in the Belgian Third Division, so his rise to stardom at such a young age can only be considered meteoric.
He only cost Liege £1.2m but i am certain that Arsene Wenger would have to pay a lot more than that to prise him away from Belgium.
He was born in Paris, so will fit in easily with the young Frenchman at the Emirates, and it was recently reported that he was being watched by the France assistant manager, so he is being tipped as a future full international for France.
