If the Arsenal transfer rumours doing the rounds this week are anything to go by then it looks like Arsene Wenger has a pretty clear idea of where he wants to add some strength in depth to the Arsenal squad, although with the Spanish international Nacho Monreal and the England star Kieran Gibbs you might think that the left back position was already well covered at the club.
According to a report in The Sun though, Wenger is in a battle with the Chelsea boss Antonio Conte over a possible transfer swoop on the Bundesliga club Wolfsburg for their Swiss international defender Ricardo Rodriguez.
The report claims that our Premier League rivals and current table toppers have made the first actual move towards a January signing but we have been linked with this talented 24-year old and we do have his international teammate Granit Xhaka to put in a good word.
The Gunners are also being linked with the signing of a promising young left back called Cohen Bramall and the Daily Express is reporting that the 20-year old is close to agreeing a move to north London, although he would be one for the future rather than as direct competition for our current left backs.
Do these rumours suggest that Arsenal are serious about getting a new left back and does that mean we will soon be saying goodbye to Gibbs?
Bob.
we dnt need to say goodbye to Gibbs even though he always gets injured., Monreal is alrdy 31 lacks pace to keep up offensively n get beat easily defensively, he is like Ivanovic of last season.
why haven’t we signed Ricardo Rodriguez yet? he is very very realistic, wants to join Arsenal, best LB after Alaba,Marcelo,Alba n comes cheap – £20m.
this is how we wnt get him till Chelsea sign him to be rotation option with Alonso when we dnt even have one reliable LB.
That’s being pretty generous… he leaves a lot to be desired defensively but is a great attacking fullback.
Wenger will dance around, in and out, until Chelsea snaps him then he’ll say we almost signed him. there are good defenders that he could have signed but he always falls short of doing anything. we are always stuck with very old, error prone or below par players that always make us lose that extra edge to win the title..
I’d rather we replaced Monreal than Gibbs.
We could use another Lb absolutely especially with Gibbs being injured often but with Debuchy also injury prone we could use a rb too.
In the summer we need a WC attacker in addition to Alexis and Ozil. If we lose one of them then read need 2WC players. If we lose nothing than 3.
The Wenger experiment and philosophy has failed. It’s time for a big change. Either he spends on top quality players who will improve us and gets rid of players that are not good enough OR Wenger needs to go.
Defense has a lot of bodies at the moment.. 3rb’s, 6 CB’s (inc. on loan chambers) and 2 Lb’s.
The thing with RB is who would seriously want to come in and compete with Bellerin?
Monreal does seem to be declining a bit this season, far from the phenomenal defensive displays he had for the majority of last season. I agree a LB should definitely be a priority, we need to clear a few out as well.
it’s not about the bodies(quantity) it’s about the quality… same mistake we made at the start of the season in midfield. we felt we had so many midfielder but forgot we had very few quality midfielders,Now we struggling to replace Cazorla.
Squad depth is about quality not quantity.
we have just one reliable RB- Bellerin
we have just 2 reliable CB- Kosc n Mustafi
we have No reliable LB
the rest are either injury-prone, poor, N that’s not “reliable” nor is it “quality”
Our midfield area also needs to be reinforced with Elneny now off to African cup and Carzola injured, coqueline not fully fit, as well as Wilshire who won’t be back until next season. I suggest wenger should snap up chelsea’s Mikel who can come for free this January. I think the guy has some tiki-taka quality.
Mikel is a DM n in that position we alrdy have 2 quality (coq, xhaka) n one quantity(elneny).
what we need is a reliable LB, a reliable CM (deeplying playmaker) n a reliable LW.
Ramsey in the field and Lucas at the bench; what kind of selection is it? Can anybody give me some explanation please why Ramsey was in the field for 90 min?
coz he is RAMSEY, and he is not injured
Ramsey was not that bad and nor was he anywhere close to our worst performer on the pitch yesterday.
Will get slated for this, but saw signs of the type of form he was in before he went on his amazing run a couple of seasons ago – got into some good positions, and with a little more match sharpness and form, will start contributing with important goals very soon.
Wenger can sign DiMaria,Robben,Ribery,Muller,Neymar,Reus,Hazard n still find a way to start Ramsey on the wing.
He started at the 10 then shifted to midfield… any excuse to whinge though
