Arsenal completely dominated Southampton right from the start, and it seemed like every player in the makeshift Gunners side were on top form for the whole game. The poor Saints youngsters had no answer to Arsenal’s pressing attacks and in the end it was a surprise we only won 5-0!
Arsene Wenger was interviewed in the tunnel as soon as the game was over, and I think it is safe to assume he was quite pleased with the outcome. “Yes, it was a tremendous team performance,” said Wenger. “For example we won 5-0 but our goalkeeper was very good and from number one to 11, I would say everybody had a good performance.
“We looked as well like a real team, it was compact, well-organised, explosive on the transitions and overall of course I am pleased for Danny Welbeck who is not at the club [for a long time] and for Walcott that they scored the goals. Overall we behaved like a real, compact, united team.”
I have to agree that it was more like a training game between the first team squad and the academy players, but the dominance was so total it was a real feast of entertainment, for the Arsenal fans anyway. The home fans may not have been so pleased but at least they arrived knowing they are in one Cup Final this year already.
We looked completely in tune with one another, and it just emphasises the quality and depth of the squad. Wenger is in the stands again for the next three games and we can only hope that we continue in the great vein of form for the rest of the games with Bouldy in charge!
Onwards and Upwards!

Have agree last night’s performance was excellent. Plenty of cover all over the pitch. Went at it 100 mile an hour from the start. Good to see the hat trick and the pair for the two lads. Keep it up.
Great game, great energy and lots of goals. Let’s keep it going, and not make it a one-off. We need to momentum going into the Chelsea game.
