Although January seems a long way away, there are still many Arsenal transfer rumours flying around. Arsene Wenger has made it clear that he intends to strengthen the defence in the upcoming transfer window, but the Daily Star reckons that Arsenal are intending to bid for the Benfica and Argentina star midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, who has a £36m buyout clause in his present contract.
Gaitan was the star of the show for Benfica last season as they won the domestic treble in Portugal, and last week he emulated Lionel Messi by scoring two goals for his country in a 7-0 rout of Hong Kong. At 26 years of age the brilliant South American has decided that he is ready to step up to a bigger league and has refused to sign a new contract offer with the Portugese club.
This means he will be one of the hottest properties in the coming transfer windows and I am sure that Wenger would be interested in yet another top-class midfield addition to the Arsenal squad, as that seems to be the only players he looks at nowadays. The question remains that do Arsenal have more than enough of that genre in the squad already?
In fact IF we had all our midfielders fully fit it is not even certain that Gaitan would be a regular starter, and it is really time for Wenger to buy some competition for the defensive midfield and other defensive positions before buying more midfielders!
We need defenders and defensive midfielders not another attacking midfielder who Wenger will play out of position.
Surely not even Wenger would be that stupid to try and sign this player in the middle of a defensive crisis.
But wait, he IS stupid enough…
Gaitan is top quality and would be an upgrade on the left mid although I would prefer
Arda turan,rues
@Me
That is the problem because this is the kind of player Wenger will buy.
We did not need Sanchez (or even Ozil as a matter of fact). We should have brought defensive covers and a DM.
Sanchez should have been the ice on the cake… A gift for the fan patience on top of what we really needed.
That is what top club do. They buy what they need and add a special player.
We didn’t need ozil, I agree.
We needed Sanchez though, since wenger haz been playing attacking midfielder as wingers.
We desperately need Sanchez. We did not score enough goals last season. We seriously lack runners when both Walcott and the Ox out injured. It has been long time since Arshavin (first 1.5 season) that we have someone who can get past players and create space (just watch his last match). Wenger may make a lot of doubtful decisions, but he definitely spot on in bringing in Sanchez instead of Fabregas
We also need Ozil because we need top class players to win titles, not a bunch of average ones. If a class DM and Ozil both available, we definitely should go for DM, but when there’s none available at that time, Ozil is a must buy.
Sanchez has been amazing but saying that Wenger shouldn’t have brought Fabregas back is ludricous.
We could have had Cesc delivering those beautiful long balls from deep, same as he used to do for Henry and now does for Costa, to Welbeck who does much better up front as last man with space to run, not scuffing around in the box or Sanchez.
A good manager would see that, Maureen saw it and jumped at the chance to sign Cesc, straight on the phone, personal call to sign the deal.
This is possibly the third year that Wenger has gifted the title to a direct rival by selling a player, Fab is as bad as selling because we had the first option.
man is an idiot.
Wenger out.
We dont need him, we need a dm/cb player
I’m going to go off topic for a while here. I believe this is the first time wenger will tell us to expect a player back in”3 weeks” and the player will be back (or even before that time)
I believe Forsythe is doing his job well. Most of the injuries we accumulate comes from the pitch. Monreal and Ramsey were supposed to be out for 4 weeks…they are actually a week ahead of schedule. Giroud is “recuperating well”… Wenger said Ozil is not out for 12 weeks but he can envisage “6-8 weeks”… Diaby is still uninjured.
Its still early to judge but I believe Shad Forsythe will come clean at Arsenal.
You had me until Diaby. Hard to credit Forsyth when Diaby hasn’t played a single minute for the senior side yet. But yes, if Forsyth can get Abu healthy and contributing then he will have earned his bonus.
“if Forsyth can get Abu healthy and contributing then he will” be considered as Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine 😛
Amen !
It was forsyth’s responsibility to prevent injury not treat it. It does not help Arsenal’s cause to have a player out for two months instead of three.
For that reason I will say the appointment of Forsyth has not been worthwhile.
What needs to be looked at is the training and fitness regime.
But it is Wenger’s training regime so its beyond criticism.
what is diaby still.doing at Arsenal?
Well, what is Wenger still doing at Arsenal??
Diaby will be like a new signing when he comes back, that’s what Wenger has been saying for the last 3 years.
Diaby has to be released, that will be 60k a week off the wage bill and we can use that to fund new world class players.but then Wenger is our manager so I’m not to hopefull.
can’t believe that the sissies playing at arsenal have a higher wage bill compared to Chelsea … that’s blasphemy!!!!
what are you still doing here?
@flasheyz the guy is doing a good job
we need a cdm not another attacking mf. I think that arsenal will sell ozil in summer PL is too much for him & hope we go 4 reus/draxler
@leo We wont sell ozil you forget about that
We should focus on what we need, signing a top top DM, when all other big teams occupied with trying to sign Reus.
Don’t get me wrong, every Gunners would love to see him join us, we can always do better with another WC player. Fact is with Bayern, Real and Paris SG in the chasing pack, we don’t have that much chance. Beside we already have Sanchez who is as good as Reus and less injury prone (touch wood).
I wouldn’t mind tacking whoever bayern or real will be letting go to occupy rues
@leo draxle has got his form back this season
AST have looked into the figures given out at the agm last week and say we have 42m to spend in January, get 10m for poldi and we can easily buy a top cb and CDM.wenger has no room for errors in that window and no excuses can be made.
@mr lean there are reports saying wenger is more out than in,and ancerlotti may be our new mananger next season
Rather have Klopp and he can bring Reus and hummels with him
@mr lean klopp and Hummels for me,draxle is the most scouted player by arsenal
really ancelotti but why would he leave Madrid + would prefer klopp
The grass on the other side is not always greener.
Did anyone really watch Bundesliga or at least look at the table?
Dortmund is struggling much worse than us, 8 games only 7 points, 14th place and they did not even play against Bayern yet.
I don’t think the result gave Klopp justice but it’s far from the truth that he is way better than our current manager or anywhere a perfect manager. He had made a number of mistakes this season
Last year many of the people here crying for younger manger like Pochettino, what have he done for Spuds this season?
Diego Simeone is doing better than Klopp, but nothing speical, Atletico is at 5th spot and scored only 4 goals from open play, the other 10 goals are from set pieces.
Wenger won’t go anywhere soon, even you hate the guy, at least back the team you supported and he is part of that
Koop has been poor this season his team are sitting in 14th in a inferior leauge and he has lost the last three in a row
Ancellotti is a serial winner he also would be the man to win us the champions leauge
I say give wenger till the end of the season and he has to deliver a trophy
Your opinion along with idiots that thumped you up are stupid.
@Tapo Dude i was just saying what i was reading i didnt give no opinion
Sorry i mean @tope
Just one of those cray transfer rumours.
Gaitan is good player but we not need him now. I think wenger may go for borzovic. A typical wenger signing. I wouldnt mind him though . He is tipped as a future star. Anyway we cant afford to miss a defender. Thats a must. If everyone is fit wenger may try chambers as cdm after january. I think it may work well. Because he is more than talented for that job too.
From what I’ve seen of this player he is very ATt minded is this what we need?
Still dont understand this love for reus.he is great player no doubt about it but have y’all reus lovers consider his injury record right from before the worldcup till now which explains why he is been on and off.dm and cb should be wenger priorities and not all these”we dont need ozil and sanchez when we bought them” comments but they want reus when we are short at the back.
@thando i wasnt replying your comment but that of the guy that raised the issue
Just like van gaal got man u the defence they need right? Tell me the special thing van gaal has done so far that made you believe he would make us champions. Try and be rational with your opinion.
reus, draxler, isco and hummels bring them all in…..
we need quality players to provide cover and competition
Why would we sign 3 top left mid that would cause too many problems
@tope van gaal is similar to wenger they both needed cbs and dms but they went for attacking players
While we signed two right backs they signed two left backs
Because these players are not available in the last transfer windows.
Luiz (50M), Mangala (40M) and both are average.
Barca paid us 15M for an injury prone CB who did not even make debut for them.
Top top CBs are at the premiums recently
Then why sell Vermaelen in the 1st place?
or if the market is so lacking in quality CBs, why we sell him only for 15m, even if he’s injury prone?
what about manquillo going to Liverpool? couldn’t we have signed him on loan and let chambers play CB?
what about Manolas going to Roma? why we always penny pinch, even IF we’re in such dire need for an extra defender?
And why Vermaelen’s form keeps dropping? is it just injuries? or is it that he was practically humiliated by giving him the captains armband while sitting on the bench for the whole season?
Does Wenger even know rotation anymore?
what happened to that form from last season that lead us to top of the table for 188 days? Are you telling me that was just luck?
the improved defense last season, the partnership between arteta and Ramsey, Ozil Walcott cazorla working wonders even with Giroud up front. And even he Giroud was scoring headers…
where IS all that? Wenger, how much more stubborn can you get?
Concerning Diame the Hull skipper Curtis Davies said “Arsenal were meant to get him on about two or three occasions. I’m not sure if it was something to do with the medicals. He nearly went there when he was at Wigan and West Ham.”
Why couldn’t Arsenal get Diame? Was our interest in him not strong enough? Anyone knows?
guys, don’t worry…. if the buyout clause is 36 mil then wanker will offer 16mil and then improve it to 16mil plus 1 dollar and then city or chelsea will come and get their man for 40mil…. so we are covered on that front….and regarding dm, we will be having a new signing in the form of “one-match-fit-diaby”
