Arsenal player ratings from Everton win – Giroud MOTM

To be honest, I was going to give the Arsenal play maker Mesut Ozil my Man of the Match award, but listening to Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher after the game and seeing some of the clips they showed to support their own pick, as well being really impressed with the way he has responded after losing his starting place to Theo Walcott, I decided that the big man Olivier Giroud deserved it after all.

Cech 7.5 – Nothing much to di in the first half and a couple of slips but a brilliant second half.

Bellerin 7 – Another tireless and effective game from the right back.

Gabriel 7.5 – Brilliant comeback from the Brazilian. Loved that tackle celebration.

Koscielny 7 – Missed a few tackles but kept fighting and was brave for his goal.

Monreal 7 – Great game nearly spoiled by giving ball away late on.

Coquelin 7 – Did well to play his game on the knife edge of a booking.

Cazorla 7.5 – His usual midfield magic and great assist but tired towards the end.

Chamberlain 6.5 – Some good stuff but cost us another goal.

Ozil 8.5 – Top quality talent and great attitude. Another assist.

Alexis 7.5 – Great effort but he needs a rest to regain top sharpness.

Giroud 9 – What an effort and influence. The big man is back.

subs:
Flamini 5.5 – Straight into the tackles but those two goals must have gone to his head.

Gibbs 6.5 – Did his job well in limited time.

  1. Never watched game, but from comments ratings seem spot on.

We can now give most players a rest in midweek, let fringe players and young guns get some game time.

  2. Hope this can be our year.

If we leading when transfer window opens I hope Wenger makes an additional or 2, at moment we seem a bit short on depth with injuries.

Yes I know its only 3 or 4 players, but it really makes it difficult to have effective rotation during heavy schedule.
Thats the problem we got the numbers and quality, but we always have a few injured players out. When someone returns another is on treatment table.

    1. I lost interest in all you were going to say the moment i saw ur username. I think the thumbs down u re getting is cos of the negativity your username carries. Don’t be bitter mate, these are good times for all of arsenal especially Wenger..

  3. I know this makes me a bad sport, but I think and hope Mou gets the sack on Monday.

Thumbs up you think Mou can pull it together and challenge us.

Thumbs down keep him cause he is running Chelsea to the ground

    1. Mou isn’t fit to lace Wenger’s shoes, all Wenger haters have now seen how average he is without the over-spending

  4. This are the kind of games that makes champions…really happy to see ozil carzola gabby bellerin monreal n koss doin great…were winning wit alexis outta form, wen his fully back it wud be rilli scary…but I wud want wenger to give all of em a rest against sheffield wed…

  5. My Man Of The Match was Sanchez. Just because he didn’t score you cannot dock rating points, lol. It’s good to see Giroud back, I rate him infinitely better than Walcott. Even an out of form Giroud is preferable than Walcott but this is partly because I’m no fan of Walcott as a centre-forward and it’s not unknown.

Giroud had a very good game, he had the devil in him, but still not a patch on the contribution of Sanchez.

As for the DEFLECTED goal, no Arsenal player is responsible for it and so in my Book I would not have docked Chamberlain or Petr Cech a point like you seem to have done. Chamberlain put a shift in.

Koscielny would get another point from me for the goal, especially since it secured us 3 points instead of a 1 point we would have got for a draw from Giroud’s goal.

    1. No one blamed Ox for the goal. Or Gabriel. It worth saying though that all Ox mistakes were deadly ones. Each and every one of them was converted into a goal.

      1. 4th time he makes a mistake, fourth time that mistake leads to a goal. He is to blame and he needs to step his game up, his decision making is still very bad.

  6. Just when you thought your luck was out and nothing is going right, wwhoopee The Greater Portuguese gob has refused to talk to the press
What with the gooners going top, what a lovely day

  7. Rating was fair though Ozil deserves it too as you mention already.
Ozil top of assist, arsenal top of the league, Coincidence?????
I want see us build some gap from now to January, in next 9 games, then defend the lead in the second of the season. #GunnerBeChampions.

  8. Oxlade Chamberlain was the weak link..Always losing possession… it is so frustrating.. no wonder the manager has always stuck with Ramsey on the right wing..Maybe a loan move will help him develop..esp his defending and making the telling passes.. Even opposing players seem to have mastered that his runs are useless

    1. He was really poor at times some moments he couldn’t even make a 3 yard pass but he also had his bright spots like that through ball to alexis or that beautiful cross giroud couldn’t get on the end of.

  9. @A1A, The Ox was purely at fault for that goal, Bellerin was in a right place at the right time to receive that ball but he opt to put it into crowdy area. You don’t give such a ball away when your defenders joined the attack.

    1. What about Benzema? Glad we didn’t buy him when we could be getting younger strikers with more potential

  10. Good to see the average player ratings rising. Tells a lot!

Bellerin is/was superb. What a future that boy has. Monreal also had an outstanding game I thought as he did against Bayern.

Ozil , had one of the most effective games I’ve seen him play in a Arsenal shirt but Giroud just takes MOTM for me.

    Onwards and upwards!

  11. after spuds heroics flamini is thinking he is a striker at such a nervy time u can’t leave hole in midfield and get into opponents penalty box.

    1. But he wasn’t meant to be playing defensive midfielder! Wenger put him in attacking positions to do the ramsey role, that is, pressing midfielder in higher positions. It worked well, he stabilized the game. And he almost scored, his mate Mesut assisting him, now that would be priceless xD

  12. Ratings more or less spot on, giroud had a very good game. Loved the boss’s passion in his celebration. Ozils looking dangerous. COYG

  13. I am happy for Giroud’s MOTM performance especially for him to have edged Ozil – who had a mouth-watering display for us. Welcome OG.

    PS
I heard that there will be (special) Copa America tournament again next year to mark 100 years.?
I think Wenger should plan well for Arsenal IRO Sánchez. By the end of that tournament next year, he could have played over (or thereabout) 200 games in a couple of years. I fear burnout.

  14. I think coq shouldnt been an 8 MINIMUM he is so important to our game he didn’t let any attacks go through the middle and Barkley was supposedly on form. Coq is the real deal I love him and cazorla as our midfield generals!

  15. I think we should buy Mane from Southampton for 15m -18m and as part of the deal Chamberlain should be loaned for 2 seasons to Southampton. The weight of expection from him will not make him improve his game at Arsenal. He needs to go to a club where the expection will not be to high and then he could develop his game properly and come back a better player. All he does is want to run at defenders and lacks that technical ability and team play. Now I see why RAmsey is preferred on the right by Wenger. Going to Southhamton on loan would help him a great deal. Look at what loan spell has done for Jerkinson, he is doing very well for West Ham and I saw how he played with confidence against Chelsea.

    1. Never trust the guy that calls our banter king Jerkinson.

In all seriousness, I think this is a bad idea. Ox needs games to get better, and he is going to get them now Ramsey is injured. All is well 😉

      1. People talking about loaning Ox out now are talking through their ass. He is going to get better with games, that’s the point of a loan you tools. We need him now that Ramsey is out.

  16. It’s had been a good 1/4 season campaign for Arsenal’s Gunners as they are on top the table with 22 points after played 10 games. I say welldone Gunners! Now, in the interim, the Boss and the Gunners must turn their full focus in all aspect of football matters on the Owls of Sheffied Wednessday. This Owls’ Capital One CUP game against the Gunners is their big game of the season. The Owls will give everything they have in their game amplications to be the spoilers for the Gunners’ ambition to be the 1st team & club to win all the available fifthruple titles in the history of football in UK. Therefore, the Boss and the Gunners should not underrate the Owls, but take their game with them with every seriousness, physically, mentally, technically, and tactically to stop the Owls from derailing one out of their ambitions.

  18. It was Jamie Redknapp and not Jamie Carragher that praised Giroud after the game. TBH I thought all through the game that he was the best player in the pitch. Everything was getting to him – in that he knew exactly where to be.

  19. For me both Giroud and Ozil should be on the same number, an 8.5 or a 9 together.however since you have to give one of them motm ..Ozil. You could have put a card board cut out of Giroud in front of their keeper and that ball was going in off it’s head the delivery being so precise. The German just oozes class, such intelligence and gracefulness ..then springing to action.

How awesome was the Gabriel slash Martin Keown moment ..shades of manu celebrations. Love this dude.
