Arsenal to answer Dortmund defender’s transfer plea?

It was just a few days ago that we heard the surprise declaration from the Germany international Mats Hummels that Arsenal did not even attempt to sign him from Borussia Dortmund after he made it clear that he would be moving on. We might not have got him anyway because he signed for the German champions Bayern Munich but it would have been nice to at least try.

I just hope that this does not mean that Arsene Wenger is not thinking of adding to his defensive options during the summer transfer window because I for one think it is a key area in which the Gunners are not strong enough. Mertesacker’s lack of pace is becoming a real concern as forwards get quicker and quicker, while Koscielny does not seem able to play every game of a season.

Gabriel can be too hot headed and Chambers is not experienced enough so another top quality centre back would be a great transfer move for Arsenal and the former team mate of Hummels at Dortmund has just sent out a come and get me plea that IO really hope Wenger reacts to.

An Express report reveals that Neven Subotic has issued a statement via Facebook that he wanted to leave Dortmund after making just 11 appearances last season due to injury and falling down the pecking order under their new boss.

The Serbia international wrote, “Dear friends, during the last year I realised that my love for the game of football in an active role is too big to just be able to see it from outside. Football is an important part of my life. I love it and I can’t be without it.

“I am in the best age for a football player and I want to use my time to improve myself and my team every day. And I want to have the feeling I am needed and I can give everything for my club. That is what I am thinking about.”

At 27-years old Subotic is in his prime and he is a fantastic talent. At 6ft 3in he seems like the perfect long term replacement for Mertesacker, so will Wenger answer this transfer plea?

  1. Depends on How bad his injuries are and likeliness o more injuries

Personally Id get howedes. can Play C, L,R in defense. All defensive positions. Wenger likes versatility

  2. If he is injury prone, I’d say NO!
    But if not, maybe….

I would like Howedes too,the idea of replacing with another top German centre half is sweet!

  3. I know that Arsenal fc is a charitable club and very sentimental to the odd Dear John letter, but in this case, I would have to say “thanks but No thanks”, I’m sure we could do a lot better than him.

  4. It’s a very sad day for football that messi has called time on his international career. Argentina is a team full of jokers and chokers so although am sad I dont really blame him for his decision even though I think afa, conmebol and fifa should try their best in getting him to change his mind.

    1. Messi is 29 years old, next world cup he will be 31. He is probably thinking about prolonging his career at Barcelona. Taking a break during the summer and the international breaks should reduce his chances of injury, let him rest and prolong his barcelona career. If I were a Barcelona fan I would be delighted.

  5. Higuain is a bottler of note on the biggest stage,he missed the best chance of the 2014 World cup final and also the best chance of the 2016 Copa America Final I’m glad he’s overpriced meaning Wenger won’t try to sign him!
