Even though Arsenal fans can easily disagree about the simplest thing, I think we can all agree on which of our current players is the most important. So we know, just as Arsene Wenger does, that our encouraging but also fragile hopes of finally regaining the Premier League trophy will be dealt a massive blow if Alexis Sanchez picks up an injury that rules him out of club football for any length of time.
Luckily for us the fantastic forward came through the two international games with Chile with no problem, even though the manager of Chile admitted that he was taking a risk on his fitness after Alexis limped out of our beating of Man United.
But his last game was played in South America yesterday morning and with a long haul flight back to London Alexis will not have a lot of time to rest and recover before Arsenal head to Watford on Saturday. There are bigger games coming up for the Gunners, with Everton next week the first of them, so can Wenger be a bit cautious?
I doubt it to be honest, because Alexis is such a key player and because the Premier League is such a big priority. I´m sure Wenger will rest him for the League cup game next week and will hope to be able to replace him at the weekend with Arsenal in a dominant position against Watford.
Other big players like Ozil and Cazorla are perhaps easier to drop, but with his fitness levels and the overall effect he has on the Arsenal team, Alexis has made himself a must start. I just worry that our manager will overplay the Chilean as he did with Ramsey a couple of seasons ago. And if Alexis does have to have a spell on the sidelines, what would that do to our title challenge?
Resting both Ozil and Alexis would against Watford away would be a big mistake
I would say our hottest attackers right now would be Ozil, Alexis and Theo
I would not mind Giroud playing up front after him scoring two goals the other night to give Theo rest and I guess OX could play left and Cazorla could play CAM
But I would play all 3. They have good conditioning and can handle the match.
For Watford
Cech
Bellerin/Kos/Mert/Monreal
Coquelin/Cazorla or Ramsey
OX or Walcott/Ozil/Alexis
Walcott or Giroud
Don’t underestimate Watford!!!!!
still don’t understand the logic behind resting players. at the end of the day we will lose both games.
a win against Watford gives us a good momentum against bayern.
we rested player against zagreb, lost d match and subsequently lost against Chelsea….play ur best team
Great news to hear that alexis sanchez, came through the internationals injury free!
No he should play because he will be my FPL captain lol.
On a serious note though, I think he needs some rest. A game rest would do him good but he is in form now and should be on his feet for Bayern next week also, we can’t risk any chance of going on top by benching our best players. #yagunnersya
Alexis sanchez 》”world class”!
I’d be shocked if Sanchez accepts being dropped lol
Perhaps Ozil if he played both games for Germany or maybe even Santi if he did.
I think only one out of santi, ozil, sanchez and theo will get a rest
We’ve found good BPL form, Wenger will really not want to disrupt it by changing the line up too much
I think we this team becomes devastating once welbeck is back. If welbeck plays right wind then we can destroy opposition. We need to keep wiininng matches until january and from there we can really push and lead for the title
Sunny
Just rest them and put a good team out as it should be enough to win. I would rest LC HB SC Ozill A S SC TW but have them on the bench. I no I will get thums down but this is a very long season. MA and MF are back so play them and get the kids a game knowing that the league cup game is soon
@arsenalkid1970
Very sound logic Gooner. Some here aren’t thinking about what happens should any of those guys get injured at the Watford match. We have a good enough 2nd string squad to do Watford away. Bayern match is a must win on both legs…
It’s possible to win the EPL, but not the CL. Prioritize the league, on the bench for the Munich game. If we are drawing going in to the last half hour, bring them one. having said that, it is easier to rest Ozil than Sanchez.
Rest our best players? You must be kidding. Check how many goals Watford have conceded at home and you’ll know why we should take the match seriously.
@Godswill
They haven’t played us, yet…
I would say that letting Oxlade run at Watford would help the cause or chambo’s cause due to his good physical side mixed with speed he can be very useful. Going back to Arsenal’s 2010-11 campaign Arsenal lost Fabregas to injury and Van Persie,Nasri missing some matches. Welbeck is a very option considering his speed and strength from January onwards.
Million % need to start with the same side we did against Manure.
If we are winning and look in control by the 60th – 70th minute then let the resting begin..
Play the strongest team available do not underestimate any team in the premier league especially as every teams squad has been improved. There is absolutely no point in destroying Man U and then losing to Watford due to playing a weaken team.Get the game won and then make the changes in the last 20 minutes or so .
