Arsenal transfer rumour round-up – Varane, Martinez, Cabaye and Isco

The transfer window opens in just over a month now, so we are having a look at the latest rumours doing the rounds.

The DailyStar is claiming that we have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the chase for Raphael Varane, with the young Frenchman admitting he is keen for more first-team action. Unfortunately, what he actually says is that he wants further action for his current club, but the rumour mill doesn’t wish to admit that… Varane would be a great addition in my eyes, but I don’t think he is for sale, and I don’t believe we are interested in temporary solutions.

According to the Express, we are considering moves for Jackson Martinez and Isco which both sound rather far-fetched to me. As much as I would like to believe we would invest the reported £64 Million needed to sign Isco from Real Madrid, I just cant imagine Arsene Wenger prioritising a midfielder or a striker with the vast options we currently have going forward.

The same paper also claim that we are favourites to sign former target Yohan Cabaye, who is said to be looking for a return to England.

The midfield general has failed to make the expected impact for Paris Saint-Germain since his move in January of this year, and the French club are said to be willing to take a £3 Million loss on his £22 Million purchase. There could be some life in this story, with Wenger having held Cabaye in high regard. The 28 year-old is more than capable of playing in the defensive midfield role, and his work-rate going forward as well as back-tracking could improve the players around him also.

Could Cabaye be the most likely arrival at Arsenal in January?

  1. No way is Varane a ‘temporary solution’!! He’s a beast and it would fantastic for us to get him, though it’s near impossible that RM would let go of the world’s best young centre back. I will go crazy if Varane joins Arsenal. Cabaye would be a good addition but our priority should be a centre back.

  2. Varane is a dream but very unlikely. It is not like Real Madrid having a lot CBs.
Cabaye is welcomed addition. But before that a backup CB, preferably a LCB who can deputise Kos. Chamber will be our long term replacement for Merte at RCB

Winston Reid, Fabian Schar would do. Ron Vlaar is quality but too injury prone this season, we already have enough of that.

      1. Your of your head simples any of them average player mentioned could spend a decade in Germany team?

    1. ADMIN COMMENT – Exaggeration old chap. Of the last SIXTY articles only SIX have been transfer rumours. Count them yourself….

  3. Stay with the squad we have.
In the summer have a total review
    Owner, CEO, Board, Manager.
    Consult the fans.
    Reassess the Clubs goals.
Sell / release average or injured players.
    Buy top quality.

I don’t exactly know how your suggestion sounds like to me. Like the right thing to do? Or, like what Arsenal FC will not do?

Seriously though, “Reassesing the Clubs goals” is the one I hope for the most.

  4. Anybody thinks we should try to get Youri Tielemans from Anderlecht? He’s only 17, but is an absolutely insane player. He has no weak foot, has an amazing passing range and great physicality. It will be tough to get him considering that every top club in Europe is after him but damn, he would be a fantastic replacement for arteta.

  5. Varane , isco would be dream come true. But thats near imposiible for me. Two of the worlds best. I dont think real are so foolish to sell them. I would take cabaye. But defenitely need a new cb. Atleast someome like a schar or Nkalou of marsellie.

    1. He is top quality I’ve been Following him for a couple of years he has the potential to be one of the worlds best fabrigas made our team at 16 so can teilemans. If diaby and coqulan are being departed by summer he should be targeted as their replacement after all we were going for rabiot who is another young cm

        1. Average players that will eventually turn good would Prefer krychowiak and nkoulou who are the best two in euope this season in their respective positions and both aren’t cup tired.
