Arsene Wenger’s future will decide key star’s contract

Arsenal have been in talks with Mesut Ozil over an extension to his current contract since last season, and he has broken the silence on why he has so far failed to agree.

The German international was our star player of last season, earning the title of assist-king, but has fallen behind team-mate Alexis Sanchez this season who is showing his true star quality.

The pair are both into their final 18 months of their current deals, and so far neither has managed to agree terms on an extension, but the stumbling block for the deals appears to be different.

Alexis Sanchez and Arsene Wenger have both stated that money is standing in the way of an agreement being made between the pair, but Mesut Ozil is not overly-concerned with this.

The midfielder has confirmed that he is so far refusing to sign a new deal unless the future of his current manager Arsene Wenger is cleared up, a theory we at JustArsenal.com brought to you some time ago.

Ozil said: “I am very, very happy at Arsenal and have let the club know that I would be ready to sign a new contract. The fans want that I stay and now it is just down to the club.

“The club knows that I am here most of all because of Arsène Wenger. He is the one who signed me and he is the one whose trust I have. The club also knows that I want to be clear what the manager is going to do [in the future].”

Does Ozil’s stance increase the likelihood of Wenger staying? Was there any chance of Arsene leaving this summer? Would the #WengerOut brigade be happy to get their way if it meant losing a key player?

  1. Royalty to manager or club?
At one point, sooner or later, Wenger would leave.
Am not seeing this beyond two seasons from now at most.
So Ozil will sign a one year extension?
Sign for the club and not manager. You have played under many managers including more than two in the Germany national team.

    1. Agree. Ozil should play for the badge, love for the club and not for the manager. he knows if Wenger goes the new manager won’t tolerate his laziness. Wenger gives them so much freedom and never criticize them, he’s a daddy figure to them. we want Simeone who’ll kick someone’s face when you don’t show hard work, a manager who always wants 100% from the players, a manager who always wants to win, and not someone who gives excuses every now and then and still no improvements made to eradicate the problems

  2. Ozil kisses the badge (most of the times) when he scores, I wonder what he sees on it.. an Arsenal badge or Wenger’s face

    1. By what i know about alexis, he would gladly stay without wenger while the new manager wil be a recognize one and one who really want to win throphies…i think wenger exit could be a motivation for alexis to stay if the signing of the new manager shows ambition (while, freeing the wages that wenger doesnt deserve, we could pay 200 a week to alexis..ozil could stay if the manager is one who plays good football or maybe loaw…but if ozil exit should be the price of leaving wenger and the mediocrity, so be it

      1. I doubt Alexis will be sould in the Premier League, I believe the club will rather have his contract run out with the idea that he will be past 29 at the end of his term.
Besides, both Sanchez and Ozil are here just because of Wenger, let’s not fool ourselves. Wenger is the only manager which will guarantee these two regular starts. Wenger gone and pretty much both will be gone. First Ozil and then Sanchez simply because there is no other star in the team. Sanchez partners the best with Ozil, watch next game and you will see Ozil looking for Sanchez and Sanchez never has anything to say to Ozil even when he’s cr@p.
Personally, I don’t care. If Wenger goes and both decide to leave then so be it. It just shows that both of them are not really winners as many here claim. Oh, and with Wenger gone I doubt there will be really stars in the team anymore. But yes, we will need to build a TEAM just because we will lack big stars for a while. Personally, I am fine with it. Question is, can Wenger build a new team AGAIN?

  3. everyone above, What is wrong with you? Ozil and Sanchez are here on their prime time and playing for this club and even I would leave considering the board and the manager have no ambition. It is clear that ozil likes playing a good football and that is the a big value of wenger’s. And that is why I am an arsenal fan and think is the difference b/n us and chels**t and manure. Both of them would walk into any team in the world. So let’s be clear where our furestration lies. And that is the wenger’s inability to win. Not ozils inability to play!

    1. he pledged his loyalty to Wenger, not the team that pays him every week and fans that love him regardless of his shocking displays whenever people count on him.. good football branded us the laughing stock in this planet earth, what did we achieve?

13 years without a major trophy, and counting.. Barca plays good football and they don’t go a year without a major trophy, we go 12 years trophyless and still feel proud of the so called good football, for what?

Chelsea started winning trophies during the Maurinho era, since then we stayed stagnant and just playing GOOD FOOTBALL, I won’t be surprised if they equal and surpass our EPL titles count coz they already did that in UCL (and we’ve been participating for 20 consecutive years)

      1. This is what ozil wrote.””I feel very, very happy at Arsenal and have let the club know I would be willing to extend. The fans want me to stay, and now it’s only down to the club,” Ozil told kicker. The club knows I am here mainly because of Arsene Wenger, who brought me here and whose trust I have. The club also knows that I want clarity about what the manager is doing.”
Ozil added that Wenger gives him the freedom on the pitch he requires to be at his best. ”
I think it is clear what he meant when he said he is very very happy at arsenal which means he loves the club and he also let us know wenger gives him freedom and trust on the pitch to be his best! who knows if krionke appoints moriniho to become our next manager? I mean crazier things have happened and players need to be cautious… Look how much of their prime playing years have players like mata, pedro, Oscar, Fellini, depay(delay), hart, toure, fabregas, etc have wasted because they didn’t consider new managers appointment and instability in a club? Surely this is not a question of loyality but trust and with all his failures ( which I am sure wenger is the most trustworthy out there.) and don’t get me wrong wenger should leave!

  4. We have to face one dry fact of course. If the manager him self is uncertain about his stay in the club, how could he negotiate and convince the players who are running out their contract and looking for a better payment and success?.This is the situation what is really happening at Arsenal at the moment. First of all Wenger should sort out his own contract situation as the players are following the condition seriously. Therefore, when consider this approach, it is difficult to blame both Ozil and Sanchez though the first loyalty should come to the club. Who ever came in or left out, life will continue in the club.

  5. There are still too many who consider Wenger to be the beginning and end of this club. How many managers have we seen come and go at other big clubs? Yet their best players stay on. I think the future of our current players all depends on the decisions of the board. Get a competent manager to replace Wenger, someone with accolades and we won’t see anyone jumping ship. The same methodology can be applied to players. Bring in top names, our current batch will stay.

I actually feel Wenger does not get the best out of our players and this is why we are not winning the league and competing at a high level. It’s not a case of our team lacking talent or capability. How can you keep playing Ramsey on the wing? How can you play Alexis on the left, when its so obvious he is better down the middle? He has done it for years where he plays certain players out of position and wastes them. Not to mention his weak mindset he instills. My biggest question and it has been raised, is why do we only haul ass when we are down?

Wenger needs to go and whatever the change might bring, so be it. The truth is we WILL NOT progress with him at the helm.
