I’m beginning to like this young man’s attitude. Mohamed has already told how he is aiming to win every trophy available with Arsenal, and now he has come out with fighting talk for those critics who dare to suggest he is not good enough for the Premier League.
Elneny told the Basel website: “It is a big move for me. A lot of people think I will not be able to replicate my performances for Basel at Arsenal, but I want to prove the entire world wrong,” .
“It is a huge step for me and a dream come true. I want to show the world that I am a good player.
“One of my first games with Arsenal will be against Barcelona. That will be a huge game and I hope I will be playing.”
The Egyptian international has extensive European experience from three years of winning the Swiss title and qualifying for the Champions League. He has faced Premier League teams too including two games against Chelsea in the Europa League semi-finals the year the Blues won the competition, and holding Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield, but it another European game that he remembers the most.
“My most significant game for Basel was the 2-1 away win over Fiorentina. The president told me it was the first time we won a game on Italian soil. I will always remember that game,” he said.
He has had three very successful years in Switzerland, and he hanked hs club before leaving: “I am both sad and happy with this transfer. It’s a sad moment because I am leaving Basel. I will miss everything here – the club, the players, the board and the fans. I owe Basel a lot.
“But I am happy because it a great step to a big club. It is a great career move to get the chance to play for Arsenal.
“I wish Basel all the best and will always be a Basel fan.”
All I can say is that if this lad plays as confidently as he he talks he will be an excellent addition to the team. We may not have heard of him before but this could be another Wenger gem that he has uncovered from nowhere….
