It was always going to happen, the longer Arsenal took to come to an agreement with Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha, the more chance that another club would come in and snatch the winger from under our noses.
The club probably thought they held the upper hand because Zaha wanted to sign for Arsenal and that may have been true to some extent but according to the Standard, Zaha is tempted to join Everton, who can afford his fee in one go.
The idea that Zaha would refuse to sign for any other club than Arsenal was always one for the birds, he was always going to be tempted by an ambitious club that could hand him a huge salary and that is now the case with the Toffees.
Palace is probably resigned to selling Zaha but only at the right price but never to a club that offered tens of millions under their valuation padded out with offers of fringe players in some sort of convoluted swap deal.
I would now suggest that the Toffees are the new front runners, the Ivory Coast international is tempted by Everton, Palace will sell at the right price and the Merseysiders have an owner that will finance the transfer.
I am not sure what Arsenal can do now to compete with that.

Is he better than all they options we have on the wings, yes he is and that is because they are no natural wingers. Westham and Newcastle are either dumb if they believe those two worth that much or are desperate for No 9. German clubs will not pay 20m for those players if the movement is other way round. Do you think Kos worth the 10m we ask for, or Elneny worth 20m. Hazard went to Real for 90m euro plus add on, €90m is £80m+ . Is Zaha that close to Hazard in talent and productivity
@Mobella… i’m not fan of stats when comes to player quality assesment, do mustafi better than vvd since has more tackles and interceptions? besides hazard,mane,salah,son and sterling (all of them are top 4 teams players) zaha is the best wide attacker in the league far more than hyped rashford,sane and dele ali,remember we’re taking about a player who is playing in the bus packing team, alongside benteke as main partner in far less creativity squad than we are, so he is most marked player in the team yet besides goals his stats in other attributes are comparing with hazard(dribling and foul won etc), with zaha 10+goals and 5 penalties won quarenteed…. regarding hazard price was low due to length of his remain contract,remember we sold RVP for £24m(top scorer) for the same reason

Many fans like comparing apples with oranges. Zaha is better than any winger in our team since invincible time. Walcott had a lightening speed but many time over ran the ball or with poor end products.

I just don’t understand why Emery is so hell bent on a new left back? When he clearly has bigger problems in other areas most notably centre back.
In Monreal we have one of the best defensive left backs when played in a back 4, the stats don’t lie and just recently he has found a goal or two easier to come by. In Kolasinac, we have one of the best attacking full backs, when playing as wing back in a back 3, whilst Monreal is also better than Mustafi in the back 3, which quite frankly is the only way Mustafi gets a start if everyone is fit, but he still shouldn’t.
My biggest concern is that are best centre back (holding) is still not fit. Our “2nd best” (Sokratis) is a liability. Mavropanos has injury problems as well as Emery not being entirely convinced. Chambers has been in 3 defensive roles for his last two loan clubs and both got relegated, Monreal is a better left back than a centre back. Bielik is seemingly on his way, Ballard has gone on loan as has Sheaf whilst Medley is so inexperienced, having never even experienced a loan spell.
Yet what centre back have we actually been chasing?

In my book, Zaha hasn’t graduated yet from Man Utd Flop Club (MU FC), he’s just doing good with his study. Don’t get me wrong, Zaha is quality yes, but world class & worth 80m no.
Flops can be good (Pogba, Pique, etc) but Zaha hasn’t proven anything yet and I’m afraid that CP is his ceiling, big fish in small pond they say. I’m afraid he will only revert to his level after making a move to Arsenal.
Completely agree with your post. Zaha is better than what we currently have, but that doesnt mean that we should overpay and compromise for a player that is in my honest opinion, just another good player. I cant believe one of the comments in this thread said that he is better than sane..

Ppl seems to confuse UE for Wenger by hoping he will try moarning about how we ‘tried to sign zaha’ but i reckon UE is more direct. During winter he told us not to expect marque signing, only loan deal, this summer he told us to be expectant.
