Ramsey to add goals Arsenal need to compete?

Arsenal fans have not been too vocal about how much the side was missing the Wales international midfield star for a lot of the current season, probably because we have not really seen the best from Aaron Ramsey for some time. He was excellent for his country at Euro 2016 and earned himself a place in the UEFA team of the tournament but that only made it more frustrating that his form was hard to find at club level.

Don’t get me wrong, though, I am a Ramsey fan and do realise that his game is about a lot more than goals, As a central midfielder he needs to do a bit of everything, with energy and work rate essential as well as the balance between defensive awareness and solidity with passing and creative football.

But I do think that when the Welshman is setting up and scoring goals you can tell that he is on his game and with Santi Cazorla on the long term injury list Arsenal need to have Ramsey at his best if we are to challenge for the Premier League title or to lift any trophy this season and I think the player himself is well aware that he needs to contribute more.

He did at least break his scoring duck for the season in the FA cup win over Preston and has spoken to Arsenal Player about his hopes that this will lead to more, as well as his take on the title race which he thinks will go all the way.

The 26-year old said, “It’s going to be tight. The top six teams at the moment aren’t dropping many points, so it’s going to be tight and we’ll have to stay focused to be ready for every game.

“It’s going to go right down to the wire and we don’t want to have any slip ups which might cost us in the end.

“It’s important for us to stay focused in every game.

“I’ve had a few chances in the last few games and I’ve missed a lot of football this season, so I was happy to finally get that goal. Hopefully now I can get a few more of them.

“I’ve been working hard to get back to full fitness and I’ve played the last couple of games, so hopefully now I can stay fit and have a good end to the season.”

If he does well from now until May, will it mean that Arsenal have a successful season as well?

  1. For arsenal’s sake I hope Ramsey does well for the rest of the season, but realistically I can’t see him being a long term starter in the cm spot for the arsenal first team

    1. And who exactly should start instead?

There were enough promising moments v Swansea that suggest Ramsey and Xhaka can form an effective partnership. We will know after the Chelsea game whether Ramsey has a long term future at Arsenal. No excuses, he will have had a consistent run of seven or so games. Every Arsenal fan should be rooting for him. If he does well, the team will do well. Santi has proven just how crucial this position is to our whole set up.

      1. LOL … Quality of footballers depends on how hard fans root for them … Seriously …. The point with ramsey is that the majority of fans have blindly done just that and he remains what he always has been a very very average footballer who has his moments of glory .. Time to sell him to the Chinese for an unseemly sum and bring in a quality attacking option that can support Sanchez and score goals regularly …

  2. I feel sorry for players one minute your the chosen one and the next your out the door one,

its not like you turn on the button on a conveyor belt and you play consistent all your carer, there are only a few players around the world that can play consistently and you can count them on your fingers on your two hands, lets not forget when Aaron was playing well there was interest from all the top clubs if he was consistent player he probably would of been sold to cash in on him by his agent and club

hopefully he remembers who stood by his side when he was struggling and when his doing better and sigh a contract without hesitating

    1. Arsen Wanger is encouraging everyone to score more goals but i don’t hear him saying he wants everyone to help with defense, i mean who is next Petr Cech to score more goals? Bellerin and Monreal is always almost on the corner line crossing ball’s, we are always leaving defense bankrupt and vulnerable for a take over, by the time Monreal and Bellerin return to their station they have just sprinted the whole of the pitch to make a defensive tackle sometimes coming in from behind the player in our box without giving a penalty or just outside for a free kick which we cannot defend set peaces, if we are to use them some midfield players have to drop back which is not happening at the moment

  3. For anyone thinking Ramsey’s going to start banging them in for us this season, just take a look at his poor finish against Swansea. One-on-one with the keeper, six yards out, and shoots straight at Fabianski.

Why can’t people just accept he’s not good enough to play for Arsenal. The evidence is overwhelming!

  4. Unfortunately, Ramsey had one great season but didn’t manage to build on that. Now he is a little bit of a liability if he is on the pitch because it means better players (Santi, Coq, or wide players) are not available. Having said that most players become a little better with regular football so maybe the same will go for Ramey.
