Should Arsenal challenge Man Utd for transfer of Chelsea’s Matic?

Central midfield, or the defensive side of it at least, has been a problem position for Arsenal for as long as some younger Gooners will remember. And for those of us lucky enough to0 have longer memories there is a feeling that the Gunners have still never found a good enough player to fill the considerable boots of the great Patrick Vieira.

Is it really a coincidence that Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since the combative Frenchman waved goodbye to north London after his last kick of the ball in an Arsenal shirt won us the 2005 FA cup in a penalty shootout against Man United?

To be fair to the current Arsenal squad, the likes of Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka have given Arsene Wenger better and more varied options than before in that position, but I would still say that none of the three have yet convinced me that they can help Arsenal to the EPL title.

One player who could do that, as he proved with Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in their 2014-15 campaign, is the Serbian international star Nemanja Matic. According to a report in The Times the current Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is willing to sell him and his former boss Mourinho is being linked with a move to take him to Old Trafford, but I think that Wenger should at least try to hijack this transfer and bring Matic to north London.

What do you think Gooners? Should Arsenal try to sign Matic? Would he be able to help us to finally mount a title winning campaign?

    1. I agree that Arsenal will not need him, because Arsenal will play with 3-4-2-1, which requires three central defenders and two central midfielders. There is no defensive midfielder in 3-4-2-1.

He is good if Arsenal play with 4-2-3-1, which requires a defensive midfielder to protect the two central defenders. Unless Arsenal can use him as a central defender in 3-4-2-1, which I think he would be very good in that position.

We already have many physical players like him, but we don’t have a real playmaker that can dictate the tempo. Rather than spending money on Matic, I prefer playmakers like Rafinha, Thiago, Sergi Roberto and Jean Seri.

  1. we rather take our very own cesc back if you ask me, it is good to forgive anyway, as for matic i don’t he will do any better job than Xhaka is doing atm.

  2. Dont think Matic will come, he is ManU bound for Mou in case he leaves Chelsea. On the other hand, Cesc will ask for game time and he does not have the legs for what he wants to achieve his WC dream. We are pretty stacked in that area too, so a NO for me.

  3. I think he will go to man United and there’s are better players than him though coquellin and el nely aren’t up to good standard i reckon Cecs fabrages is better
