Should Arsenal make a bid for wantaway West Ham star?

West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet has reportedly told West Ham manager Slaven Bilic that he wants out of the Hammers set up and a move to Arsenal could be on the cards!

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has today revealed to the press that he has a major transfer situation on his hands at West Ham and it’s one that involves last season’s player of the year contender, Dimitri Payet. Bilic stated: “I’ve got something for you. I have a situation with a player. It is Dimitri Payet. He wants to leave. We do not want to sell him. We have said hundreds of times that we do not want to sell our best players. We want to keep them.”

Payet has supposedly told his boss that he’s no longer happy in the east end of London, just 18 months after making a move to the Premier League from Ligue 1 side Marseille. Payet had an outstanding season with the Hammers last year and was named as a contender for POTY, just to show the impact he had made in the Premier League. However this season he hasn’t managed to hit the same heights and with West Ham struggling since the big move to the new stadium, Payet has supposedly told Bilic he doesn’t wish to play for the Hammers again and is demanding a transfer this January.

Payet has in the past spoken about his admiration for Arsenal and has never ruled out a transfer to North London. Wenger is also supposedly a keen fan of Payet’s and I’m sure Le Prof would be interested if West Ham were open to selling the player, even if it goes against their initial wishes.

Despite the crazy money that’s been thrown around in the transfer window nowadays, I don’t think West Ham could demand too much of a fee considering his age and that he wants out. So I’d say a bid of no more than £20 million would likely suffice from Arsenal, but would Bilic take the offer?

I also have several concerns about Payet to Arsenal, one of which is that Payet doesn’t exactly have age on his side. At 29 years old, of course he still has a number years ahead of him at the top flight, but we are looking at a player here that would be amongst the team regularly for probably 2-3 seasons more. Is he worth the investment?

Furthermore, there are concerns about his attitude. Wenger doesn’t like a player with a sulky and impatient attitude, although he has taken them on before, notably Gallas, RVP and currently Debuchy. He has the ability to change such an attitude, but if Payet isn’t willing to remain professional and play for his contracted club when the going gets tough, what’s not to say he’d throw a strop if things aren’t going the way he’d hoped for at Arsenal.

Lastly is his positioning in the team. If Alexis was remaining up top for the Gunners indefinitely, then I’d say there may be room on the wing for Payet. However with Giroud proving his worth, there’s every chance Alexis may be shunted back out to the wing sooner rather than later. With Iwobi, Walcott, Ox and Lucas also all waiting in the wings. Is there really any room for Payet, or any other winger for that reason?

Should Arsenal be looking to act on Payet’s unhappiness?

  1. Wenger will not sign a senior player this january to start with. Lets not keep our hopes up. I would love payet in our team so we can play payet-sanchez-Walcott as the front three. That would be a dangerous attacking trio. But I don’t see this happening. We all know wenger

  2. The question should be “with the unavailability of 2 key CMs and 3altogether and the poor form of Ramsey why have Arsenal not launched a bid for Payet yet?”

  3. This Bakayoko fellow looks pretty good. Tall, powerful and a nice turn of pace, he looks to read the play very well too. His tackling looks top notch, Vieira like at times, when he comes away with ball he usually leaves the player on the ground. No doubt he’ll be compared to Toure and Vieira. His passing looks alright but I don’t know if it’d be as good as those lads mentioned. Certainly better passing than Coquelin. He looks a right handful. This is going by youtube though, but what he did do right he made look easy, esp his ball winning. I doubt it’s true that we stole a march on Che and Manu by bidding for this player, or inquired. We’ve Xhaka and Coquelin, so I don’t see Arsene going for this type of player, unless he’s a better passer than I think he is. I hope Mourinho doesn’t get him, this dude and Pogba would look formidable. Chelsea have Kante, but at Juve he went with two b2b’s in front of Pirlo, so it won’t be that he’s competing with Kante if bought. Powerful looking player all the same.

      1. You’re not gonna like the answer, but it’s Metro. They say Arsenal and Liv make offer for Manu and Che target. I’ve read about utds interest before now.

  4. With Santi probably out for the season, Payet is a no-brainer! I know the CM position isn’t his best position, but Santi wasn’t a CM either, but has done very well in the role. Or just keep Payet on LW, with Sanchez upfront. He would suit our style of play perfectly.

  5. If you can’t buy him try to get him on loan with option to buy. That way he plays for us for 5 months then decides where he wants to go.

That would be great deals for the three parties.
For West Ham, they can then sell him for higher in the summer, if Arsenal don’t excersies to buy his services.
For Arsenal, if it turns out well, Arsenal have option to buy first.
For Payet, he can test himself at Arsenal and if Arsenal don’t buy him , he has the whole summer to decide.

No brainer, atleast get a loan deal.

    .
Us being Linked with every good and bad without reasonable end result

  7. A bid for Dimitri Payet, or at least an enquiry is a no-brainer. However it would only count as strengthening the squad if we can secure Alexis and Ozil on longer contracts.

    1. hahahaha……. But no seriously man-utd ain’t doing him well…. Perhaps he has developed the hunger being looked down over time
      .
      Still a risk tho!

  8. It would be nice if we could get payet, that would be a super addition to the arsenal sqad, it would send a message to the league and CL.

Everything is left to Westham to see if they going to want to keep a disgruntled player at the club for the rest of the season, by his comment earlier i do not think he would have a problem being an arsenal player
